"2 life lose in 6 days." Megure said with a sad voice. "And we still couldn't find the murderer."
"Uncle." Conan talked to old police on island. "Do you know about Asou Keiji ? "
"Yes. I know. He was the famous pianist." old police replied.
"And did Asou-san light his house on fire?" Conan continued asking.
"Yes. According to what witnesses said."
"Do you remember who they are?" Hattori asked.
"Ah. Let's see." old police adjusted his glasses. "The previous mayor Kameyama-san, Yawashima-san, Mayor Kuroiwa and Nishimoto-san …"
"They are all dead except for Nishimoto-san" Conan exclaimed.
"Oh. You are right. What's a coincidence?" old police laughed it off.
"So do you have any clues about their relationship" Mouri asked since he found something.
"Their relationship. It should be stopped at friend."
"Without doubt, the next person who will be killed is Nishimoto-san." Mouri looked at the said person. His face turned pale and turned back running for his life.
"Wait. Catch him." Megure ordered his subordinates.
2 polices chased after Nishimoto.
Thank to Mouri's word that they went a half-way in solving mystery.
"So do you remember how the previous mayor died." Conan asked old police for more clues.
"Ah. He was dead because of heart attack."
"Heart attack" Hattori repeated old police's word.
"That's right. And he died while sitting on piano seat." old police pointed at the seat of piano.
"Not like his heart was crushed or something like that."
"No no no. His heart wasn't crushed. He just had disease relating to heart. His face at that time. I remember it." Old police coughed to clear his throat before continued. "The expression on his face was afraid of something. And that thing is terrifying him too much that led to heart attack."
"Is that so. We will have to interrogate Nishimoto and protect him from murderer." Megure said.
"Mind I joining that." Hakuba standing at the door said.
"That's very dangerous. I suggest you should go to mainland." Megure said with worried voice.
He has seen many people that were murderer. The case on this island was special one. Undoubtedly, the murderer in this case was judged as the most dangerous criminal in Megure's mind.
"I don't mind that danger. If I want to know the truth, I have to participate." Hakuba said with a smile on his face as if he figured out something.
"Ok." Knowing the stubbornness of detective, he could only say yes.
Conan took down to his note book.
"This time, I will catch you." Conan mumbled.
"Excuse me, Narumi-san. I have something want to ask." Hattori gave Narumi a photo of white mask skull.
"Do you happen to know this mask?"
"That's mask. I know." she replied.
"And what's that."
"Halloween mask. Aren't this popular everywhere?"
Hattori fell to the ground after hearing the answer.
"I mean do you know any story, fairy tale relating to the white mask skull."
"That's a little bit of troublesome since white mask skull is very popular." Narumi touched her head with her hand. "However, I think a story that was told by my father may be related to it somehow."
"And that story is."
"It tells me about the assassination organization originating in the Middle East. The old man of mountain or you can understand his name as Hassan-i-Sabbah. The story is very complicated so I forget some details" Narumi answered.
"Can you tell me what you still remember?"
"Okay. Just a remind. Some details may be forgotten by me and replaced it with my thought." Narumi wanted to refuse but seeing an enthusiasm in boy's eye. She couldn't help but accepting it.
3 days later.
The last victim, Nishimoto was protected heavily by 2 layer of police. One layer was outside and one was standing beside him as a human shield.
After admitting his past deed, Nishimoto was escorted back to mainland for protection and testimony.
However, their boat met some problems at harbour. Not only their boat, everyone's boat also met the same problems.
Boat repairman said the fastest speed in fixing was 2 days.
Without any choice, they had to protect him on this island.
"Report. Any suspect outside."
"No sir."
"Copy that." Megure turned off his radio.
To make it easier, he said to the citizen on the island that they was prohibited on going near Town hall for 2 days.
It wasn't easy to subdue angry mob.
"So the night have come. If we don't meet any problem then tomorrow, Nishimoto can be escorted back to mainland. Just today. Stay vigilant." Megure gave some remind then walked around to check every corner.
"Why you kids are here" Mouri said.
"Ah. Conan insisted on staying here" Ran answered.
"It's fine. Uncle. His target is Nishimoto. He won't hurt anyone else" Conan added.
"You brat. That guy is a murderer. How do you know he won't do anything to you." Mouri picked Conan up and put him outside of the room.
"Go and sleep." he slammed the door leaving Conan and Ran outside.
Nishimoto was sitting on the chair while being very stressful.
He looked outside and hoped no one come tonight.
Suddenly, he saw a white mask skull in the forest waving at him.
He thought he saw a delusion so he rubbed his eyes.
After rubbing, he saw no one there anymore.
He hugged the nearest police and screamed
"Please. I admit my guilt. Please. Let me leave." he wanted to leave since he felt this place wasn't safe anymore.
Suddenly, the light flickered strangely.
"Ahh" Nishimoto shivered in fear.
"Check the power supply" Megure ordered his subordinate.
"Yes, sir." One police left the room to check.
The light turned off. Shadows covered everywhere. No one could see a thing.
"Ahhh" Nishimoto screamed through the room like a scared kitten.
Everyone opened their own phone to bring light in this dark room.
"Everyone is okay." Megure said. "Where is Nishimoto by the way?"
Nishimoto crawled on the floor wanting to leave the room.
Suddenly, he found something on the floor. He touched it and tried to think what was that.
"A lighter"
A fire was ignited. Now he could see a path.
The door was opened suddenly. Ran screamed as soon as she opened the door.
"Run." Conan saw a white mask skull right behind Nishimoto. Not only Conan could see it, Hakuba and everyone in the room could see it.
A cracking sound reverberated through the room. Nishimoto's body fell to the ground.
Without hesitation, I broke his neck and stopped his body falling with one arm only.
"Freeze." Megure drew his gun.
"Are you enjoying this journey? Little Sherlock Holmes." I laughed out loud.
Some police was so nervous that they shot without order.
I blocked that bullet and jumped through the window.
The sound of breaking glass attracting police outside.
Many flashlight illuminated the area around the place where glass was shattered.
But.
They didn't find anyone there.
"Look at there." Someone pointed at the top of building.
Nishimoto was stabbed with a pole and his corpse was hanging on the top of building.
His blood stained the color of flag and pole.
Everyone saw this couldn't believe. How can murderer bring an adult's body to that place in short time? And murderer. They couldn't find him.
"Search any suspect. He must be around here."
The town hall became lively even without the light of modern.
Next morning.
"With my regret, we have failed in catching the crime." Megure put his hat on his chest.
Nishimoto's corpse was placed in the basement of hospital.
"I will continue investigating. You guys go to mainland first."
"Tsk." Conan slammed his fist on the door. "Another crime escapes under my eyes"
"What's wrong? Kiddo. You feel angry towards murderer." Hattori said.
Not only Conan felt useless, even Hattori felt the same.
At that time, he was outside of the building. He did see murderer jumping through the window. But when he blinked the eyes, Nishimoto was already on the top of building and murderer was no where to be found.
This was too unscientific so he didn't tell this to anyone.
"That guy also feels the same." Hattori mentioned Hakuba who was absent at the moment.
They all wanted to stay this place for investigation but they had to go back to mainland.
Before Hakuba left somewhere that no one knew, he left a message.
Megure read that message and arrested Kazuaki Hirata for illegal transaction.
On the boat to mainland.
"It was really scary, Conan. I don't know on this small island exists someone terrible like him" Ran said to Conan.
"Yes. He is very scary." Conan looked at the island one more time. He found a figure wearing white mask skull waving his hand at him. He felt provoked.
"Do you see anything there?" Mouri said and looked at the direction where Conan was looking at.
The figure wearing white mask skull was no longer there.
Conan left the island with many regrets.
Meanwhile, in the forest.
"Father. They have all died." Narumi Asai looked at the building where held precious memory.
"The deal has been done. Now, it's your turn to fulfill it." A guy wearing white mask skull appeared behind the tree.
"I know. I have lost the bet." Narumi cut her long hair.
"From now on. I will live as a new leaf." Narumi's true identity was Asou Keiji's son.
"I will go to mainland and start new career" Asou Seiji, or Asou Keiji's son, left his homeland to rebuild a new life.
Looking at his leave, I felt quite pity for his life.
He was born at a happy family. Just because of selfishness of someone, his entire family was murdered. His father, his mother and his younger sister. All gone.
After 5 minutes, a hawk was flying on the sky.
"I know you are there. Coming out" I said.
Hakuba appeared from the bush.
"So you are the legendary killer in story." Hakuba said without any fear.
"Indeed. Why are you here?"
"Just to catch you."
"Hmm. I'm looking forwards on your success." I replied.
They both stared at each other. Suddenly.
A layer of leaf was blown by the wind.
It blocked the eye's sight between Hakuba and Hassan of the Cursed Arm.
And then, Hassan of the Cursed Arm disappeared from Hakuba eye's sight.
Even the hawk on the sky couldn't detect anything.
"I guess it's my defeat" Hakuba's corner of mouth raised a little bit. "From now on, I will see you as my arch-enemy."
Post-scene
At Shinichi's house.
"Come on. Vodka. We almost escape this time."
"I'm sorry, boss. I'm too thirsty and hungry."
"If you say that one more, I will abandon you" Gin said with a threatening voice. Being abandoned hungry for more than 1 week. He still had energy to talk.
Gin opened the door and saw big guy clad in black.
"One month will be a Christmas. I'm going to let you guys have some rest before that day. Even criminal need to be treated as human." I said while looking at their failed escape.
"Anyway. Merry Christmas" I delivered knuckle-pie into their mouth.
