Chapter 35 - Prometheus, the Renowned (part 4)

"Prepare how? Prometheus you have a tendency to do this. You explain things as if everyone in the world already understands the explanation and unfortunately that is not the case," Daedalus said.

Prometheus sighed, he knew he was right. It was part of the reason people viewed him as standoffish. Conclusions were a lot easier to come to for Prometheus. He had learned so at an early age, he always seemed to pick up on things that others didn't then arrogantly exclaim 'don't you see it?' But in truth they didn't. Prometheus had learned to dumb it down over the years, learn to explain more, but when he got excited or inspired it would go out the window. He had known Daedalus for a while now. In that time he had seen him as someone smart and hardworking, but even for all his strengths and for how much Prometheus truly did trust his opinion; he hated to admit but they were not on the same level.

"From what Fuju said and judging by the item he took, he believes that when we go on the elevator with all the devices we are going to be transported somewhere, but obviously not where we think we will be transported. So we need to trust that Fuju took the Re-Ring to deal with the spell, we need to be prepared for a fight," Prometheus said.

"Prepare for war…" Daedalus said.

Prometheus nodded, it was a scary notion to be sure. Many members of the party and the crew had seen battle, but oftentimes the battle was hard fought and was brought together by standing side by side with your brothers in arms; training with them. This was different. They barely knew each other and didn't trust one another. They didn't know how each other would behave in combat nor if they could even fight together in the first place. Tomorrow was going to turn into combat, one way or another, they needed to be prepared.

"What would you like me to do?" Daedalus asked.

"Take the prototype bag and start putting things we might need into it," Prometheus said.

"Sir I…" Daedalus said, starting to object.

"I know what you are going to say but we don't really have a choice. I will think of a way to hide this from them while still being able to…be helpful," Prometheus said unsure.

Daedalus also was unsure. The research they had been doing was revolutionary, even by their own standards, they couldn't let it get out; especially before they were ready to actually show it to their own country let alone the rulers of other countries.

"I will…" suddenly Prometheus felt dizzy. He tried to finish his thought but found the world around him spinning. Before he knew what was happening, he hit the floor. He heard the voice of Daedalus calling out to him but it was muffled and incoherent; his vision started to go dark; all he wanted was to sleep.

-

What felt like only a moment or so later Prometheus's eyes fluttered back open. His exhaustion was gone. He pulled himself off the floor and looked around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, he was still in a lab, but some things had changed. One, Daedalus was gone, had he just left him on the floor? Two, the golem was gone as well; that was how he knew something truly was amiss. Instead of the golem in the middle of the room was a magic circle on a raised platform surrounded by a cage-like structure that had etchings of runes in it. Prometheus's curiosity was greater than his concern, so he went over and examined the runes. They were incredible to say the least. Each one was carved with expert skill and was inlaid with different rare gemstone dust. But that wasn't all, underneath the platform was an array of different arcane devices. Conductors, insulators, conduits and compressors, it was filled with devices to manipulate the ebb and flow of arcane energy but on a larger scale than Prometheus had ever seen.

"Curious…" he said, "how do they…" Prometheus reached out towards the cage but then heard the door to the lab open. He turned quickly in surprise, hoping to find out where he was but upon seeing who opened the door he found himself speechless. He was frozen, disabled almost, he was too stunned for any words or speech to come. For the first time in maybe his entire life, he felt himself overcome with emotion. Without even realizing it, tears began to well up and fall down his face.

"Meryn…" Prometheus said.
