At this moment, the sky was filled with the fiery light of anti-aircraft guns. Tracer bullets streaked across the sky, turning the night into day. Countless cannons fired simultaneously into the heavens, accompanied by thunderous roars. The sky lit up like festival fireworks, creating dazzling, haphazard colors as British planes were hit and exploded midair.
"Boom!" A massive explosion sounded close to the transport plane, tossing it around like a leaf in autumn wind. The aircraft tumbled through the air, nearly colliding with another plane. A group of people fell from the plane, screaming in terror.
The door of the transport plane's jump bay had been open for a while, but no one expected the first ones to exit the plane would do so in such a manner.
"Jump now!" Shen Yi bellowed.
Everyone knew the journey from air to ground was short but fraught with danger. However, no one expected the city to announce it in such a way.
Those who hadn't fallen out of the plane rushed towards the door, leaping into the air. Allied paratroopers filled the sky, their white parachutes like floating jellyfish.
Anti-aircraft machine guns on the ground spewed fire madly, drawing long lines of light in the sky. Paratroopers were torn to shreds by the relentless barrage, their blood and flesh scattering in the air.
On the C-47 transport plane, a chubby man trembled as he inched towards the door. He was now the last one, aside from Shen Yi, who hadn't jumped. Watching the ground and air erupt in gunfire, and fellow adventurers and paratroopers becoming live targets for the Germans, he was completely paralyzed with fear.
"Would you hurry up and jump!" Shen Yi shouted.
The chubby man shivered in terror: "I... I can't... I'm scared..."
"Damn it, I don't understand how you passed the newcomer's trial!" Shen Yi cursed in frustration.
As the barrage intensified, pilots had been ordered to return to base after deploying all paratroopers. The C-47 began to turn away. If they didn't jump now, Shen Yi and the chubby man would either be shot down or taken back to the Allied airfield.
Neither outcome was acceptable to Shen Yi.
With a fierce kick, he sent the chubby man out of the plane: "Go!"
The man screamed as he fell, his fear robbing him of courage but not his senses. The next moment, a huge white lotus bloomed in the air, followed by the chubby man's excited shouts: "I opened it, I opened it!"
"Damn, not too confused to act," Shen Yi cursed with a laugh, leaping into the sky.
Just as he exited the plane, he heard a massive explosion behind him. The C-47 burst into a fiery blaze, plummeting towards the earth. Burning debris brushed past Shen Yi, landing on other paratroopers still in the air and igniting their parachutes. Paratroopers screamed in terror as they plummeted towards the ground without their chutes.
The sky was ablaze. Shen Yi had no chance to open his parachute, plummeting rapidly, with countless debris following him.
He couldn't open it. If he did, the parachute would catch fire, sealing his fate.
Shen Yi tumbled through the air, focusing intently on the falling debris. He raised his spirit fire gun and fired at the sky above.
Bullet after bullet hit the falling debris, scattering it in different directions. The wind howled past his ears, but Shen Yi's eyes saw nothing but the debris, forgetting death, height, time, and his own rapid descent. His fierce firing sent shrapnel flying, accelerating his fall, but the threat to his parachute diminished. His expertise in firearms allowed him to accurately target moving objects, and the burning wreckage made finding his targets in the air easy.
Seeing no more threats to his parachute above, Shen Yi finally pulled his chute. He felt a sudden jolt as his rapid descent halted, and he floated upwards from the force of the deployment.
He was still over 100 meters from the ground.
As he neared the ground, the anti-aircraft gunfire intensified.
German soldiers also fired into the sky. As he entered lower altitudes, though free from the anti-aircraft guns, the rain of bullets posed an even greater threat. His body flickered with white light several times as bullets struck him, but his bulletproof jade pendant protected him from injury.
With a scream, Shen Yi heard someone above him get hit.
A paratrooper, unfortunately riddled with bullets from the anti-aircraft gun, drifted past Shen Yi. His parachute, now with several holes, descended rapidly, dragging the body of an adventurer.
Witnessing the rapidly falling corpse and the chaotic dance of tracer bullets in the sky, Shen Yi had a thought.
For paratroopers, the sooner they landed, the safer they would be. It was certainly better than being a sitting duck in the air, unable to retaliate. Even with a bulletproof jade pendant, a barrage from an anti-aircraft gun would likely mean certain death.
Shen Yi didn't like to leave his life to chance, especially in such dire circumstances.
He suddenly pulled out a pistol from his Bloody Emblem, the same inexpensive weapon the young man had once advised him to discard.
Raising the pistol, he shot his own parachute.
Fortunately, he had kept this beginner's pistol. If he had used the Spirit Fire Gun, the shot would have ignited the parachute.
The parachute, now with a bullet hole, tore further under the force of the wind, increasing his descent speed dramatically. No longer floating down, Shen Yi plummeted almost straight down, fixating on the ground.
Eighty meters.
Seventy meters.
Sixty meters.
Fifty meters.
Nearby, there was a house. As Shen Yi continued to fall, he crashed through the roof with a loud bang.
Bang!
Landing inside, Shen Yi rolled to dissipate the force of impact and sat up on the ground.
A gunshot rang out, a bullet grazing past his scalp. Without looking back, Shen Yi returned fire, hitting the German soldier at the door in the head.
Fortunately, it was just one soldier.
Shen Yi slowly stood up, hearing a chime from his Bloody Emblem: "First main mission completed, reward: 500 Bloody Points."
"Earning these 500 points really wasn't easy," Shen Yi muttered to himself.
