Chereads / My Phantom System / Chapter 4 - Three eyed spirit fox

Chapter 4 - Three eyed spirit fox

At the edge of a savanna, a body lay on the grass not moving a bit. Then abruptly, those fine eyelids fluttered and opened.

His vision was slightly blurry at first as he tried to grasp his surroundings. His clothes were torn and unkempt. His disheveled dark long hair hung loosely over his face. His shoes made from straws were torn, evidence of poverty.

The chirping of insects and the rustling of leaves seemed so clear to him. His vision gradually brightened that he could even see the tiniest of insects on the floor.

His mind was vague. He searched his mind for answers to how he got here and what his name is but there was nothing.

As he tried to stand up, a status screen popped into his vision. He dropped back to the floor as the screen was fully displayed.

[User: Arian Brook]

Arian? Is Arian my name? He thought.

"What is this? Is my name Arian? I can't even remember anything. Do I have a status system in my brain?" The boy said to himself. He was still unable to grasp his surroundings and how he got here and now this!!

"Run! It has gone beserk!!"

Arian suddenly heard a scared voice scream from the heart of the savanna.

The thick and quick rustling of leaves signalled there was someone coming, coupled with the heavy quakes from strong muscular feet. There is danger.

Arian quickly stood up to be sure of what was happening as he was still unsure of himself. A group of men ran past him while few stayed behind and cast balls of fire from their palms at the direction where the heavy footfalls kept approaching from.

"Woah..." Instead Arian stood back and watched as the men cast fire balls.

When they could no longer put up with the quick approach, the mages took to their heels.

"These three eyed spirit fox are the most dangerous of the fox species, humph!"

"Of course! They are advanced level monsters!"

Arian still stood transfixed, marveled at the way the mages swiftly cast their fire balls.

"You fool! You won't run to the safety zone before its too late!" One of the merchants barked at Arian.

"What can a basic mage like him with no monster weapon do to an advanced level monster? He's just courting death! Humph!"

"I wonder what he's doing in the orange zone."

A massive bloodthirsty red fox appeared from the forest at a fast pace, breaking trees like twigs. It was a gigantic fox with three eyes, two at the two sides of it's head and the other one at the centre of its forehead. There were two horns on its head. It has a spiky tail which serves as it's combat weapon.

Arian's heart skipped. "F*ck me!" He took to his heels after the mages.

"What are these things?" Arian asked through ragged breaths when he caught up to the last mage.

"How do you not know these advanced level monsters while you came here? Were you not taught in school? They are the most common and trickiest magic monster to deal with!"

They avoided the branches on their paths.

"They are very huge, can't you kill it?" Arian asked. Seeing the mages cast those fire balls from their palms marvelled him. He truly admired such power.

"Our mages have used up their energy in our hunting expedition. We only have the option to run to safety."

Arian increased his pace when he felt the creature was almost close. Unfortunately, he slipped against a stone and fell.

"Save yourself boy!" The man screamed without stopping. "Its a survival game. You have to save yourself."

[Kill the three eyed spirit fox]

[Reward: New skill]

He saw the system words floating around in his vision.

"What the f*ck! How do I f*cking kill this creature?" Arian screamed as he tried to stand up. Before he could regain his balance, the three eyed spirit fox caught up to him.

He quickly wiggled between its paws and slipped to it's back. The three eyed spirit fox quickly stopped in its track and turned to Arian. It snarled and began to sprint towards him.

"Oh no! What do I do?"

Arian quickly took another direction avoiding the falling trees and snapping branches from the creature's stomps. He kept running without looking back.

His leg hit against a metal hidden under the grass when he was almost at a dead end. It was a long thin sword that had rust on its edges. "Guess this is my lucky day." He quickly picked the sword. "How do I use this? I should try stabbing it."

He slid down the slope and stopped at it's foot with the sword gripped firmly in both of his hands. The three eyed spirit fox approached and he charged in with the sword pointing forward.

He struck the three eyed spirit fox's right foot with the sword and the sound of metal against metal rung through the air. Not a single scratch appeared on the three eyed spirit fox's foot. Almost as if he had done nothing. He had no idea that he was supposed to attack the creature's weak point.

"What is this? How am I supposed to kill this thing if I can't even cut it with this sword!" Arian wore a pained expression.

The three eyed spirit fox turned and snarled at Arian who was lost at what to do. It opened it's mouth and fired red spikes at Arian in retaliation.

Arian rolled on the floor, narrowly escaping the spikes that approached him like rain.

He made a sharp turn and began to run again, this time with so much effort as the three eyed spirit fox howled and came after him.

Another howl sounded in the heart of the savanna. Another three eyed spirit fox was nearby.
