Chereads / The Last Defense: Isaac's Odyssey / Chapter 2 - Dev Note: Null

Chapter 2 - Dev Note: Null

Logging off from the game, I immediately fired up my computer to get the information for the update. What awaited me was definitely a surprise.

Dev Note: Null

There is only 1 sentence recorded under the new live update. Tons of comments were already piling up under the notice.

"Da heck? Null?"

"Is this a joke?"

"You mean developers also dont know the update?"

As time went by with no further updates from the developers, the emotions of players were rising and starting to become toxic. I left the website since nothing of use can be found.

Lying on my bed looking at the ceiling, I thought to myself

"The update was triggered right after the EX status update to my class. Perhaps the release of a new class?'

Maybe new classes with the EX modifier will be released and more content will be accessible. Since there was nothing to do, I decided to go outside for a walk. Before I could even reach the stairs, a blue translucent panel showed up in front of my face.

"WHAT THE!!!"

I immediately jumped backward, my butt slamming into the side of my table.

"Initiating connection: Completed"

"Greeting, Earth - The Omniscient EX"

"What is this?"

"I am assistant unique to The Omniscient EX. Think of me as a butler without a body."

"It can talk?"

"I would prefer to be called ALPHA. Nice to meet you Earth."

Earth was my nickname in the game as almost all the famous name was taken during the launch and somehow "Earth" was not taken.

"How did you pop up here in reality?"

"ALPHA was given the permission to descend to this dimension by the Absolute."

Descend to this dimension? What dimension? Who is Absolute?! While these thoughts raced past my mind, ALPHA began blinking with new information shown on the panels.

"Dimension 231-B. Code for your current dimension of the parallel world syntax."

"Absolute. In human terms, God. They are a race of highly advanced civilizations that possess powers akin to what you humans describe as God. Absolute is the rank of the ruler of the civilization."

"Communication with ALPHA using mind has been fully established."

"Uhh, ALPHA. What now?"

"Current update in progress. Please prepare accordingly before the update completes."

New Quest!

Quest: Preparation is Key To Success

Dimension invasion is imminent. Place down the golden flag pole at the center of your desired base.

Quest Item : Golden Flag, Golden Flag Pole.

"Earth, it is recommended to complete the quest before the update starts. Before the chaos spreads, plant the flag and raise your base."

"What chaos?"

Right at the moment the question popped into my mind, I instinctively had the answer. I turned to look outside the window. The background noise was higher and the tension could be felt everywhere.

It was then, that the large clock in the sky moved into my view. It had the classic look of a clock, with all the Roman numerals, and the hour hand was pointed at XII. The minute hand was pointed at II, indicating it's 10 minute past 12.

However, I am sure that now is not 1210 pm. Last I saw the time on my computer it was 9 am.

"Earth, please increase your speed to complete your quest."

"ALPHA, do you know what that clock is? And what time is it pointing?"

"It is a timer for the new update. Only 49 minutes left until completion."

"What update?"

"Dimension invasion from other dimensions. Please hurry and use the golden flag pole. Once the base is established you will be safe from the initial blackout."

Too many questions rushed past my mind to the point I almost had a panic attack. I forced myself to calm down and rushed downstairs. Establish the base. Point of base nearby.

The park nearby should be the best point since it is near to the supermarket and has a fountain in it. Water, food, and supplies would be secure in case of an apocalypse. Do not ask how I can plan so properly. Just chalk it up to playing zombie games too much and delusions working together.

Once I reached the park, I could see a few mothers carrying their children and running back to their homes. Probably spooked out by the clock in the sky but this makes what I am about to do much easier. After all, the less people know I am the base owner, the better.

Especially in the starting phase. Previous experiences in the game made me understand the powers of major gaming clans and organizations. I have no idea if the skills in the game will translate to reality or not but if it does, then I would need to fight against them and the military.

As soon as the coast was clear, I stabbed the golden flag pole into the sand pit hard. The flag was automatically equipped onto the flag pole. On the flag, it was my base logo from in-game. The logo was designed from one of the lores in-game about the legendary warrior race, Angels.

The Angels were a bit different than ones in reality in that they are not bringer of apocalypse or to spread the faith of religion. They are just like human but with wings on their back. The wings represent their strength from level 1 with 1 pair of wings to level 4 with 4 pairs of wings.

Get the idea? Much like how classic Angels with more wings equal higher ranks, in-game, Angels equate the number of wings with strength. 4 pairs of wings are pretty much the ruler of the clan or their general.

I really loved the lore in that even the NPCs in my base consisted of 60% Angels. However, the highest class of Angels in my base was only the 6-winged Angel. And it was only 1 out of the majority of Angels in my base.

After the reckoning, most NPC clans or races fell into oblivion. Not even the strongest race was spared. The Angels that came to my base were in fact saved from my multiple adventures throughout TLD.

The Omniscient may limit my interaction with other players, but NPCs were the exception. The starting phase of my base relied a lot on their help and strength. In return for the shelter, Angels agreed to be my security and gatherer.

They are the best information gatherer due to the fact that they can manipulate light to become invisible and possess flight to reach unreachable places easily. Their strength in physical body paired with light magic also made them very formidable. Condensed sunlight in your face is easily a one-hit-KO magic.
