Elaine had wanted a peaceful escape. She had hoped for a peaceful escape. But even that seemed too good to be true.
Just as they had stepped out through the back door, Heipher, the short, wicked henchmen awoke from his slumber and chased after them.
"To think you would betray me, Spike!," his voice carried in the silent night. And the taller of the two who stood beside her clenched in his fists, staring silently at his friend who stood a few feet from where they stood.
"To think you would betray our master," he countered. "For only a few pieces of gold."
"You're stupid," Heipher sneered. "To think it wise to do what you are doing."
"And you are cheap," Spike retorted. "You're a cheap bastard, Heipher with no sense of belonging." He sneered back. "I may not be a leader like who you seem to think you are. But at least I know where I belong. At least I have a home."
