"Shit, Matt's hit!" Alex shouted, his voice barely audible over the thunder and rain pouring down from the broken skylight above.
Liam's heart skipped a beat as he glanced over. Matt was on the ground, clutching his side, blood seeping through his fingers. The blow from the massive human subject had come out of nowhere, too fast for even Matt to react.
Liam steadied himself, gripping the pulse sword tighter as the monstrous figure lumbered toward them. He could feel the weight of exhaustion bearing down on his muscles, every inch of his body screaming for rest.
But there was no time for that—there never was. Not out here. Not in the middle of a nightmare that just kept getting worse.
"Keep your distance!"
Liam yelled over the storm, glancing back at Alex, who was frantically trying to stabilize Matt. "We can't afford another hit like that!"
