Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Aigis Academy

Ten years later...

Aigis Academy was one of the top three mage academies in Elevor City, out of the three, it was number one because of the number of powerful knights the academy has been able to produce over the past five years since this apocalyptic war began.

While Elevor had the top mage academy, their neighboring city, Elmor had the top pure mage academy, this was one of the greatest symbols of their rivalry.

Aigis was a very large academy with huge buildings and a good number of students.

One of the most notable sites of the academy was the huge arena which was situated close to the academic block away from their dormitories.

The arena in the academy served a lot of purposes and one of those purposes was a place for students who wanted to spar with an audience could go.

Right now one of those spars was going on and there sure were a lot of students in the stands.

Well, that was expected given the fact that this was a fight between the first and second-ranked second-year students, the only level fives in their class.

A student with bright blonde hair with both of his fists joined together in a boxing pose to reveal the silver-colored gauntlet he had on.

While he had a serious look on his face with his heartbeat slowly getting faster with excitement, his opponent, a student with short black hair and a subtle-looking face seemed to be quite calm with his right hand in his pocket.

Fighting against another level five you would expect him to have a weapon in his hand but that wasn't the case.

They were both waiting for the signal or rather the blonde-haired student who happened to be Arsha was waiting for the signal.

It didn't take long before a loud gong sound resounded through the area, and at that moment, he quickly pushed himself forward with a little bit of firepower to get to his opponent.

"You're going down this time!" He yelled before aiming straight for his face with his right hand.

Just before his fist could get to him, a strong blast of fire blasted straight toward him, and before anyone knew it, the student was covered.

It was a very large burst of flames that consumed the student and even stretched to the other side of the wall.

Some people would think that it was all for show but those on that side felt the heat of the flames, and it was no joke.

"Is that guy going to be okay?"

"Does he really need to use that much power for a spar?"

"Was he trying to kill him?"

"How can that guy just stand there and take all those flames?"

The ones asking these questions were the first-year students who had just joined the academy this semester.

This was their first time seeing these two fight so those questions were bound to come up.

However, for those who were there last year and two years ago, the fight had happened a lot of times that they could tell how it was going to end but they still came to watch the fight today hoping that something would be different.

It was safe to say that the expectation they forced onto themselves was completely shattered.

As the smoke created by the blast of flame cleared out, Arsha could be seen with his left knee on the floor and his right hand on his chest.

He was breathing quite heavily with his gaze on the floor.

While he was down on one knee, his opponent could be seen standing a little distance away from him.

Judging from the little smoke being emitted from his body, that blast of flame did hit him and even managed to push him that far but other than that, he was quite okay.

The reaction from the first-year students was one of immense shock but a few of them were able to figure it out.

"Oh, so he has body reinforcement ability, that's quite impressive, but given that they're the same level, I expected that to do him some damage."

"Yeah, it's like that other guy is a level below him even with that impressive flame attack and why is he on the floor, is his mana already depleted?"

While the other students were busy talking about the fight, a certain silver-haired first-year student had her gaze on Arsha.

'So, that's him, the low mana double elemental mage.'

Arsha's opponent having body reinforcement alone wouldn't be able to explain his clothes surviving a fire attack like that, but there was a simple explanation for that.

That was the fact that he could sync his reinforcement ability to anything he came into physical contact with and that very much included his clothes.

With the fight now over, he slowly walked closer to Arsha until he was standing in front of him.

His mana getting depleted just after one attack was a result of him putting all of them into one attack with the hope of taking his armor down.

If that had worked then his opponent might have suffered some serious damage.

"It looks like I win again, ready to give it up now?" The student remarked sounding a bit disinterested.

"Not on your life." Arsha scoffed before raising his gaze to look him in the eye. "I'm coming back next month."

After hearing him say that, a smile suddenly appeared on the dark-haired student's face.

"I knew you were going to say that. Well, then, see you here next month but it's not going to be easy." He said before he turned and began to walk away.

"I know," Arsha muttered before letting out a deep sigh. "Looks like putting all my mana into one attack was a no-go too, if my mana didn't run out so quickly, putting all my mana into one attack would produce a bigger result than that."

The student with the body reinforcement ability was a student who went by the name Preston Norton and he was the first-ranked second-year student in the academy being one of the only two level-five students in the class.

The student who just lost to him was Arsha Logan, the student who was right behind him in second place being the second and last level five in the class.

He was ranked second despite having double elemental abilities but that was nothing new in this academy.

Using up all his mana in one go meant that Arsha was unable to move for a while, so he just sat there and listened to what the first-year students had to say about him.

A normal person wouldn't be able to hear what they were whispering from where he was sitting, but he had a very sharp and sensitive ear.

"How low does he mana have to be for him to get worn out after one attack?"

"For real, this guy has to be some kind of scam."

"How did he even become the second-ranked in his class talk more of becoming a level five?"

To that question, Arsha couldn't help but let out a sigh.

"Sometimes I even ask myself that question, but saying I don't know the answer to that, would be lying to myself." He muttered before turning his gaze to his hands which were still covered by his gauntlets.
