Sure enough, within ten minutes, an unexpected torrential rain arrived accompanied by a fierce wind, which immediately blurred the view ahead. The little bird was particularly eye-catching in the dark storm, flying ahead with Jason following in his car. When they were about to enter the storm zone, many vehicles had already stopped ahead, and some were starting to turn back.
A person in an orange raincoat waved at Jason in the distance.
Jason pulled over and stopped, and the man came over and rapped on his car window. Jason lowered the window, and the man leaned in to say, "It's too dangerous ahead. You need to stop and wait for the storm to pass before you can continue." After speaking, he left Jason's car and walked toward another approaching vehicle, waving his hand.
Indeed, it was impossible to drive ahead. This was not just a storm zone, but also a forming tornado. The tornado was rapidly taking shape and was sweeping toward them. Moreover, it wasn't just one, but three tornadoes were forming. They started small, then gradually grew larger.
"Get away from here, get out quickly!" someone shouted loudly.
It was the man in the raincoat who had stopped Jason. He shouted to the crowd, "Head to the village by the road, there's a storm shelter there, hurry--"
Not just him, several others joined in the shouting. Some people left the highway, while a car tried to drive away from the place, speeding back along the highway.
"What a lunatic!" someone shook his head at the retreating car, warning against racing with a tornado, a recipe for disaster.
Indeed.
The tornado was sweeping this way. Everyone had left the highway and headed to the storm shelter on a slope off the road. Cars parked on the roadside were swept up by the tornado, one after another, lifted into the high sky.
The power of nature was fully displayed at this moment. Regardless of your steel machines or fortress walls, everything crumbled easily before the tornado.
"My God, that guy's done for!" Despite everyone having taken refuge in the storm shelter, there was still a silent mourning for the person who had turned back in their car.
"Folks... well, we're powerless. May God bless them!" The man in the raincoat removed the hood from his head, revealing his face. His features were sharp, his chestnut hair damp from the rain stuck to his forehead. His face was unshaven, and his blue eyes were full of life.
Despite the calamity, his sturdy physique and temporary organizational abilities gave people a sense of security. He shook his head helplessly, turned to the people in the shelter, and said, "If anyone's phone still works, call an ambulance; someone got hurt earlier."
"The tornado is here--" his voice had barely fallen when someone screamed.
"Everyone-- grab the bar in front of you, hold tight--" The middle-aged man shouted, his hands also gripping the bar in front of him. This bar was specially installed in the shelter to prevent people from being swept away by the wind.
"My God--"
Someone screamed in terror.
The tornado swept over the top of the shelter. The violent shaking, the rumbling sounds, and the loud noise of something crashing down, gave birth to panic in everyone's hearts, spreading rapidly.
"It's heading toward the highway--" The middle-aged man held on to the bar tightly, staring outside. Through the crack of the door, he could sense the darkness outside interrupted by flashes of lightning. He could tell that the tornado was sweeping toward the highway.
The tornado swept past in just a few dozen seconds, but it felt like an eternity, filling everyone with an unbearable fear. After the tornado had passed and a while longer, the middle-aged man shouted, "Okay, we can come out now. Check yourselves for injuries. Everyone can return to the roadside to wait for rescue--"
The middle-aged man was the first to step out, heading towards the highway up the slope. The highway was in a state of chaos, with debris brought by the tornado scattered on the road. Two cows were even thrown to their deaths on the highway, and cars were toppled over, none of them usable anymore.
"Hey, have any of you seen an Asian man?" The middle-aged man arrived at the edge of the highway, staring at a wrecked car, he frowned and asked, "Hey, has anyone seen an Asian man?"
Someone shrugged at him and spread their hands to indicate they didn't know. The middle-aged man was certain he had stopped an Asian man, but now this man was nowhere to be found among the crowd.
The car that had gone mad, reversed and raced back. The middle-aged man shouted loudly, but couldn't stop the driver who was on the verge of collapse. All she wanted was to get away quickly. To leave this godforsaken place far behind.
As expected, the tornado was sweeping towards this highway. The cars parked on the road were lifted into the sky one after another, disappearing into the vast tornado.
"I have to get out of here, I have to get out of here!" The young and beautiful female driver kept muttering, experiencing her first tornado. Being able to turn the car around and run was already very composed of her. But the immense power of nature still gave her a massive shock.
"Boom--" Suddenly, a giant shadow fell in front of her. "Ahh!" The driver screamed as she hit the brakes, leaving a long trail of skid marks on the road. A car came crashing down from the sky, slamming onto the road right in front of her. She managed to stop the car just in time – one more meter, and she would have crashed into the fallen vehicle.
"Oh God!" The female driver exclaimed. She made a sharp turn, intending to bypass the obstructing car and continue her desperate run. But as she was about to turn, she glanced at the rear-view mirror and her face turned ashen.
The monstrous tornado was right at her heels. Her car started to shake violently. The deafening rumble was as terror-inducing as the collapse of a building during an earthquake.
"I've got to get out of this goddamn car," she cursed, trying frantically to unbuckle her seatbelt. But in her haste, she fumbled, her hands shaking uncontrollably like a leaf in a fall storm.
The car wobbled, light as a piece of paper fluttering in the wind.
"Ahh!"
The moment the female driver opened the car door, the vehicle was swept up. She attempted to retract into the car and close the door, but it was too late. The door was ripped away by the wind and disappeared into the storm. She felt dizzy as she and her car soared into the sky.
"Oh my God, somebody save me!" she cried out in fear.
The middle-aged man surveyed the devastation left by the tornado. Honestly, he had wanted to stop that reckless female driver, but she had been too stubborn.
Suddenly, a bird flew down from the sky and landed beside a car. It chirped a few times but didn't fly away. It didn't seem to fear humans; it didn't even react when people spoke near it.
The middle-aged man noticed something strange.
Despite the chaos, almost every car by the roadside was damaged, but these two broken cars were perfectly intact, they didn't even move an inch.
He looked carefully at the cars and the bird on the car's hood, puzzled.
The tornado had swept the female driver and her car into the sky. She was like a leaf adrift in a vast sea, at any moment she could be thrown out of the car, facing a likely fatal outcome.
"God, save me!" she shouted helplessly.
"Hey, girl, need some help?" Suddenly a clear voice echoed in her ear.
