Days passed, and Maya kept searching and going to job interviews, but none could hire her because of her condition. She was sitting on her bed in her room when she heard a knock on her doorstep, Mia entered closing the door behind her.
"Hey, bestie!" she moves to join her on the bed. "how is it going?" she asked.
"Not too well, they keep saying the same thing". Maya replied with a sigh.
" I know and I understand, you can't give up now ".
" No, I won't, I will keep trying". She said smiling forcedly.
"I will keep looking for a job for you". she said and they embraced each other.
Jayden was at the clubhouse scanning around for Maya, because for a while now he hadn't been seeing her, then he called the manager to his VIP lounge.
" You sent for me sir?" he asked and Jayden turned his back against him as he was staring out of the window.
"Yes," he said and turned to him." I notice one of your staff has been absent for a while now".
"Um, my staff? which one?" he asked confusedly.
"Am talking about Maya, is she on leave?".
" Oh, no sir, she no longer works here". he said and Jayden was surprised.
"Why? Did you fire her? Who ask you to?" he quarrels at him angrily and the manager pushes back looking terrified.
"No, no, no sir, I didn't fire her, she quit on her own". he said and Jayden became calm.
" What? Why?". He asked confusedly.
Maya came out of her room due to someone ringing the doorbell.
"Am coming!". she moved to the door and opened it, she was surprised to see who it was." You! What are you doing here?" she asked unlikely
"Why did you resign from the clubhouse?" he asked curiously.
"Excuse me! Is that the answer to the question I just asked you? And by the way what business of yours is that if I quit my job?". she asked.
"I don't care am only concerned about where you can get another high-paying job ". he said smirking.
" That's none of your damn business if you don't mind, I will like to close my door ". she said and tried to lock the door, but Jayden stopped her and forced his way inside she stared surprisingly at him. " I didn't ask you to come in". she yelled.
"You don't tell me what to do". he said back to her and stared around the whole place, although it was a little apartment, it was well-furnished and designed beautifully. " Hm, not looking bad". he said.
"Get out". she orders and Jayden turns to her.
" And what if I don't?".
"Then I will call the cops on you for violation and harassment". She frowned at him and he scoffed.
" Ok, go ahead, I bet you to try". he said pushing toward her, and she pushed backward until her back rested on the door.
"What are you doing? Don't come anywhere closer or I will scream". She warned and Jayden scoffed.
" Then go ahead". He pulled closer to her and closed the gap between them, She tried to push him off but his hand encircled her waist and pulled her closer to his warmth, their face were inches apart.
"Let me go" " She gulps nervously trying to wriggle out of his arms, but his arms are tight on her, They stare deeply into each other eyes. Jayden couldn't believe what was going on with him, he tried pulling away from her but his whole body betrayed him and they could hear their heart beating fast. He turned his gaze to her lips and was coaxed to kiss her, he moved his lips closer and suddenly they got interrupted by an alarm and they pulled away from each other quickly, Jayden opened the door and rushed to his car to ease his tension. Maya on the other couldn't believe what was about to happen, she left for her room.
Along the driveway, Jayden couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier.
" How can this be possible? Why am I so drawn to her". she sighs tiredly. "listen, I want you to follow her around and report to me on every move she makes, do you understand me?". he said talking to his guard who was seated in the driver's seat.
" Yes, boss". he replied.
A few days later, Maya came out of the bathroom with her bathrobe on, her cell phone rang, and she picked it up after seeing the caller ID.
"Hey, bestie". she said, and Mia's voice came through the other end.
" Maya, are you home?" she asked.
"Yes, is there a problem?"
"No, I just sent you a link to your email, I saw a job posted online and I know you will like it ".
" Really? Hold on, let me see" " She sat down on the bed and opened her laptop, saw the link, and clicked on it." wow, they are looking for a sales rep. and a Secretary in the J.R. shopping mall". she said.
"Yes, the interview is tomorrow, you can go and apply, and I believe you will be hired," Mia said, and Maya sighed sadly.
"What if they don't hire me because of my condition?".
" Don't think like that, be positive, my instinct told me you will get this one ".
" Ok, I believe you Shehe smiled
"Good luck". they hung up.
" I can do this". she exhaled deeply.
The next day, Maya was already dressed up to leave, she was in a Tie-neck pink floral gown her hair was packed in a ponytail and she wore flat shoes along her cross-body bag. She came out of the apartment and locked the door before walking away, a car was following her behind and she seemed not to notice, she stopped a cab and entered, and soon she arrived at her destination. She came down after paying the cab man, she was amazed by the magnificent building.
Jayden was seated at his office when his cell phone rang, he picked it up.
"Yes". he said as he picked up." what? Why is she there?" there was a pause "Find out why she is there and get back to me". he hung up and was pondering on what his guard told him about Maya's presence at his mall.
Maya let out a deep sigh and walked inside, she saw two gorgeous receptionists in their beautiful white and black uniforms, and she walked up to them smiling.
" Good Morning" " She greeted cheerfully and they responded to her smiling.
"How can we help you miss? Are you here to buy something?" 1st receptionist asked and the other girl whispered to her and they giggled "Sorry about that, how can we help you?".
"Um, my name is Maya and I am here for a job interview". she said politely and they laughed at her, she wondered why they were laughing, and she became embarrassed.
" You, coming here for a job interview, does this place look like where they hire beggars". 2nd receptionist said rudely to her.
"Excuse me!".
" Excuse you, this place is not meant for people like you, if you don't mind, you can check the next building". 1st receptionist said and Maya stared angrily at them as they continued mocking mock of her.
Jayden got a call from his guard.
"Really? She is there for an interview?" he said and there was a pause. "Ok". He hung up and let out a sigh before dialing the manager's number, it rings once and he spoke." listen, there is a young girl in the reception area, she is here for an interview, take her in and get her interview, I am going to tell you on how to go about it, get this call connected on your Bluetooth headset". he said.
Maya was still trying to convince the girls to let her see the manager, but they kept ignoring her.
"Didn't you hear what we said, go away there is no vacancy here". 2nd receptionist said sassily
" I promise, it won't take a minute, I just want to see the manager ". she said pleading and they got pissed off, one of them move to her and try to push her out when suddenly the manager came over.
" What is going on here?". she asked and the girls quickly composed themselves. Maya stared at the elegant woman in her well-fitted suit and heels, she saw she was the manager as she noticed the tag on her dress.
"Am sorry ma, she is causing trouble, and we are trying to make her leave". 1st receptionist girl said.
" That's a lie, I only came here to apply for a job, but they won't let me ". Maya said defending herself.
" Ok, am sorry for their behavior, you can come with me to my office, and let's discuss it ". she said politely and Maya smiled at her, the girls were surprised as she left with the manager. Soon, they arrived at her office, and Maya was amazed by the exclusive design of the office and the wonderful interior. " please sit". she offered and Maya sat down.
"Thank you". she said. At this moment the Bluetooth was already connected and Jayden was listening to their conversation on the other end.
" So, how can we help you?" she asked firmly.
"Um, a friend of mine told me you guys are hiring".
" Yes, you are right --
"Don't ask her qualifications". Jayden said interrupting her on the other end of the Bluetooth and she alone can hear him.
" So, have you worked before?" she asked.
"Yes, I once worked as a waitress in a clubhouse". she replied.
" Ask her why she resigns". Jayden said.
Good, why did you leave? Were you fired?" she asked.
"No ma, I just quit on my own, because I broke one of the club rules". she said nervously.
" What rules? Did you steal something or what?".
"No, no, no, far from that, I am not a thief and I can't take what doesn't belong to me". she said.
" Convince her to tell you why she quit". Jayden said and the manager could see how nervous she looked.
"Is there something you are not telling me? Don't be scared you can tell me ". she reassured her.
" I-i " she sputtered and sighed. " I had to quit because I discovered I was pregnant and it's against the club rules," she said and the manager went surprised. Meanwhile, Jayden on the other hand froze in shock and he quickly recalled the night he claimed her.
Maya broke the silent mood and knelt quickly.
"Please ma, please I beg of you, give me this job and I promise I won't let my pregnancy affect my job, I have gone for a lot of interviews, and none of them agreed to give me the job because of my condition, I need this job to take off my baby, please ". she pleaded seriously as tears crawl down from her eyes and the manager felt sympathy for her.
" Stand Up, don't worry". she said and Maya sat back in her chair and cleaned up her tears with her thumb."how long are gone now?".
"A month ". she sniffed.
" Tell her to resume work tomorrow".Jayden said.
"Please ma, you are my only hope, I promise I will do my best ".
"It's ok, I understand how you feel, you can resume with us tomorrow," she said and Maya stared surprisingly at her.
"w-what, I can resume tomorrow? Does it mean I got the job?". she asked excitedly.
" Yes, you got yourself a job". she said smiling.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you so much".
" You are welcome ".
" Thank you".

"I will "" She left the office excitedly and the manager stared after her, she walked passed the receptionist and they were confused about her smiling face.
Jayden was still in shock in his office.
" Why didn't she tell me about the pregnancy? was she trying to keep it away from me?" he grunted angrily as different thought was going through his head.
