The blood trail, which included blood droplets on weeds growing in the forest or around trees, started to increase. The blood, which had previously been difficult to detect, became visible, and a long straight line of trail emerged.
"It presumably dragged its body since the limb had gone slack as a result of the blood loss, but dragging its body in a near-death state indicates that it had some hope. Are there wolves nearby?
