Chereads / Athanasios / Chapter 2 - Decaying space

Chapter 2 - Decaying space

The familiar kitchen gradually transforming into his nightmare, his legs sinking into the decaying soil like a quicksand.

Am I day dreaming?, No, this absolutely can not be a dream!.

Suddenly, he heared a indistinguishable ravings, the pain in his head intensified as he was being swallowed by the decaying soil.

If this maddnes goes on, it won't be too long until I am dead!.

Desperately, he scanned his surroundings searching for a way out, hoping to find salvation, all he could see is the indigo-purple spark of Light, Luther didn't have the luxury of time to pounder, he immediately started resisting the soil swallowing him and moved reaching for it.

One step.

The piercing pain in his head intensified further, felling as his skull was about to split open.

Tow steps.

The ravings chaoticly grew louder leaving him on edge of losing his sanity, he could feel his consciousness slipping away.

Three steps.

His vision became erratic, with shapes shifting unpredictable, suddenly, he became aware of something unusual, a figure outlined itself behind the indigo-purple spark.

Luther fixed his gaze at the figure, focusing with great difficulty in an attempt to discern it's form, yet, he still failed.

He immediately reached his hand to uncover his eyes from the bandages in order to have better vision, Luther has been always quiet cautious about using his eyes or showing it to anyone, Emma always warned of that, despite not knowing what was it exactly he had his own gueses, facing death, he wouldn't hesitate to use them!.

He removed the bandages off and opened his eyes,

Luther's eyes were unlike anything human. They glowed with an ethereal, piercing blue, as if they held the very essence of the sky and ocean within them. His irises were rimmed with a delicate, concentric pattern, a hypnotic swirl of cerulean light that seemed to ripple and shift with every heartbeat. The intensity of his gaze was almost unbearable, a radiant beacon that drew and repelled in equal measure. It felt as though looking into those eyes was to peer into an endless, luminous void, teeming with unfathomable power and ancient secrets. Each glint of light from his pupils suggested depths of wisdom and strength that defied mortal comprehension.

He was now able the see everything he could see the sky filled with endless sparking stars, the decaying soil had rotten bodies buried deep down, his gaze seemed to reach the ends of earth, however, the horizon seemed infinite as well, he stared again behind the indigo-purple spark, his eyes caught the figure.

It was a man wearing a black cloak, his tall figure was almost buried completely by the soil, his hand was extremely skinny, all skin and pones, his face was covered completely by the hood, however, Luther's gaze pierced through the fabric right into his face.

He saw a pale, decaying and rotten visage, as if there where no flesh, most of the man's face was burned gradually from the side, exposing his skull and thin muscle fibers, he stared onto Luther's eyes with a stunned expression, he seemed to recognise those eyes!.

This....

The two of them sprang into action going for the indigo-purple spark, however، the cloaked man seemed to move with even greater difficulty than Luther, with his vision, he saw pale rotten hands graping the cloaked man making him unable to make any kind of progress while Luther was completely unharmed.

If this place wasn't a nightmare all along but a real place, then only my astral projection comes here evertime, otherwise evertime I come here my disappearnce will be immediately noticed, if I get hurt that can still deal serious harm to me, and it's even worse if my soul is the one being dragged!, and this fellow here surely has ill intention i don't want to see what he'll do if he reaches this spark.

He couldn't help but evaluate the situation Superficiality as he didn't have the luxury of time, he seized the opportunity reaching for the spark while the other party was in his dilemma, taking his final step, he reached his destination.

when he extended his hand to grab it the spark grew brighter, it wasn't just mere light it was a massive, divine. ominous force, it was more like a sun that almost blinded him, at this rate the ravings and the pain seemed to fade away, the quicksand vanished and Luther gained his lucidity back.

almost instantly a separative force stemmed from the light that emitted a sun delivering a shiver and coldness to the surroundings, Luther was left unharmed but when it reached to the cloaked man he let out a loud cry, he lifted his hands to shield himself but they eventually decayed and fell the the ground like rotten flesh, it wasn't long until his antire body rotted away as well, leaving behind no trace of his existence.

The light shrank into a small spark and fused with Luther, leaving only the sparking stars as a source of light, a black and complected fabrics surged out of the void behind him enveloping his antire figure with several layers of darkness, forming a black cloak.

At first glance, the cloak seemed to possess the same ominous aura, spreading coldness and decay all around Luther. Yet, he discerned that this aura wasn't from the dark-colored cloak, but emanated from his very self. His mind raced with thoughts as he couldn't help but analyze what had happened.

Before delving deeper, Luther decided to take a proper look at this world. It appeared to be a decayed wasteland filled with rotten flesh. The infinite horizon was shrouded in darkness, not because Luther couldn't see, but because it was a pure void, impenetrable. The sky was dotted with countless stars, one of which sparkled with an indigo-purple hue.

Luther reached a brief conclusion about what had transpired. As he had dreamt of this place for as long as he could remember, discovering that it was real and that his astral projection frequented it meant that he must have made a mystical connection with it at some point. Considering him not an intruder, the space had attacked the cloaked man while leaving Luther unharmed. When he established connection with the ominous spark, he became its master.

Regarding the cloaked man, Luther speculated that he had been seeking to establish a connection with this space. His intrusion triggered the space, dragging him here. Unfortunately for him, there was already someone else present.

As Luther pondered, questions flooded his mind. Why did the cloaked man react the way he did upon seeing his eyes? What drove him to seek connection with this place? What power would one gain by becoming its master?.

Suddenly, Luther became aware of something. The mana flow in his channels became much smoother. His heart raced with joy; he thought he could finally use magic.

"If I am the master of this space now, shouldn't there be a throne for me instead of this rotten land?" Luther wondered aloud.

He attempted to control the space, shaping it into a more fitting place. Almost instantly, a tall, dark throne surged out of the ground, its top adorned with intricate spikes shaped like a triangle. As Luther marveled at his newfound power, a long table materialized infront of the throne,

He opened his palm and exerted the ominous energy there; an indigo-purple star appeared. He inserted it into the air, serving as a projector, and a scene materialized. It depicted him standing in the kitchen, in front of the stove, his head bowed as if in deep slumber.

"The flesh is rare, still needs more time," he muttered to himself. "Oh, poor Dona. It took her ages to perform a live monitoring spell that allows her to replicate a place out of earth material. Meanwhile, I didn't even need to cast a spell for this vived scene." He couldn't hold back his sarcastic laughter.

I have to go back before Emma notices anything amiss. I need to explore this place more later as well. From the looks of it, this cloaked man recognized my eyes and was even stunned, making them special unlike any mystical eyes. All I know about them myself is that showing them to someone might cause serious harm, and they give me great vision as well as the ability to track people's movements. Even with the bandages, I can still see in the dark, Luther thought as he watched the meal cooking.

despite his eyes being very advantageous, he sill lacked control over them as he could never use magic, it was like they were always switched on leaving no time to cool down, it was exhausting always just seeing he had to block his vision with bandages and close his eyes, that way he can see like normal, when he sleeps he had to keep the room dark and close his eyes when covering it, serving as a whole three layers of Concealment just so he can sleep.

This space allowed me to use magic and eased my mana flow. I can use its ominous power in some way. Even if it might be limited to this place, it's still not a simple space if it can adjust my mana core's essence. Judging from that perspective, this cloaked fellow isn't as simple as he seems too. He might even still be alive, and even if he doesn't know where I am, he still knows what I look like. The last thing I want is Uncle Cloaked paying me a visit at night! Luther leaned back on his throne, his mind racing with thoughts.

I shall leave for now. He closed the scene of himself and attempted to return. As a genius in mysticism and magic, he already had a way to leave. The connection between him and this space was deep to the point where he didn't need to worry about casting spells. It must be linked to his subconsciousness a trigger as simple as emitting a fall could bring him back, just like waking up from a dream.

As soon as this thought flashed across his mind, he sinked into the throne shrouded in darkness, sinking back into the world sinking into his body, he saw the familiar kitchen again.

Luther finished the meal and asked Emma to arrange the table for dinner, the meal he made was roast beef with root vegetables, Roast beef with root vegetables was a staple in Victorian-era kitchens, celebrated for its hearty and comforting qualities.

The meal typically included a flavorful roast paired with a variety of vegetables like carrots, potatoes, parsnips, and turnips. Often enhanced with a splash of red wine or broth and a touch of fresh rosemary, this dish was known for its tender, juicy roast and perfectly caramelized vegetables, making it a delicious and satisfying centerpiece for any table.

Luther sat at the table with his sister Emma, the rich aroma of roast beef mingling with the earthy scent of roasted root vegetables, He carefully sliced through the tender beef, the knife gliding effortlessly as the caramelized crust gave way to the juicy interior.

Luther stacked a piece of beef atop a forkful of earthy carrots and sweet parsnips, their caramelized edges promising a delightful contrast in texture. As he took his first bite, he savored the savory blend of flavors, his eyes closing in sheer enjoyment.

The beef was succulent, each mouthful releasing an aromatic burst of herbs and spices. The roasted vegetables added a hearty note, their earthy flavors perfectly complementing the meat.

Emma's fork moved with a rhythmic precision, devouring the meal with an evident pleasure. Each chew was a dance of textures, the tender beef mingling with the crisp edges of the caramelized vegetables. she felt a profound satisfaction with every bite, the food nourishing more than just her body.

The sibling finished dinner and cleaned the table, Emma went to her room and Luther went to his, he changed into his home attire and then he went to his desk opposite of his bed and sat, he took a piece of paper and started writing the keypoints.

A decaying land I established a connection with and I am it's master, first it seems to grants me access to use magic, second it's ominous energy might have suppressed a seal inside me, considering if I can't use magic I won't have a core in the first place despite being examined by the best mages they still couldn't fathom the problem nor detect a seal, this might very well be an advanced sealing magic.

That can explain me not having any memories of my childhood nor past, nor knowing the origin of my eye, or even knowing when have I established connection with this space, me and Emma aren't blood-related as well, she could be monitoring me science she is an official as a valuable asset, she never tells me about anything regarding that except that it's for my own safety to be with her, also she denied that she is monitoring me as her job.

She sure knows something but she refuses to tell me, I have never saw a power similar to that ominous space, shouldn't be the maximum power a mage can wield is just casting spells depending on how strong the manna core he was born with? Plus manipulating elements of nature?. Luther began to doabt what he learned from all life, believing more that his life was mere illusion.

If I am sealed of using magic then who sealed it?

What is the origin of my eyes?

Who was truly this clocked man?

How can someone change his natural born core?

Lots of thoughts flashed through Luther's mind, he wanted to seek answers for the all of them, but his main gole was to find a way to break the seal.

He intended to explore the decaying land again tomorrow and try to see a way to break the seal, He burned the papers and went to his bed sinking into deep slumber.

.....

When he woke up، his sister has already left for work, if it wasn't for the 'special incident' yesterday he would lazy around all day since all lectures are over and only exams left next week, despite that this incident forced him to wake up 6 a.m. on a Friday morning.

He propped himself off the bed using both hands and went straight to the kitchen, he wasn't in a hurry to go back to the decaying land but sought the kitchen for breakfast, he entered the kitchen with impulsiveness, in no time he discovered a huge problem: his sister didn't prepare breakfast for him!.

"Come on sis! ".

He just made dinner yesterday and today was supposed to be his reclining day, shouldn't his sister take care of him more often, make him a delicious breakfast, maybe do him a massage or serve him, he owes a throne and an antire space that cannot be underestimated!.

Dear sis how about paying some kind of attention to this fellow here, or maybe in her tone 'stupid brother' or 'brat' , would it be too much?, seriously speaking I am more like an emperor now I need more attention, oh, I am going to enjoy this! wait until you return I'll give you a warm greating, yearning for revenge, he planned to settle the score between him and his sister.

Luther eyes scanned the kitchen looking for the egg basket, he found it sitting on the middle shelf of the lader, he took two eggs and then took a frying ban from the dresser and lite the stove, he added a few drops of oil.

Luther shifted his focus to the larder shelves. He reached for the coffee beans and, using a grinder, ground them while the omelet was frying. With practiced ease, he set the kettle on the stove. As the water began to heat, he reached for the percolator and placed it on the stove.

He filled the bottom chamber of the percolator with water, then added the freshly ground coffee to the middle chamber. As the percolator started to bubble, he took a moment to prepare some bread. Slicing a loaf of crusty bread, he slathered generous pats of butter onto each slice.

The aroma of the frying omelet mingled with the rich scent of brewing coffee, creating a comforting atmosphere in the kitchen. Luther checked the percolator, ensuring the water was being properly forced through the coffee grounds. Once the percolating slowed, he removed the pot from the stove, allowing it to sit for a moment.

He carefully poured the steaming coffee through a muslin cloth into a waiting carafe, filtering out any stray grounds. Pouring himself a cup, he added a touch of sugar and a splash of milk, stirring it slowly.

Luther plated the omelet, its golden edges crisp and inviting, and placed it next to the buttered bread on a simple ceramic plate. Sitting down at the worn wooden table, he took a sip of the robust coffee, the bitter flavor perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the sugar and the creaminess of the milk. He savored the moment of peace before his day truly began.

Suddenly, his intuition was triggered, he felt a an overwhelming pressure as if his breath was cut off from him, his back was drenched in sweat, he barely kept himself from freaking out from the intensity of the pressure.

Following his intuition, He slowly shifted his gaze to the window, afraid that a fast reflex would trigger a bad outcome.

He saw a white fluffy-haired cat, her blue eyes pierced right through his soul, it stood there for a whole two minutes and then she jumped off the window....
