Chereads / THE FOOL / Chapter 15 - The Moon

Chapter 15 - The Moon

"Arcana, people who possess extraordinary abilities. Because of this, they believe they can easily manipulate the world with their hands," said Kevin, the mercenary, while exiting the police headquarters.

It seems he knows a lot about the people he calls Arcana, like Daniel. He appears serious and determined to track down and capture The Fool, the person behind the recent events in the news.

He lit a lighter while still outside the police headquarters, contemplating how useless the police would be in his quest to find The Fool, the person he desperately wanted to capture. He glanced around, a sinister smile forming on his lips as he felt challenged by the perfectly clean trail The Fool had left behind.

However, based on the CCTV recordings he had seen, there was a crow blocking the view, something that seemed familiar to him. He was certain that another Arcana had come back to life. and then a quick flashback of his previous life kicked in.

Five years ago, on a stormy night that seemed to mirror the turmoil in Kevin's soul, he found himself badly wounded and trapped in the relentless downpour of a torrential rainstorm. Blood mingled with rainwater as it streamed down his battered face, his body battered and broken from a confrontation gone wrong. Every step was agony, each breath a struggle against the creeping numbness that threatened to consume him.

The streets were deserted, the city obscured by sheets of rain and darkness. Kevin had never felt so alone and helpless. He had wandered into this storm, hoping to escape a past that haunted him, only to find himself on the brink of death. His mind was clouded with memories of the fight, the betrayal that had led him to this forsaken alley.

As he stumbled forward, his vision blurred and his knees buckled. Collapsing onto the wet pavement, he felt a strange calm wash over him. He closed his eyes, ready to surrender to the inevitable.

But then, amidst the howling wind and the drumming rain, he heard it—a voice, soft yet commanding, cutting through the chaos around him. It whispered promises of renewal, of a second chance at life. It offered him a choice: to embrace a new destiny, to become something more than human.

In that desperate moment, Kevin accepted the voice's offer without hesitation. He felt a surge of energy, a warmth spreading through his cold limbs. Opening his eyes, he saw before him a glowing tarot card, shimmering with mystical energy. It bore the image of himself on the brink of death with the name of the card indicating "The Moon"

With a surge of newfound strength, Kevin rose, his wounds knitting together miraculously. But instead of gratitude or humility, a cold determination gripped his heart. He saw this power not as a gift, but as a tool to bend the world to his will.

The Moon's default ability manifested as a mist step—a swift teleportation that allowed him to vanish from one spot and reappear within a kilometer, as long as he could see his destination. It was a power he immediately put to use, vanishing from the alley and reappearing atop a nearby rooftop, his mind racing with possibilities.

In the days that followed, Kevin tested the limits of his abilities. He used the mist step to his own personal benefits, to amass wealth and influence. His heart grew colder with each misuse of his powers, his ambition driving him to become the sole possessor of the Arcana's gifts.

He hunted down other Arcanas, believing that by eliminating them, he could strengthen his own power and ensure his dominance. He saw them as obstacles to be removed, threats to his singular vision of supremacy.

As Kevin delved deeper into the mysteries of the Arcanas, he discovered a very interesting arcana— "The Fool" figures who wielded their tarot cards with purpose.

As Kevin watched the evening news in his opulent penthouse, his eyes narrowed at the reports detailing the actions of The Fool. even on the social media it was all over. The figure, shrouded in mystery, had emerged as a vigilante of sorts, eliminating corrupt individuals with ruthless efficiency. Each act was a blow to Kevin's carefully constructed empire of influence and fear.

The news anchor spoke of whispers among criminal circles—of a shadow moving unseen, leaving behind a trail of justice that seemed almost supernatural. The descriptions were vague yet tantalizing, hinting at abilities that transcended the mundane.

Kevin's mind raced with calculations and strategies. If The Fool possessed powers comparable to his own Arcana abilities, it posed a threat unlike any other he had encountered. The prospect of another Arcana wielding such power ignited both fear and curiosity within him.

"What could The Fool's ability be?" Kevin muttered to himself, pacing the room. His research into the Arcanas had yielded fragments of information, but The Fool remained an enigma. Unlike his aggressive pursuit of other Arcanas, this time, Kevin felt compelled to understand before he acted.

"I will find The Fool," Kevin vowed silently to himself, fingers tracing the outline of The Moon tarot card in his pocket. "And when I do, I will ensure that I am the only one who wields the true power of the Arcanas."
