Chapter 112: Democracy

News of the Daimyo's execution spread quickly, most people are shocked with the blatant action of the former clan leader Uchiha Madara.

People knew the Uchiha were unpredictable, but no one expected this level of defiance. Some were pleased, especially those who had suffered under the late Daimyo's oppressive rule, while others, particularly those involved in Uchiha Kazuha's assassination, were deeply unsettled.

Other Daimyo, fearing for their own safety, sent letters to Hashirama, asking him to address Madara's actions. However, Hashirama took no action, as he deemed Madara more valuable than the Daimyo.

Setsuna, who had returned early, came back with the Uzukage to meet with Hashirama at the Daimyo's mansion.

Even though Uzushiogakure wasn't part of the Land of Fire, they remained allies of Konoha.

"I suggest we abolish the Daimyo system and replace it with a democracy," proposed Setsuna.

As someone from 21st-century America, he understood the benefits of democracy. In his view, it could prevent unnecessary bloodshed. Feudal societies often led to internal conflict, with even family members eliminating each other to gain power.

In Europe, some kings married their siblings to maintain power, but in the end, their descendants became weak due to their foolishness.

Setsuna wanted to end the Daimyo era after Izuna's rampage and replace it with democracy.

"What is democracy?" asked Hashirama.

"It works like this, the people will vote for their leader, who will govern them for five years," explained Setsuna.

"No, that's not stable," Hashirama rejected.

"What do you mean it's not stable? This is the best method. Look at Nezuko—she was killed because of the Daimyo. The best thing is to change the system and replace the Daimyo with elections," Setsuna insisted.

"No, it will cause unnecessary bloodshed. There are four other Daimyo, and if we do this, it will throw the world into war," Hashirama replied.

"What are you afraid of? If the Daimyo resist, we can remove them from power," said Setsuna.

"No," Hashirama firmly rejected the idea of democracy.

---Hashirama Wisdom---

"System, is Hashirama still affected by the virus?" asked Setsuna.

"Wait a moment, I'll check... Scanning complete," said the System. "According to the data, the virus doesn't need to affect him because Hashirama's wisdom is so low that it would actually increase his wisdom instead of decreasing it."

"What? Do you mean Hashirama's wisdom is 30, while the system's wisdom is 35, and a normal person's wisdom is 60? Did I get that right?" asked Setsuna.

"Correct, host. The reduction in wisdom would actually surpass Hashirama's current wisdom," confirmed the System.

"What a situation... I remember he's the one who casually shared the tailed beasts, and after his death, those same tailed beasts were used against Konoha," muttered Setsuna.

Setsuna had planned to change the feudal system to democracy. It's true there are benefits to feudalism, but looking back at the Naruto comic's events, part of the reason the ninja world wars happened was because of the Daimyo. For example, the Wind Daimyo supported Konoha instead of Sunagakure.

This, of course, made the already poor Suna even poorer, and there were many more such examples. He also believed that Uzushiogakure was destroyed because of the Daimyo. The island was autonomous and didn't need the Daimyo to govern it, which likely led to the Daimyo's attack on Uzushiogakure.

---Madara And Izuna Change---

Madara and Izuna had left Konoha after their actions against the Daimyo, and now they were living with the Uchiha Clan in Uzushiogakure.

Compared to life in Konoha, life here was more relaxed, and the people were more accepting. This was largely due to Uchiha Setsuna, who had become a teacher, inventor, and had even married into the Uzumaki Clan.

He had also brought those Uchiha who were not radical to live together, most of whom were children. Moreover, Setsuna introduced a Sealing Machine VR to awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan, ensuring that even when those children grew older, they wouldn't develop a radical mindset due to the Sharingan's influence.

Setsuna had made many changes in Uzushiogakure, with the first being the minimum age of 18 for battlefield participation.

Setsuna had debated with several elders regarding the appropriate age for someone to be sent to battle, settling on no less than 18, and preferably those aged 23 or older.

To support this, Setsuna introduced subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, and even knowledge about space.

If he hadn't introduced these subjects, his suggestion might have been rejected, but due to the positive impact on the economy, and the Uzumaki Clan's growing preference for wealth over warfare, his proposal gained the majority's support within the clan.

Now, Madara and Izuna were discussing democracy.

"Brother, I think Setsuna is making a valid point," said Izuna.

"Democracy... it's a new idea, and it might be effective," replied Madara, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"But the problem is that Hashirama rejected it," said Izuna.

"Yeah, I also wanted to reject it," Madara agreed.

"Why, brother?" asked Izuna, puzzled.

"Because only the Senju and Uchiha should have the right to vote for the leader. Other villages should remain our subordinates," Madara replied.

"What?" Izuna was taken aback, not understanding Madara's reasoning.

"Izuna, listen. The reason the world has remained at peace is because of our last battle. Do you remember what happened before we established Konoha?" questioned Madara.

"Yeah, I remember," Izuna replied, recalling the battle that had leveled mountains and rivers, ending after three days.

"The other ninja clans are afraid of us. That's why they chose to form villages and avoid launching another war," said Madara.

"I understand, brother," Izuna nodded.

"Democracy is impossible. But an internal democracy might work—one attended only by the Uchiha and Senju. We vote for the Hokage, and the other ninja should simply follow our arrangements," said Madara.

Madara believed that power and peace were maintained because of the Senju and Uchiha.

While Setsuna's suggestion was valid, it also had flaws. Even in the modern era, there were still wars, and the leaders of those wars were often nations like America.

When the subject of oil came up, they'd promote democracy.
