Following the conclusion of the event, the new students were dismissed to their dorms. When I tried to meet my adoptive mother before coming out of the auditorium, she was nowhere to be found. Guess, she was busy, and she certainly was cunning to just let me give a speech unprepared.
I came out and walked among the students with Gray, who was accompanying me. After going inside the registration place to the way of the dorms, "Alright Boss! I'm going to find my room now. See ya later!" He said as he left after I said, "Yeah. See you!" by waving my hands.
"Guess we are now alone, Ku. Let's go and find our room now!" I said to Ku as he purred and gazed at the birds flying around.
I took a sigh, "Well then... Shall we get going, buddy?" I asked Ku, looking at his high spirits.
"Okyuu!" Ku said, and I laughed, hearing his adorable voice in my telepathy, and started to head toward my allotted dorm as well.
I arrived at the first story of the school building located in the center of the academy to report. I knocked on the door.
"Please come in." A deep voice resounded.
"Hello, Sir. I'm here to check in.
"Oh, come in. You're this year's freshman representative, Ryan Dainsleif, right? In the future, make sure to put in great effort and win honor for the academy."
Entering the registration department, I clearly saw that he's actually a wind element mage, should be around yellow-dark stage, and he was approximately fifty years old.
"Now listen here, young man, the entire academy has a bright eye on you. You should be a great mage before graduating. You must work hard. Work hard and break the records. The madam was talking so proud of you yesterday!"
I didn't expect my adoptive mother would be doing that. Well, seems like there is more to her cunning attitude. And now I understand why my father was quite wary of her. And getting to the top is what I'm planning to do actually.
"I will, sir! I won't disappoint anyone!" I said as I gave off my charming smile.
He nodded and smiled as I received my textbooks in a bag that looked like a typical backpack custom-made for all the students and the dormitory key from him. I departed from the registration department and went toward my dormitory.
I wonder though... how will that be?
Outside, the trees arched over the marble walks, spitting out little showers of autumn-colored leaves. The students were all chattering excitedly amongst themselves, getting to know new people. Walking farther into campus to the dorms, I noticed a few female students pass past me, making a double-take and giggling with their friends.
The underclassmen dorms were simple, to say the least. It was clean and well-kept but lackluster in terms of furniture or decorations. It was a warm beige-colored interior with stairs that went all the way up to the top floor, where each floor contained a narrow hallway lined with rooms.
There were two male dorms and two female dorms within the academy. The two sets of dorms were separated by underclassmen and upperclassmen. Underclassmen were students that were still taking their general education classes.
These students were then moved into the upperclassmen dorms after they'd finished their general education courses and had formally decided on what type of student they were going to be.
After some walking in rounds, I was able to find my dorm room number 104....and "Oh? Boss Ryan! You are in my room too?" a familiar presence was standing in my room's entrance, opening the door.
The same voice, with short red hair and red attire with a cheerful attitude.
"It couldn't be..."
"Leon? Is that you?" I asked the boy as I continued walking toward him.
"You really are the Ryan I know! Hey man! How have you been?" He asked as he ran toward me, giving me a tight hug, leaving me suffocated.
"Hey! Hey!" I pushed him as I took a breather and continued, "Its been so long man. How have you been!" I asked him with a smile.
"Well, you know... I will fill in the details later, but I have to say that I'm already at the orange-light stage. What do you think? Could you fight me like we promised?"
This brat, he didn't even change. Did he not attend the freshmen ceremony.
"Sure! I'll take you on, brother. Let's go in and take rest for now!" I said to him with an awkward smile.
"Right! Let's go in~" Leon said as he inserted the key and opened the room. As soon as he had opened the door, Ku bolted into the room, immediately making a nest out of one of the beds.
The room wasn't nearly as fancy as the one we were staying in yesterday, but it had a very homey feel.
Walking in, to our right were two closets, and to our left was a small bathroom crammed with two adjacent sinks, a shower, and toilet.
Two beds were placed side by side, separated by a nightstand placed against the left side of the wall while on the right side was a long drawer for folded clothes.
The sleeping area and the studying area were divided by a wall that came up to our waist, with three elevated steps leading to an arrangement of desks and couches.
The two desks were placed against walls opposite each other so we would be seated facing away while studying. A long couch was positioned against the miniature wall, separating the desks from the beds.
The far side of the wall was made almost entirely of glass, which instantly attracted me towards it. The view encompassed a big portion of the campus, which was currently a canvas of fall colors. Looking at it from here, I would have no idea that this place was an institute for mages without being told so.
Taking a seat on the opposite bed where Ku was, "Ryan! you already have a magical beast companion? Lucky you!" Leon said with a smile as he made funny faces towards Ku.
"Sigh" Seeing this guy here really brings back memories. Helen, Evana, Leon, and me. We were quite the team back then.
"Hey! how's Helen doing?" I asked him as I saw one of his funny faces.
Letting out a chuckle, "Helen? she is here too I guess. She said she would be joining this year!" He said.
"Really! that's a surprise!" I replied with excitement. "Are you both still the same?" I asked him with a laugh.
"Well, she does act that way every time...so, I suppose!" He replied with a puffed-up face.
Leaving a full-laugh out loud sigh, I started to think, "I wonder though, how's Evana doing.."
Thinking about the ice princess, I fell onto the couch, my body practically melting from fatigue. I retrieved my stuff I had packed from my spatial ring. Letting out a sigh, even it wasn't a lot, I turned away and denied their existence, dreading the hours of unpacking to come.
