"Wake up already Slade! I am getting tired of yelling!!" Her voice rumbled the room and shook the books that were scattered on the table.
"I'm up, I'm up!" shouted Slade in response, a certain eagerness could be felt in his voice as today was the day he had been waiting all his life for. After working countless hours at the nasty old farm his uncle runs he was finally able to pay for a magical assessment.Â
In the world of Teliria the most fabled, and richest people are magic wielders, though nearly everyone is able to use magic. A vast majority of people are only able to use it for very elementary purposes, such as lighting a candle, or creating a small gust of wind to put one out and other menial tasks.Â
Ruby, Slade's caretaker and additionally his older sister thought it a waste of money as only a small number of people are actually assigned magical professions. But this money was all Slade's and she had no say in how he spent it.Â
After getting ready Slade walked downstairs to eat the breakfast his sister Ruby had so generously prepared for him. "There you are finally, you take longer to get ready than I do!" Ruby complained. Grey rolled his eyes at her in response, they both laughed. "Well I've got to get on to school now Slade, eat up and good luck on your assessment now!" said Ruby as she rushed out the door.
Ruby waved goodbye to him just before she left. Ruby is a girl in her early twenties, she has fair pale skin and dazzling green eyes. An oval shaped face and lustrous red hair that flowed just past her lower back. (She is a very beautiful woman in short :)..)Â
Slade however... was much less elegant, he had shoulder length blue hair and muddy brown eyes, his skin looks like it has not been washed in weeks, and he looks like he might be dying, as he spends all of his time studying the arcane rather than eating and what not.
After finishing eating Slade stepped out of their worn-down house, if it could even be called a house. He walked his way through the slums in which he lived to the upper part of town where the "Magicians Hub" was located.Â
As he walked the road he saw various interesting people, a person with shoulder length blonde hair, and the prettiest blue eyes he had ever seen caught his attention, though Slade was unsure whether or not this person was a boy or a girl... Another person, this time a man who looked like he was well into his twenties, with wavy black hair and fiery red eyes, he carried a rapier by his side and looked like an adventurer who had seen it all.
As Slade continued down the main road and saw plenty of other interesting people, he finally reached it. The Magicians Hub, he had been dreaming of coming here to get assessed since he but a little boy. Years of hard work spent at his uncles farm, saving up came down this.Â
He opened the marble doors, and walked into the main room. It was breath taking, he had never seem anything so glamorous. There was so many artifacts, and potions, and magical weapons inside. So many fascinating objects. He was in awe, as so many things he had only ever seen in the books he read were now right in front of him.Â
Located in the middle of the main room was an octagonal desk, where a young girl was situated. She seemed to be no older than Slade, and it seemed she was falling asleep on the job?! Slade walked up to the girl, "Uhm hello?" he said but got no response she was still fast asleep. Using his amazingly foolish intuition he thought the best course of action would be to create a gust of wind to wake her up. Fwoosh, and a powerful gust of wind moved her backward and caused her to finally wake up.
It seemed this girl a trained professional, she propped right up and asked "Yes, what I can do for you today Sir?" acting as if she had been awake the entire time. Slade made a confused glare at her but went on and asked for a magical assessment. "A magical assessment eh?" she said with a surprised look on her face. "Its your money I guess, go up stairs and look for the man with the weird hat!" she said grinning.Â
Slade went ahead, still very confused about that strange encounter he just had... The stairs were located in the very back of the main room and were assorted in a spiral. He walked up the stairs and made it to the upper floor.Â
This floor had a section of magical beasts to the far right, and a section of magical contraptions to the far left, and straight forward at the end of the room was a man wearing a... neon yellow top hat...Â
"Great another weird person.." Slade whispered to himself. He made his way through the room, quickly glancing at the strange magical beasts to his right. There was a particularly strange critter that caught his eye as he walked toward the man, a goat with the body of a man, but the size of a house cat.Â
Slade approached the strange man behind a desk. "Well hello! Here for some obscure contraptions made by yours truly?! Wait no, let me guess you are here for beast breeding!" he exclaimed loud enough for everyone in the entire building to hear.Â
Embarrassed by the man Slade responded with "No uhm, just a magical assessment for me!" The man then jumped forward and looked Slade deeply into his eyes. "Hmm, if you say so. Just follow me." he stated. Slade followed him as the man left his desk and went toward the left side of the room where the magical contraptions are located.
As they made their way, many strange oddities caught Slade's eye once again. A glowing ball that looked like it was about to explode and cause the entire building to blow up, a flaming fork which Slade had no clue whatsoever that would be used for, and finally an abnormally large book which started to read itself.Â
"Ah here we are." said the man. "Now just wait for my instruction to place your hand on the machine and the assessment will start." he added. Slade was starting to get a bit nervous as this was finally the moment of truth, he would find out if he really had any affinity for magic or not.
The man fiddled with some settings of the machination then said "Okay just place your hand right in the middle of the square." As he fiddled with the settings a square in the middle of the surface started glowing.Â
Slade placed his hand in the square. "Perfect, now we just wait a minute or two then we will have your so desired results!" the man said. Slade nodded in return, the minute seemed like an eternity to him as every second he was filled with nervousness. The machine made a loud ding and the square was no longer lit up. Slade removed his hand from the surface.
"Just one moment and the machine will spit out your status page." said the man. A status page tells a person a variety of information about their magic. Such as their archetype, there are six archetypes people fall under. The first is commoner, and also the most common one that about ninety-five percent of people fall into. The commoner archetype is always given a Magic Grade of F, and never given a magical profession.
These peoples magic will never advance past a toddler stage, only able to do very menial tasks with it. Hence why most people consider Magical Assessments a waste of money. Continuing with Archetypes, the remaining five are Utility, Healer, Caster, Fighter, and Tank. Each Archetype, excluding commoner, has around 15 different magical professions. (Similar to a Class and Subclass system in an MMO)Â
The last piece of information on a status page is Magic Grade, magic grade is simply just a measurement of overall power, and strength of a magic user. It is a combination of spellcasting ability, physical strength, mana pool, and various other factors. Additionally over time and with training one can raise their magic grade, excluding grade F's they will never exceed Grade F.Â
"Here you are. Try not to lose it." said the strange man as he handed Slade his status page. (For background reference, status pages are magical pages that display one's magic information, and for example if someone is a rank D and trains and reaches rank C, the status page will update that information, the original one they printed out at rank D so you do not need to have another one done again.) "I will be back at the desk you first found me, come there once you are done looking at your status and we will handle payment." he said, then started walking back that way.
Slade looked down to the paper. Name: Slade Sididrik, Archetype: Fighter, Profession: Swordsinger, Magic Grade: D
