Chapter 1 - ONE Incident

Sylvian Licht. A weak and malnourished-looking young man with an always dirty appearance. His long dark brown hair was caked with dirt that it almost looked black. Silver eyes that stay hidden behind the overgrown mess on top of his head.

Everywhere he went Sylvian was treated like trash. He got so used to the treatment that he no longer fought back. Despite the dark circles from lack of sleep and the injures he incurred doing construction work, Sylvian still continued his dark and dreary life.

There were times he wished he were dead. Many times he saw himself killing all those who treated him poorly. There was no one he cared about, no one he could turn to for help. He was all alone.

Sylvian dragged himself into work like normal. Dreading the torture he'll be put through the moment he arrives. The construction site he worked at was not far from the rundown apartment he lived in. It was managed by a powerful Architect Company known as Builder's Corp.

His task was to pile bricks. Though the pay was not much, it was enough to buy a single meal a day.

"Hey freak! What the hell are you doing?"

Sylvian, who had tossed a brick into a pile that was not his by accident, quickly dropped the next brick so he could bow and apologize. The person he feared more than anyone at this construction site was this jerk.

Maldern Clemis; a man with a large belly, stern face, and his superior, had been bullying him since he started working on the site. Right now, he was being reprimanded for using the wrong pile to throw bricks in.

"Fucking twerp. Be careful next time."

It's not the first time he made a mistake. Or the first time he's been scolded by his superior. And it's definitely not going to be the last.

Sylvian continued to work as much as his frail body could do. Usually, he could only toss about ten bricks before having to take a break. He also get reprimanded for this. It's a wonder that he never got fired.

"I must have been crazy for letting you work here. Get back to work!"

He only rested for about two minutes.

"Orphan! Go help the build team in zone 5!"

If it's zone 5, then that's the most dangerous place to go! Why send someone like him there? He wanted to argue but knew the consequences meant cutting his pay, so he kept his mouth shut.

Sylvian approached the east building construction zone. It was where the builders was clearing up the rest of the building area.

"He sent the freak, huh?"

The man who spoke was a burly guy wearing one of those construction hats and carrying a clipboard. The man gave him a once over before sighing, "whatever, you'll do."

Sylvian was put to work. He had to help clear the rubble from the building site into an entirely new pile. This was a task that will most likely take him all night.

Hours went by and the moon began to shine. Sylvian was the last person left at zone 5, everyone else had already gone home. He would take breaks before continuing.

The last person left was the boss who told him he wouldn't get extra pay just because he worked overtime. It was when his boss left him there to go to his onsite office that the incident happened.

It had already been clear that zone 5 was not a safe place to be without gear to keep one safe. But Sylvian wasn't given any gear since his task was to remove rubble on the ground floor.

Unaware of the piece of concrete above his head was loose, Sylvian continued to work diligently. He only did so because he had nothing else to do. Even though he won't get paid extra, if he cleared as much as possible then he won't have much to do the next time.

After piling one last brick in the pile behind him, the concrete above his head suddenly came loose. It was an impossible phenomenon that could not be explained. At least not unless an earthquake happened.

Though it was a slight tremor that could not be detected unless somehow focused, it was enough to loosen that one piece of already broken concrete.

Sylvian looked up but not before the concrete made contact with the ground by his feet. He didn't even have time to react, because he was already falling through the crumbling ground.

"AHHHHHHH!!"

He squeezed his eyes shut waiting for the impact and his sudden death. He didn't live the life that he wanted, but at least he no longer had to suffer. But he was still falling and the impact or sudden death never came.

Instead, it felt like he was drifting instead of falling. He opened his eyes but was faced with darkness. He could not see the hole he fell through, let alone the moon.

Sylvian turned his body so to see below him.

There was a bright light and what looked like a ground getting closer. He barely stopped two meters above the ground before he was dropped face first.

"Oof!"

He regret flipping over, damn that hurt. But...where the hell did he just fall? The light ahead gave him a clear visual of the surrounding area. Ahead was a long narrow hall with walls covered in dirt and grime.

Sylvian refrained from dusting himself off since he was already dirty himself. Since there was no way back up, he thought to move forward instead. He made his way through the hall made of stone. At the end he was met with a rusted vault-shaped door.

Those kind with the two lever handles that could only be opened if you turned them all the way around. Judging from the wear of this door, he would say that this place had been buried here for a long time.

Sylvian gripped the handles in the attempt to turn and open the door. It didn't budge an inch. Damn this weak body!

Come on!

Come on dammit!

He finally felt the handles creak to a turn. He let go as the handles turned on its on. The whole narrow hall started to shake from the pressure of the door coming loose and creaking to an open.

He thought it would cave in but was glad when it didn't. Taking a deep breath, Sylvian stepped in and jumped as the door slammed to a close behind him.

Again, he was left in darkness.

"Hello!" He shouted.

He was given the shock of his life as a voice rang out into the darkness.
