Chapter 52 - Death Race (Part 1)

The driver of the Humvee had been changed; Shen Yi took over the driving duties, with Wen Rou beside him, guiding the direction.

"Break off the road here, then head southwest, angle at 25 degrees!" Wen Rou instructed.

They were lucky to have a high-tech map that could pinpoint their exact location in real-time; otherwise, Wen Rou would have struggled to navigate the distances and directions.

"Just tell me left or right, not east or west!" Shen Yi shouted.

"Left!" Wen Rou responded loudly.

Shen Yi pressed the gas pedal, and the Humvee violently crashed through the road's guardrail, entering an open field beside the road.

Though the Humvee couldn't match the speed of the red sports car, it made up for it with its stable performance and sturdy build, capable of freely traversing various terrains.

Shen Yi drove the Humvee like a mad bull in its final charge, plowing straight into a residential house, collapsing the entire building, and rolling over it.

From an aerial view, the Humvee looked like a massive bulldozer diligently carrying out demolition work. Shen Yi was efficient and forceful, demolishing dozens of houses in a minute, creating an artificial road through the residential area, leaving a thick black line on the map.

Ahead of this line was New York's busiest district, with towering buildings, numerous vehicles, and countless pedestrians.

"In 200 meters, we'll enter Habby Central Square. We have to pass through there to reach the next road. Be careful, there are many people there," Wen Rou warned, looking back at the long trail of destruction. Dozens of residents emerging from the rubble were cursing at them, and some had already started chasing them in their cars.

"Hong Lang!" Shen Yi yelled, "Open fire and scare everyone off!"

"Got it!" Hong Lang, holding a machine gun, popped out of the sunroof and began firing at the pursuers.

"Shoot ahead!" Shen Yi said irritably, "I asked you to clear the way, why worry about those behind us?"

"Oh!" Realizing his mistake, Hong Lang turned the gun forward.

The Humvee roared into Habby Central Square.

This place used to be a bustling area in the Brooklyn District, surrounded by seven or eight large shopping malls. Fortunately, internal strife had left New York desolate, and Habby Central Square was no longer as crowded as before.

When the Humvee stormed into the square, Hong Lang desperately sprayed bullets at the ground, shouting wildly, "Get out of the way! This is a robbery!"

Battle-hardened citizens scattered to both sides. A man who had just jumped onto a flower bed saw the Humvee charging straight at him. He screamed in terror, feeling a sudden tightness around his waist as a long whip wrapped around him and flung him into the air.

Wen Rou flicked her wrist, and the man fell behind the vehicle. She poked her head out of the window, smiling sweetly, "No need to thank me."

"I damn well wasn't planning to thank you!" the man yelled back.

The Humvee rampaged across the central square, and Wen Rou ducked back in, grabbing the map and instructing, "There's a mall ahead; we have to drive through it."

"Piece of cake," Shen Yi replied, shifting gears effortlessly.

Jin Gang yelled from the back, "Why do I feel like we're shooting an American blockbuster?"

Hong Lang laughed, "Just missing a camera, just missing a camera! This is too thrilling!"

As Hong Lang cheered, the Humvee crashed into the mall, breaking through the glass curtain wall and wildly driving along the mall's corridors. Glass shards flew everywhere, cutting Hong Lang's face, but he remained undeterred. To an adventurer like him, such injuries were trivial.

Screams and panic filled the air as pedestrians scrambled to get out of the way.

"Twenty meters ahead, turn left!" Wen Rou called out.

Shen Yi swiftly turned the steering wheel, and the Humvee crashed into a fashion store, sending colorful streamers flying. It roared out of the mall.

Wen Rou grabbed a woman's long dress, "I've always wanted to shop in New York." Flipping the tag, she pouted disappointingly, "Made in China."

Having exited the mall, the Humvee found itself back on the road. Police cars were wailing in pursuit, and a helicopter was approaching in the distance.

"Damn it, when did New York's police become so efficient?" Hong Lang cursed.

"In times of war, efficiency is priority," Shen Yi coldly replied. "I admit I underestimated them, but they're still no match for us."

"So, what now?"

"Take down that helicopter."

"Why not hijack it?" Hong Lang asked.

"Who knows how to fly it?" Shen Yi

 retorted.

Hong Lang immediately shut his mouth. After thinking for a bit, he said, "I'll take it down."

"No! Using a gun is not intimidating enough. To truly instill fear, we need something more challenging," Shen Yi said with a smile.

Shen Yi swiftly shifted gears, steering the Humvee towards a tall building. In America, most malls have circular driveways that go from the first floor to the rooftop, each level being a parking lot.

Shen Yi raced up the circular driveway, reaching the rooftop. The police helicopter, hovering just above the rooftop, began to speak through a loudspeaker, "Immediately drop your weapons! You are..."

Before the policeman could finish, Shen Yi floored the accelerator. The Humvee roared across the rooftop, charging straight towards the helicopter.

The shouting policeman swallowed his words in shock, screaming at the helicopter pilot, "Climb higher! Climb higher!"

But it was too late!

Shen Yi drove the Humvee like a shooting star, leaping from the rooftop, soaring over the helicopter. The rear crash bar of the vehicle struck the helicopter's rotor, sending sparks flying. The helicopter's rotors twisted and stalled, and the powerless machine plummeted downwards, its passengers screaming in terror.

However, the airborne Humvee, unbalanced by the impact, seemed unable to reach the opposite building. "Jin Gang!" Shen Yi called out.

With a begrudging response, Jin Gang said, "I knew you were counting on me."

Activating his telekinesis, the Humvee in the air charged towards the opposite building, breaking through the sky. Controlling such a large vehicle was strenuous for Jin Gang, but fortunately, the Humvee's own gravitational acceleration helped. He just needed to add a push, unlike stopping a falling shell, which required more energy to counteract its momentum.

Still, the Humvee couldn't make it to the rooftop of the other building and instead crashed into the middle section's glass curtain wall.

In an office, a man in a suit was on the phone, "Hey, honey, trust me, this is a big deal. Once it's settled, we can move into a duplex apartment. Yes, a duplex... What? War? No, no, trust me, it's safe here, no war, no mutants... Oh my God, what am I seeing! A car flying in the sky..."

Terrified, the man watched the Humvee whizzing towards him, narrowly missing his head and crashing into the building, burying him in a shower of glass shards. Still on the phone, he screamed, "War! Total war!"

With a loud crash, the Humvee broke through a wall and stopped. The tremulous Fatty couldn't handle it anymore and vomited all over Hong Lang's clothes, infuriating him.

"What's the route now?" Shen Yi asked Wen Rou.

"Do you think you can drive down the stairs?" Wen Rou replied hopelessly.

"No need for that," Shen Yi said, scanning the surroundings. His eyes lit up.

Not far away was a large freight elevator.

The Humvee drove into the elevator under the stunned gaze of the building's occupants. Wen Rou elegantly pressed the elevator button, and they descended.

On the first floor, a manager was scolding workers, "Be gentle when putting those down, that office equipment is worth millions of dollars!"

As the freight elevator doors opened, the Humvee thundered out, plowing through the office equipment waiting for the elevator and breaking through the main entrance, roaring away.

Behind them, countless people stared in dumbfounded silence at the receding cloud of dust.

One of the workers asked the manager, "Sir, should we file a claim against them?"

The Humvee was back on the road, with police cars still in hot pursuit. The loss of the helicopter had chilled all New York police officers. The wailing of sirens continued, but their pursuit had visibly slowed.

"There's no road ahead!" Hong Lang, standing, had the farthest view and shouted, "There's a big construction site there!"

"That's not on the map," Wen Rou replied, exasperated.

"How do we proceed?" Shen Yi asked Wen Rou. "You have ten seconds."

"There's a car wash to the right, can you get through it?"

"I have to," Shen Yi said, almost maniacally switching gears and adjusting the direction. The car wash loomed larger and larger.

The cars waiting to be washed were lined up in two long rows.

Hong Lang quickly sat back down and buckled his seatbelt.

The Humvee charged into the parking lot with thunderous force, launching into the air off a ramp and crashing down onto two cars before rolling over others. Dozens of car tires burst, windows shattered like a chain of explosions, raining glass everywhere. The roofs of the cars were completely wrecked. Fortunately, most of the people inside were unharmed.

The Humvee plunged into the car wash, accompanied by a series of crashing and smashing sounds.

When the Humvee emerged, its roof was completely gone, turning it into a convertible. Although everyone inside was covered in dust and dirt, there was an uncontrollable sense of joy on their faces.

The convertible Humvee quickly got on the highway and sped forward.

As for the police cars, they had been left far behind.

At this point, they could finally have a moment of peace.

Everyone sighed in relief.

Jin Gang patted Shen Yi's shoulder and laughed heartily, "I gotta say, kid, you drive like a madman! Have you ever been in a car chase before?"

"Before entering the Bloody City, I had planned a car escape but eventually gave up," Shen Yi replied.

"Why did you give up?" Wen Rou asked.

Shen Yi replied seriously, "Because there are just too many toll booths on Chinese highways."

Jin Gang and Wen Rou burst into laughter at this.

Meanwhile, Hong Lang glared fiercely at Fatty, pointing at the filth on his clothes and angrily demanding, "Clean this mess up!"

Wen Rou casually handed over the woman's long dress she had grabbed earlier, "If you need to change, I have this."
