Chapter 6 - Chapter 006: Obtaining Ganwu

Yu Su walked outward, gaining insights into the true situation of Yu Village along the way.

This is a primitive village, very underdeveloped.

The houses are constructed with rammed earth walls and thatched roofs. Due to the rudimentary rammed earth technology, the walls are uneven and interspersed with roots. Like Yu Su's house, these houses don't have windows. The interiors are poorly lit, appearing dark from the outside.

Living conditions are simple, and clothing is even simpler. Men wear grass skirts or animal skin skirts around their waists, while women add a piece in front. No one wears shoes, and everyone walks barefoot. However, they all possess considerable strength; even the women can carry clay jars filled with water on their shoulders, walking briskly.

At the moment, most of the strong laborers in the village are out working in teams, leaving behind mostly women and children, with a few elderly. Medical technology during the primitive era was poor, coupled with a life of poverty, scarce resources, and numerous crises, resulting in a period with abundant spiritual energy but generally short lifespans.

"Hmph, useless Yu Su is out."

A few mischievous kids ran past, making faces at Yu Su and mocking him.

Yu Su: "..."

These little devils.

The original owner was physically weak, unable to participate in hunting, only able to engage in gathering. As a result, he faced ridicule. Being of his age and physically fit, going to join the gathering team, he was the only one.

In reality, the original owner's physical weakness was one aspect, and he was also too timid. Scared a few times by prey, he dared not go again. Additionally, he had to take care of his weak younger brother and foolish father at home, making him even more reluctant to take risks.

It turns out that being too precious about one's life sometimes doesn't guarantee its preservation. If the original owner dared to take risks, grit his teeth, and train himself, he might not have met his demise. However, talking about this now is pointless.

The village chief's house is easy to find because it has the largest thatched-roof structure and is the only house in the village with windows, spacious and bright, incomparable to other thatched-roof houses.

"Oh, it's Yu Su. Why are you here?" The village chief's wife, Hong Shanshi, saw Yu Su and was surprised. "Is your injury better?"

"Aunt, my arm is injured. I came to see the village chief." Yu Su said.

Hong Shanshi walked over. "Oh my, how did you hurt your hand again?"

Yu Su lowered his eyes slightly, sounding aggrieved. "It was Yu Xiong."

As soon as Hong Shanshi heard that, she immediately raised her eyebrows. "That rascal again. Yu Da doesn't know how to discipline his child. Always bullying others. When my husband comes back, I'll make sure he talks to Yu Da."

She looked at Yu Su's hand with concern. "But you should go find the shaman to take a look. My husband isn't at home."

When Hong Shanshi mentioned the shaman, Yu Su subconsciously felt a bit resistant. When he first woke up, the village chief brought the shaman to see him. He always felt that the shaman's appearance was a bit gloomy, and his gaze was strange, giving people a creepy feeling.

Yu Su didn't know how much genuine ability the shaman had in spiritual matters or what he could discern. At least at this moment, he didn't want too much contact with the old guy. That's why he came to the village chief instead of the shaman.

"Aunt, you just need to help me fix my arm."

Yu Su told Hong Shanshi how to secure his arm. She was adept with her hands and quickly prepared a splint for him, using a wooden board and hemp rope, suspending his arm around his neck with another rope.

"Can this really work?" Hong Shanshi looked at it strangely.

Yu Su nodded. "It'll work."

He had touched it himself, and there shouldn't be a problem as long as it's fixed properly, and he avoids moving it recklessly. With some time, it would heal.

Still, Hong Shanshi was worried and advised him to find time to ask the shaman for a checkup.

Yu Su vaguely agreed, but his gaze immediately stopped when he saw a pile of miscellaneous weeds in the corner, among which seemed to be the rhizomes of Ganwu?

"Aunt, why are those grasses placed there?"

"They're miscellaneous weeds and poisonous roots brought back during gathering. I'll throw them away later."

Poisonous roots? Does that refer to the rhizomes of Ganwu? It seems that people at this time consider Ganwu purely as a poisonous plant.

Suppressing the joy in his heart, Yu Su said to Hong Shanshi, "Let me take them out for you."

Hong Shanshi didn't care much. Since they were to be thrown away, she was fine with Yu Su taking them away. She just reminded him to be careful with his hand.

Yu Su, using his uninjured hand, carried the broken bamboo basket back. Upon closer inspection, he confirmed that the rhizomes inside were indeed Ganwu, and there was a considerable amount. Mixing it with Zi Yun to brew a medicinal soup, he would soon recover from his injuries.

Unexpectedly, this trip yielded Ganwu, a pleasant surprise.

When he reached the entrance of You Yushi's house, he heard intense arguing.

Yu Su stopped and looked inside, witnessing You Yushi shielding two children, holding a bone spike warily against a tall man.

"Get out of my house!" You Yushi shouted loudly.

"Your man has been dead for how many years? Why are you still guarding this house alone? Follow me, and I'll make sure you have meat to eat every day without the hassle of gathering." The man facing the door said.

"I don't want it, get lost!" You Yushi cursed.

"Spit, stubborn woman. What are you being stubborn for? Do you think a bone spike can deal with me? Today, I must take you away!" The man also revealed his true nature, viciously trying to drag You Yushi.

"You bastard, let me go, or I'll stab you to death!"

You Yushi resisted with the bone spike, and the two children ran out to shove and push the man. However, the man was strong, and You Yushi and the two children were no match for him. In the struggle, the bone spike stabbed the man's arm. He cursed fiercely, snatched the bone spike from You Yushi, and tried to drag her out.

Yu Su put down the broken bamboo basket and walked quickly towards them.

You Yushi saw someone coming and a glimmer of hope lit up in her eyes. However, when she clearly saw that it was Yu Su, the radiance quickly dimmed. Yu Su was no match for this brute.

The man dragging You Yushi also saw Yu Su, but he didn't care about Yu Su at all, contemptuously saying, "Isn't this Yu Su, who looks like a woman? What do you want, to taste my fist?"

"Screw your uncle!" Yu Su walked up and delivered a swift kick.

Seeing Yu Su kicking over, the man didn't take it seriously at all, thinking that Yu Su was underestimating himself, courting death.

Little did he know a tremendous force hit him, sending his entire body flying, crashing through You Yushi's house's fence.

The man was dumbfounded.

Taking advantage of his confusion, Yu Su went up and landed a few more kicks. He even broke the man's hand.

An adult man is not someone Yu Su could compare to like he did with Yu Xiong, who was just a teenager. If he didn't incapacitate him while the man was still confused, it would be Yu Su who suffered.

"Ah!" The man screamed in pain, sweating profusely.

Yu Su stepped on the man's chest, looking at him coldly. "If I step down now, you're dead."

The man screamed in horror, staring at Yu Su as if seeing him for the first time, unable to believe that Yu Su actually had such great strength. Looking at Yu Su's foot, he shivered.

"Get lost, don't show up here again. Otherwise, I'll kill you." Yu Su said.

"I won't come again, I definitely won't come again!" The man said in terror, got up, holding his broken hand, and ran away, drenched in cold sweat.

"Yu Su!" After the man had gone far enough, You Yushi finally called Yu Su. She looked at Yu Su with astonishment, somewhat incredulous, and very delighted. "Thank you for saving me. You had such great strength just now!"
