"Of course, I will," I said with authority in my voice. "I can take you there now, but you have three seconds to decide."
"What!" he replied skeptically.
"One, two, thr-" I started counting, but he interrupted me with a loud "yes." With that, I secured a good score for myself. Now, I will aim for the best and perfect score, laughing maniacally in my head.
"Follow me," I commanded.
I disliked how he entertained the thought of killing me, but maybe all special subjects do that. My senior had warned me to be cautious of any subject with such thoughts and to respond brutally immediately. Even those who used less brutal methods supported this action, as it ensured there were no accidents that could lead to my death.
"You won't receive assistance from the adults. While the test is ongoing, any individual who entertains such thoughts is considered dangerous. This doesn't imply that they are all harmless, but the difference is minimal.
If you perish before gathering information, your death holds no value. If the subject dies before you can extract information, you fail, as it means you have eliminated a valuable source of information without reason.
Not obtaining information is unfavorable, but as long as you inform another person, even if you die or fail to obtain it at that time, you or others can attempt again. However, if the source of information is killed, it is the most severe action possible."
These thoughts distracted my mind momentarily. I realized that we hadn't even left the hall, and walking would take too long. Additionally, he is probably much slower than me.
I paused and instructed him to close his eyes. Confused, he complied nonetheless. In that moment, I vanished and reappeared in front of his face. A single punch was all it took to render him unconscious, and so I did.
…
My eyes open instantly. As I look to the side, I see my starter resting by the wall, and I calm down a bit. We are in a corridor that seems more like a tunnel. I can see light at the end, which Might be our destination. Did she knock me out? Did I suddenly faint? Or did an adult knock me out?
The last possibility terrifies me as I quickly scan my surroundings. Looking behind me, I see nothing but darkness. The darkness intensifies my fear, especially considering it may be the last possibility and the result of my foolish thought to assault the child. Who knows if an adult might emerge from the darkness?
"Tch."
"Uh," did I just hear that sound coming from the starter? I keep my gaze on her for a few seconds before turning around. She appears to be fast asleep. Is it wise considering a free special subject is only a meter or two away from you.
"Ohh, you're awake."
The sudden words nearly sent my soul out of my body, causing me to jump to my feet, on high alert, with my back against the wall.
"Good, follow me and remember our deal," she says calmly, standing up and walking towards the light at the end of the corridor.
