Chapter 14 - ch. 14 The Spring and a Song

December 7 1985, Saturday -4pm

I just got back from football practice in the local indoor stadium. In addition to my duffel bag, I have some groceries with me. I fell in love with potioneering... I mean cooking. I remember from my past life I never did experienced finer cuisines. My idea back then of "splurging" is eating 'deluxe' menus on local fast food restaurants.

Now with money and a kitchen complete with everything I need, I can eat all those fancy food I saw on TV and the mukbangs I watched.

I place my groceries on the kitchen table and took out the two still-alive 5 lbs lobsters I bought and place them in a bowl of water by the sink. I'm having lobster fried rice with egg drop soup for dinner.

As I check the time. It was still early to cook dinner so I freshen up a bit with a quick shower. After that I check my greenhouse in the backyard.

The greenhouse is divided into two, separated by a stone path in the middle. Why two you ask? I'm observing the effect of the water from my Spring of Purity of course.

Both section has identical number and varieties of plants. Nothing extravagant, just simple vegetables, cacti and common ornamental plants. On my left is my constant group, only watered by normal tap water. On the right is the group with introduced variable, the group watered by tap water that has a drop of my spring water.

Why just a drop? Because the world's will is being a b*tch! When I tried to take water from the spring I'm surprised that there was a cost. A single drop cost me to feel tiered. I felt like I just did a 100 meter dash in under 10 seconds.

The drop came out from my right index finger. I almost thought it was just sweat but I see it has a bit of silver glow through my magic sight. Nana said it's the world's way of keeping balance. Well there goes my plans on profiting from the spring.

Back to my garden. My constant group in not doing well in the cold December weather. There is also signs of yellowing of leaves and wilting stems.

The other group, with diluted spring water, is faring better. There is stll some signs of growth and no yellow leaves yet. At least some good news.

Nana said that my Spring might benefit from the bloodline of my contracted beast. So I made up my mind to only contract the bloodlines that has "healing" properties like a phoenix that has healing tears.

I also experimented giving my spring water to people and animals by slipping it in thier drinks. But as I expected, it needs prolong exposure to see visible effects.

Surprisingly the spring water has no effect on me. Well thinking back I never did got sick and my cuteness is already through the roof.

Nana tried it once. She said the effect is close to none at all. If we use money as an analogy, a drop of my spring water is $100. If I use it on me, it's like I gave myself the $100 from my own wallet. Worst, I won't get back the strength I used. And giving it to Nana, is like giving $100 to Bill Gates.

To a normal person, $100 can be a welcomed gift but it is still far little to be considered as life changing.

After taking note of the current status of garden plants. I pluck some spring onions and return back to the kitchen. I wash and chopped the vegetables and set them asside. I set up the steamer and laid the lobster in to rest in peace.

I took back the day-old rice from the fridge I prepared yesterday. Turn on the stove and start seasoning the wok.

When I'm about to star cooking, Nana arrived with company. She noticed me in the kitchen and called, "Marshall we have guests. Meet Linda and her daughter Stephanie. They are Old Jim's daughter and granddaughter. We met last year's Christmas party. They want to talk to you about something. I'll take over, Dear. Go talk to them"

" Ok wait a minute, ladies. Grandma, take a look at the lobsters if they are done already." I washed my hands and sat at the living room with the two guest who had a bewildered look seeing a 5 year old kid cooking with lobster, of all thing, as an ingredient.

I just overlooked thier shocked expression and acted as there's nothing wierd with my actions. We greeted each other and started talking.

To sum it up, Linda works in city hall and was assigned to direct a Christmas program held in the municipal hall on Dec.23rd. They remembered me singing 'my' song"Silent Night" at last years Christmas get-together at Old Jim's retirement home. They want me to sing it on thier program as the background song for the Nativity scene.

After hearing it, I look at Nana. She smile and gave me a reassuring nod so I said yes in participating. They were happy with my reply and said there will be a dress rehearsal on the 20th.

They were about to leave but I invited them to stay for dinner. They reluctantly accepted but then they were amazed by my skills as i finished cooking my dishes. They only have praises for the foods. Then they left.

As I lay on my bed that night, I can't stop planning what to do for my 'debut'.
