At Home
"Hun, Vic said the girl is a witch, but I can see she doesn't know what he is, and I can sense that she likes him," I said, looking at Shawn, worried.
"Well, I do know that on the prophecy, our son will meet with a witch, and that will be the reason for our clans to come together," he said. I looked utterly confused. "Well, we've completed two prophecies: me dating you, and us having a son," he explained.
It was at that moment I understood. "Shawn, how could you do this to me?" I asked, feeling utterly betrayed. Tears rolled down my face.
"Babe, I can explain," he said, realizing the gravity of what had just happened.
"Explain what? That everything we shared was just a facade? That you only wanted to fulfill the prophecy?" I demanded, my voice trembling. He inched forward, but I erected a magic barrier. He couldn't break through. My eyes were turning black, and my whole body was radiating red. The earth I stood on circled, and a threatening black mist revolved around me.
"Nyx, don't do this!" he pleaded, but I couldn't hear. I was drowning in the betrayal. "He said he loved me... so it was all a lie... he just wanted to fulfill the prophecy... so he had to date me... make me fall for him, have s*x with him, get a baby... Arrrgh!" The circle on the ground was now ablaze.
"Nyx, please listen to me! I didn't mean to hide it from you!" he was shouting. I had already lost control. I hadn't expected this from him, the person I loved with my heart.
"Nyx, forget about me, but think about our son! If you do this, who will he call mother? Please, Nyx! Alice, come back to me!" he was yelling.
"Ahhhhhhh!" I was blasting, black and red lights emanating from my body, threatening to tear me apart.
"Nyx, think about Vic... Mr. Nhai, your sister and mother... Please, don't do this!" he was begging.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" It hurt, but the betrayal hurt more.
"Mom, stop! Please, what are you doing?" I heard Vic. No, it was fake. Maybe Shawn was trying to trick me. He's a vampire...
Tiny hands wrapped around my feet. "Mom!" Vic called. I opened my eyes to see a crying Vic. I was speechless. His looks, his outfit, his hair... they were different. His clothes were all black with gold, his hair in a pixie cut, his skin so pale but healthy, his fangs, his reddish-golden eyes. I was frozen.
"It's me, Vic," he said. I was forced to stop whatever it was I was doing.
"You were in school," was the first thing I managed to say.
"Yeah... but a force pulled me here," he said. Then he began to examine himself. His facial expressions made me smile; he was so happy with his new demon looks. I, too, fell in love with it.
Shawn tried to break through the barrier, but it was strong, so he just stood there. "Mom, what is going on?" Vic asked.
"I was practicing a new spell and nothing else," I lied. He suspiciously looked at me, but I gave him a sweet smile, and he believed me.
"Why did you lock Dad out?" he asked.
"Because he never lets me focus," I said, again lying.
"But you would have hurt yourself," Vic said, sounding like a dad scolding his naughty daughter.
"So how will you explain what happened in school?" I asked him.
"I don't know, Mom," he said. I took out my phone and called the school. But then, there was this Vic who had been super nice.
"Did you scold your son, Mrs. Shawn? He's been nice today! He even offered to buy lunch for a girl he mistakenly pushed!" the principal said. Shawn and I exchanged looks. "Oh, actually, I called to ask if he was nice today... but since that's the case, I'll hang up, bye," I said in a haste and ended the call.
"So the force made a duplicate of you, that will expire after you get back from school," I concluded. My eyes landed on Shawn, who looked so helpless at the moment. I let the barrier fall because I didn't want Vic to suspect. Shawn rushed to me like I was his life.
"Are you hurt? I was so worried!" he said. I wanted to push him away, but I played along.
"You care about me that much that I had to lock you out? Sorry about that," I said. He hugged me.
"Baby, I'm sorry... I think I'll explain when we are alone," he said. I was beginning to feel dizzy, but I was holding up for Vic.
