Chereads / The Commander (WC) / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Ye Fan found himself bewildered; the situation felt too fantastical. The abrupt arrival of Nana's female voice left him grappling with its reality. If not for the lame commander's acknowledgment, he might have dismissed it as a dream.

The impending apocalypse, coupled with a self-proclaimed "handsome" title, struck him as utterly incredible.

"Nana? Why 'handsome commander'? I get 'handsome,' but what's with 'commander'?"

"Your Excellency, Commander, congratulations are in order. Your actions unknowingly triggered the unique Red Alert system, birthing my existence. I, along with all future members of the Red Alert unit, owe our loyalty to you."

"The Red Alert system... you mean the game I played?"

"Yes, the Red Alert system transcends reality, residing within your mind. You are its supreme commander."

Ye Fan, still grappling with the surreal revelation, interjected, "I think I get it." Pinching his ankle to confirm the physical pain, he accepted the reality that the Red Alert system had entered his mind during unconsciousness.

As he questioned the extent of his newfound authority, Nana clarified, "Sir, the Red Alert system is embedded in your DNA, with enhancements. Production units now align with your country's actual capabilities, offering a richer array of options."

"For instance?"

"Tanks are no longer restricted to Rhino and Apocalypse types. Options vary based on your country. Infantry, air force, and naval units have all been adjusted. Consider aircraft carriers, now customizable to carry up to ninety-five aircraft."

Excitement sparked in Ye Fan's eyes. "Can I start producing?"

"Not yet. The Red Alert system initiates at the basic level. As your command units grow, you'll unlock higher permissions, gaining more assistance."

"What authority do I have now?"

"You hold squad leader authority. Once your command units surpass squad size, you'll be promoted to platoon leader."

Ye Fan, familiar with Qin and Han Dynasty combat organization, calculated that producing nine soldiers would elevate his authority.

"Then produce eight army soldiers for me."

"Commander, without the physical Red Alert base, only the virtual building system is active. Check the command panel for options."

Ye Fan, thinking about the command panel, noticed an extra pattern, resembling the game screen.

Similar to the game, four fields appeared: main building, defensive building, soldier page, and machine page.

Ye Fan, still in the early stages, had established a power plant and barracks in the game before its abrupt end.

The virtual world mirrored his initial game deployment, with main buildings like power plants, barracks, and radars available.

Ye Fan pondered, "Why no mining site?"

"No minerals in the virtual world mean no mining farm construction," Nana explained.

Examining the costs, Ye Fan noticed adjustments. The radar, priced at five thousand gold, differed from the game.

The only producible combat unit, mobilization soldiers, required 100 gold. Eager to begin, Ye Fan realized, "Then let's produce eight mobilization soldiers first."

"Sir, lacking funds, production is currently impossible."

"Where are my funds? Isn't there still a few thousand gold in the game?"

"Game funds are for system improvement, not usable in the real world. Collecting funds is the commander's responsibility."

"Collect it myself? Need cash?"

"Collect precious metals like gold, platinum, silver, gemstones, and jade from the Red Alert World. Paper money is worthless."

Ye Fan, realizing his financial plight, exclaimed, "I want gold and silver, but I don't have any!"

Nana reassured him, "Sir, don't worry. You have the commander's gift bag."

"Gift bag?"

Ye Fan, observing the game interface, spotted a flashing bag icon.

Upon receiving it, a physical bag materialized in the real world.

"The gift pack, generated based on revised game funds, upgrades with the Red Alert system. Currently, you have the squad leader gift pack."

Excited, Ye Fan opened the bag, revealing a set of clothes, a pair of shoes, a hat, and a belt. "Is this... a camouflage uniform?"

Upon donning it, he discovered protective capabilities against zombie claws. The epaulettes marked him as a squad leader.

The bag also contained a military satchel, offering a cubic meter of space, weightless carrying, and food preservation capabilities equivalent to a refrigerator.

Ye Fan marveled at the quality, comparing it to a space ring. Another find—a revolver labeled 'Commander's gun'—further enhanced his arsenal.

As Ye Fan surveyed his newfound gear, the Red Alert system unveiled a reality where the game's strategic elements seamlessly merged with the tangible challenges of an unraveling world.

And there it was, tucked at the bottom of the bag—a car key.

Nana spoke at this time: "Because the building where the officer is located is inconvenient for parking, when this key appears, the officer's car will be automatically parked downstairs."

Ye Fan felt happy and picked up the car key to see what brand it was.

Commander's vehicle (squad leader level): Jialing JH600B military sidecar motorcycle, with two passengers and one driver. A light machine gun can be placed in the co-pilot position. Any combat unit can be used as the driver. It is of high quality and not easy to be damaged. You can use system gold coins to repair automatically, or engineers to repair.

Seeing this, Ye Fan almost spat out a mouthful of blood.

This is the end of the world, and the streets are full of zombies. Why on earth do you want me to ride a sidecar motorcycle!
