My head pounded as I stared at Damien, disbelief and anger coursing through me. I needed to get out of this place, away from him. Without responding, I shot up from my seat and grabbed the dagger next to me. My heart raced as I considered his words - if what he said was true, then I could use this weapon to kill Fae and possibly even Damien himself. All of my pent-up frustration exploded within me - being kidnapped, trapped in this hell for a year, and not being able to say goodbye to Will or even find out where he was buried. With lightning-fast reflexes, I lunged towards Damien, ready to strike with the dagger in my hand.
Damien's eyes widened in surprise as I charged towards him, the dagger glinting menacingly in my hand. He scrambled backward, trying to put distance between us. I saw the fear in his eyes and it fueled me even further. How could he have done this to me? Taken away my life, and my freedom, and forced me to live in servitude for a year.
I was so close now, the dagger poised to strike. But then I hesitated. Was this really what I wanted? To become a murderer like him? To give into the darkness that had been haunting me since I arrived here?
Suddenly Damien lunged forward, aiming to disarm me. His movements were quick and fluid, but I was ready for him. I dodged his attack and spun around, driving the blade deep into the wall behind him.
Breathless and shaken, we stood facing each other. Neither of us said a word. Finally, Damien broke the silence.
"Don't do this," he said quietly. "I know you're angry and hurt, but killing me won't solve anything."
"Then what will?" I asked bitterly, still holding onto the hilt of the dagger.
"I'll help you get your life back," he offered.
I scoffed at his words. How could he possibly make things right after what he had done to me?
My hand trembles as I grip the dagger, its sharp edge reflecting the dim candlelight in the room. Damien stands before me, smirking and confident in his black leather jacket. He knows he has the upper hand, but I have a surprise up my sleeve. As he approaches, I pull out another dagger from my belt, one that I had secretly picked up earlier. Without hesitation, I plunge it into his chest, right into his heart.
Damien's expression shifts from arrogance to shock as he looks down at the dagger protruding from his chest. His hands reach up to grasp the handle of the blade, but it's too late. Blood gushes from the wound and stains his shirt.
"I didn't expect another dagger, Sam," he gasps as blood spills from his lips. "Well done. You can be a killer."
I back away slowly, my mind reeling from what I had just done. The adrenaline in my body is on overload, and all I can think about is getting out of there.
Without saying a word to Damien, I grab a sword off the wall and bolt out of the room. His voice echoes after me as I run, promising revenge and threats of not being able to survive without him.
I curse under my breath as I sprint through the house. I may not have killed him, but I wounded him enough to buy myself some time to escape. And now it's a race against time before he catches up to me again.
As Damien's words echoed in my mind, I scanned the area for any signs of life. The only source of light was the full moon shining through the canopy of trees. As I walked, I noticed that the trees here were unlike any I had ever seen before. They towered above me, their gnarled branches reaching out as if to beckon me deeper into the woods. The air felt charged with an otherworldly energy, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was entering a realm beyond my understanding. This must be Silverest, the land between humans and the Fae.
I slow down my pace, not wanting to be caught off guard by any Fae creatures lurking in the shadows. The trees gradually become barer and barer in front of me. It feels like I have been walking for ages through this forest when suddenly my foot catches on a rock hidden by dead foliage beneath it. I fall onto my knees, clutching my bruised knee as pain shoots up my leg and into my thigh. Panting, I struggle to get back up.
I managed to walk again and the trees around me formed a thick canopy, making it hard for me to make out anything beyond my immediate surroundings. My only thought is to get away from Damien as soon as possible.
I know this place is dangerous, but what choice do I have? Damien seems far more dangerous to me, if what he said is all true. I would never be able to escape him without outside help. F*ck. There's no one here, I haven't even seen an animal or Fae creatures.
There's a good chance they will try to hurt me though if they pop out. Hopefully, I can get away soon before this whole area is crawling with monsters. That's the last thing I want.
What was that? I stop walking and pause, I hear singing, it sounds magical, beautiful, and hypnotic. I close my eyes letting the song wrap around me, I follow its tune and before I realize it, I'm in front of a big bonfire. I see a figure sitting on top of a huge rock, his eyes are closed and his voice sounds like an angel.
I couldn't move my feet, they were glued to the ground, and my mind was filled with his beautiful song. The man before me snaps open his eyes and smiles at me.
"Welcome human, I haven't caught prey like you in some time." He flashes a smile and a chill runs down my body. He isn't human and I can't move.
Damn.
