Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Our new home 1

On our way to the airport, I got a message. Opening it, I saw that it was from Courtney. The picture was of her eating a bucket of ice cream. I've only been gone for ten minutes.

Me: "You know, it's not good to eat that much ice cream."

Courtney: "It's the only thing I can do to remove the sadness."

Me: "You could work on your chemistry assignment."

Courtney: The person who usually helps me is on her way to another country."

Me: "Well you have to do them by yourself now."

Courtney: "Are you almost at the airport?"

Me: "I'm not sure, I'll call you later, bye."

Courtney: "Ok, bye." In a few hours, I'll be starting a new life in another country. I couldn't shake off the feeling that my life was going to change completely. It was a weird feeling, but I couldn't help it.

****15 minutes later****

The car stopped to a halt. We were at the airport. The last time I was here was when we got back from our vacation two years ago. Usually when I'm here, a feeling of excitement crowded me because it always signified an amazing vacation ahead of me. But now, it signified a new beginning.

I got down and carried my luggage. I trailed behind my parents. Ten minutes later, we were boarding the plane. I pulled my jacket over my body, pulled out my headphones and slipped into the seat. Three hours more and we'll be in Canada.

****3 hours later****

We're in Canada! Immediately I stepped out of the airport, I felt the cold air hit me and it sent a shiver across my body. Surprisingly, A taxi was already waiting for us.

On our way, I looked out of the window. Everything was beautiful. We were still driving through the busy streets. It all looked the same. There was no difference from San francisco. Cars speeding across the road, people walking to get to their destination, Buildings in every corner.

'Yep, definitely the same as California.'

After a while, we got to a much quieter road. Everywhere was surrounded by tall trees.

'This place is quite creepy at night.'

About ten minutes later, we stopped. Getting out of the car, I saw the beautiful mansion that the car stopped in front of. It was even bigger than our former house. I was shocked.

"Is this our new house?" I knew it was a dumb question, but my brain was finding it hard to process the fact that this was our new home. The look on my face showed it all. I was shocked, amazed and unexplainably, nervous.

"Yes, it is." My dad replied.

"Let's go inside." My mom said,

When we got inside, I felt like I was in a castle. It was so spacious! The chandelier dropped from the centre of the ceiling. The walls were painted white and the tiles looked really shiny. I stared at the double stairs that lead to the next floor. It was also coated white and black.

At the other end of the parlour, was a huge couch, which was opposite a big flat screen tv. I went to the kitchen which was also spacious. Next to the kitchen was the dining room which had a long table which could accommodate 10 people. I was shocked by everything.

"Do you like the house?" My mom asked.

"Yeah, it's spectacular." I said dumbfounded.

"I knew you would love it. Now go check out your room, it's the second room on your right."

"Ok, " I said excitedly and rushed upstairs. There were beautiful paintings on the wall. Some looked weird though. I stared at a few of them, wondering what crazy artist drew them.

I got to my room's door. I took in a deep breathe before going in. What I saw brought my excitement to a whole new level. In front of me was a breathtaking room. A queen sized bed that looked very comfy was in the center of the room.

The room had two windows and a giant double glass door that led to the balcony. Stepping into the bathroom, I saw that all the bathroom essentials were there. The bathroom was nice. I felt like I could stay there forever! There was another door in the room. Curious, I opened it and what I saw left me speechless.

A whole closet that was as big as my former room laid in front of me. My eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets.

'I think I might like it here.' I strolled to the end of the room. I now had my own walk-in closet!

It's not that my family was poor, but we never had the opportunity to live in a house like this. And my parents weren't the type of people to chase wealth, they were comfortable with the little things of life. But this promotion that my dad earned also came with this mind-blowing house and my parents could not say no to it.

I laid on the bed, and as I thought, it was very comfortable. Bringing out my phone, I texted Courtney.

Me: "I'm in Canada." I excitedly waited for her to reply. She answered after a few minutes.

Courtney: "Cool! How is it?"

Me: "Canada or the house?"

Courtney: "The house of course!"

Me: " I have only one word to describe the house."

Courtney: "Which is?"

Me: "Fantastic. I love it! Canada doesn't look bad."

"Courtney: "Really? The house must be beautiful."

Me: "It is." It's much bigger than my old place!"

Courtney: "Send me a picture now."

Me: Give me a minute."

I took a picture of my room and sent it to her.

Courtney: "OMG, your room is amazing!

Me: "I know right. Anyway, I have to go. Call you tomorrow. Bye.

Courtney: "Bye."

I went downstairs and saw my mom with some boxes. I went over to help her.

"Thanks honey."

"So mom, which school will I attend now?"

"We still have to search. Don't worry, you're not starting until the next session, so there's still plenty of time."

"Yeah, I'm going to be a senior at a new school, just great."

"Don't worry, I know you'll fit right in." She encouraged me. I shook my head in disbelief.

"You told me that seven years ago during my first day at Fairfield. And what happened?" That day literally scared me.

"You were ten years old back then. You are now mature and much wiser. I believe you will know how to take care of yourself much better."

"Sure but…you're right. I won't let a repeat of seven years ago happen."

"I trust that. Now go unpack your stuff. You'll have a lot of work tomorrow."

"I'm going now." I yelled. I started to carry my bags, that were thankfully not many. Getting to my new room, I dropped them all on the ground and headed to my closet. Never would I have imagined having a whole room as my closet.

I stared at each of the wardrobes and cabinets.

'This is going to take a while.'
