Chapter 2 - Papa's demise

Ayberk received the letter from the man, who then left the room. Breaking the seal, Ayberk sat on the chair and placed his arm on the rock table before opening the letter. He immediately recognized the handwriting.

"It's from Ma," Ayberk said to Luke, who was waiting expectantly.

"What does it say?" Luke asked.

Ayberk began to read aloud, "Hello Ayberk, I hope you are alright, son. Everything is fine in Skarland. But my son, today we received very sad news from Riveria. Lunardo, your father, has..."

He paused, struggling to process the words. His eyes met Luke's, filled with sorrow.

"What is it, Ay?" Luke asked, his voice full of concern.

"My father... he's passed away," Ayberk said slowly, his voice heavy with grief.

Luke stepped closer, placing a comforting hand on Ayberk's shoulder. "I'm so sorry, Ay. I can't even begin to understand your pain."

Ayberk nodded, his gaze distant. "It's not just that I haven't seen him in the last 12 years... he was... I don't know what to say," he admitted, his eyes brimming with tears.

"I'm here for you, Ay," Luke assured him, his voice firm.

"Thank you, Luke. Can I have a moment alone?" Ayberk requested.

Luke nodded and left the room. Ayberk stared at the letter, consumed by sorrow. After some time, he composed himself and went to find Luke.

"We need to gather the Ay Brotherhood in the strategy room," Ayberk instructed.

As they assembled, Ayberk stood at the window, lost in thought. Luke placed his axe on the table and joined the others. Ayberk turned to address his men.

"Brothers, I need to return to Skarland. My father has passed away," he began, his voice steady despite the grief. "I need some of you to stay here for the negotiations with the Bavarians. This is important for Skarvaria."

He called out, "Samuel," and a man with long black hair and a beard stepped forward. Ayberk placed his hands on Samuel's shoulders. "After Luke, you are my most trusted man. You are now the leader of the brotherhood. I believe you will come to good terms with the Bavarians."

"Yes, brother. It's an honor. I'll do my best," Samuel assured him.

"Good. I'll leave 15 men here with you. You can choose them," Ayberk instructed.

Samuel nodded. Ayberk then addressed the rest of the brotherhood. "Those who are coming with me, we'll leave in the morning. The rest, prepare to stay and handle the negotiations."

As the men dispersed, offering their condolences, Luke approached Ayberk. "Are you alright, Ay?" he asked.

Ayberk nodded slightly. "I hope so," he replied softly.

"Whatever you need, I'm here," Luke assured him again.

"Thanks, Luke," Ayberk said, his voice filled with gratitude.
