Chapter 67 - Noble Faction Plot

Duchy of Athea.

Duke Graham gathers nobles in the eastern realm of the Verdant Glades Kingdom who are unhappy with King Richard II's decision to rally their privet army for battle to reclaim the Barony of Ember Ridge.

Feeling that this decision not only strained the resources of the nobility but also risked the stability of their land, Duke Graham decided to gather like-minded nobles in the eastern realm of the Verdant Glades Kingdom.

In a secluded hall within the Duchy of Athea, Duke Graham convened a meeting with the disgruntled nobles. The atmosphere was tense as murmurs of discontent circulated among the assembled nobility. The duke, known for his strategic thinking and political acumen, addressed the gathering.

"Nobles of Verdant Glades and honored guests, we are faced with a decision that will determine the fate of our lands. King Richard II's call to retake Ember Ridge has unsettled many of us. The burden of gathering our private armies not only puts our resources at risk, but also threatens the stability we have worked so hard to maintain in our land."

A murmur of agreement echoed through the hall as the nobles expressed their shared concerns.

Duke Graham continued, "I propose that we revolt and join the Pinnacle Republic."

The noble was surprised that duke graham trying to convince them to join the Pinnacle Republic.

Count Andrea frowned and asked Duke Graham's decision. "Duke Graham, you know what you're talking about, don't you? joining the Pinnacle Republic will mean we lose our right as nobles and our land too."

Duke Graham met Count Andrea's gaze with a steely determination. "Count Andrea, I understand my proposal was a bit shocking to you and the others. But I assure you, it is the best option we have."

"Joining the Pinnacle Republic will not mean we lose our rights or our lands. On the contrary, it will mean we gain more freedom and prosperity. The Pinnacle Republic is a federation of independent states that share a vision of unity and progress."

"They have a democratic system of governance that respects the autonomy and diversity of each state. They also have a strong economy and a powerful military that can protect us from any external threats."

"By joining them, we will not only secure our future, but also send a clear message to King Richard II that we will not tolerate his tyranny and incompetence any longer."

"If you are really afraid that our right as noble will revoke by them, you don't need to worry about it, after we join the Pinnacle Republic, our noble family will turn into merchant family and we still retain our land and its people, it's just the government little bit different with feudalism."

"Just think, once we join the Pinnacle Republic, we will have technology that they had and much more superior than ours, from military, medicine, education and their new industry that is able to make 100,000 iron swords just a day."

"We will have access to trade with other states and benefit from their expertise and resources. We will be able to improve the lives of our people and ourselves. We will be part of a new era of enlightenment and innovation."

Duke Graham paused and looked around the hall, hoping to see some signs of agreement or curiosity among the nobles.

"But why we should believe you?" A voice from the back of the hall challenged Duke Graham. It was Count Vargus, a loyalist of King Richard II and a rival of Duke Graham. He had a smug expression on his face as he stood up and faced the duke.

"You are asking us to betray our king and our oath, to join a republic that we know nothing about, to give up our noble status and our traditions, to embrace a foreign culture and technology that we do not understand."

"You are asking us to risk our lives and our lands for a vague promise of a better future. How can we trust you, Duke Graham? How do we know you are not lying to us, or worse, working for the enemy?"

The hall erupted in a commotion as some nobles agreed with Count Vargus, while others defended Duke Graham. The duke raised his hand to silence the crowd and replied calmly.

"Baron Lionel, I thank you for your question. It is natural to have doubts and fears when facing such a momentous decision. But I assure you, I am not lying to you, nor am I working for the enemy."

"I am working for the best interest of our land and our people. I have proof of what I say. I have been in contact with the Pinnacle Republic for some time, and they have agreed to accept us as allies and partners. They have also sent me a letter of invitation, signed by Doge Lucas Mitchell."

They have also sent me a gift, a token of their goodwill and friendship. A gift that will demonstrate the wonders of their technology and the benefits of joining them."

Duke Graham gestured to one of his servants, who brought a large wooden crate to the front of the hall. The duke opened the crate and revealed its contents. It was a metal device, shaped like a cylinder, with buttons attached to it. It looked like nothing the nobles had ever seen before.

"This, my fellow nobles, is a magic radio. It is a device that can transmit and receive sound over long distances, it can be used to communicate with anyone who has a similar device, regardless of where they are. It can also be used to listen to music, news, and other broadcasts from the Pinnacle Republic and other states."

"It is a marvel of science and magic, and it is only one of the many inventions that the Pinnacle Republic has to offer. With this radio, we can stay in touch with our allies, learn from their culture, and enjoy their entertainment."

"We can also use it to coordinate our revolt and our escape from King Richard II's clutches. This radio is a symbol of the Pinnacle Republic's generosity and friendship, and a proof of their sincerity and trustworthiness."

Duke Graham turned on the radio and tuned it to a frequency. A voice came out of the device, speaking in a language that the nobles did not recognize. It sounded like a cheerful and friendly greeting, followed by a catchy tune.

The nobles gasped in awe and curiosity as they heard the radio for the first time. Some of them moved closer to the device, while others remained skeptical and suspicious.

Duke Graham smiled and said, "This is the voice of the Pinnacle Republic, welcoming us to their federation. This is the voice of our future, inviting us to join them. This is the voice of freedom, calling us to rebel. Nobles of Verdant Glades, I ask you again, will you join me and the Pinnacle Republic?"
