Elaine moaned, slowly regaining her consciousness. The pain shooting through the side of her head kept her eyes open as her brain slowly rebooted.
"Ahh," she heard a familiar voice. "You are awake...finally. I was beginning to think I hit you too hard."
She tried to move her limbs but she found them unable to move, as though stuck or rather, tied to something. Upon glancing down at her arms, she saw that it was her father's rocking chair.
Her vision was blurry as she raised her gaze to meet whoever was speaking to her, eventually focusing enough to recognise the towering silhouette of Mr Heintingold.
"You...bastard," her teeth gnashed together in pain and anger.
"Now, now. Soft words," he barked out a mocking laugh. The place was too bright, perhaps it was because she had seen nothing but darkness for while. But her eyes were not adjusting quickly to the brightness and it caused her headache to significantly increase.
