After dinner was concluded, Dante was the first to storm out of the room, followed by Angelo, who was looking at his phone with a serious expression. I went to grab my plate to bring it to the kitchen when Florence stopped me.
"Don't worry about that, darling. The maids will take care of it." She smiled at me. I nodded as I saw four maids quickly enter the dining room.
"Come on, Rebel, we'll give you a tour of this lovely abode," Isa said as she grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the dining room, Natalia following closely behind.
We walked for what seemed like hours. The twins showed me every wing of the mansion. The Vino family resided in the West Wing. The North Wing contained offices and conference rooms while the most influential members of the Mafia lived in the East Wing, roughly eighty or so men and women. The South Wing is where the recreational rooms are: movie room, arcade, indoor pools, bars, etc.
"So Rebel, you never told us why you were here. Not that we're complaining or anything," Natalia said, adjusting her question to sound more polite. We were now outside, where they were showing me a maze of elaborate gardens and courtyards.
"Yeah, what's the deal?" Isa asked as she looked at me over her shoulder. Both of the twins walking at a steady pace in front of me.
"Giana brought me here to work for the Mafia for a year," I said calmly as I examined the array of colorful flowers. As soon as those words left my mouth, the twins both immediately stopped walking.
"Wait, you're the hacker?" Natalia asked, her voice low. "The one that stole $5 million from our account?" Isa asked, her tone matching her sister.
"Yup," I said in a bored tone. My eyes still examining the lush garden surrounding me.
The twins looked at each other for a moment, a bright smile beaming on their faces. Before I knew it, I was tackled to the ground by both of them, pink hair clouding my vision. Their skinny arms wrapped around me, sending us all hurling towards the pavers beneath us. I groaned as my back made contact with the cool stone walkway.
"Well, this isn't how I expected to die. At least there's flowers around me, so that's nice."
"Oh my god, you are such a badass!" Natalia screamed as she propped herself up on her arm.
"Seriously, you've got some palle girl!" Isa laughed as she rolled off of me and onto her back.
"This is going to be so amazing! I can already tell we're going to be best friends!" Natalia said as she hugged me.
Best...friends? I've never had a friend before... how does this work?
"Way better than what we imagined," Isa said, sitting up rapidly and smiling at me as Natalia let me out of her chokehold of a grip.
"Care to explain why I was just tackled in the middle of a garden?" I said slowly sitting up and rubbing my stiff neck.
"Sorry, we just got excited. It was meant to be a hug but it escalated rather quickly," Natalia laughed as she stood up.
"Wait... you two aren't mad at what I did?" I asked confused. My head took a hard hit against the floor, and them being twins isn't helping my double vision.
"Fuck no," they said in unison. "Gigi told us that some hacker would be staying here, and sent us shopping to fill your closet. We expected you to be all anti-social and nerdy," Isa said as she stood up and offered a hand to help me up.
"No offense," Natalia added in quickly, holding her hands up in surrender.
"But you're way better than what we thought. You're cool as fuck, and we're just excited to have a girl our age around that isn't a complete and total bitch or a psychopath," Isa continued to explain as she helped me up.
"Being born into a Mafia family hasn't allowed us to make many friends. Most people can't handle the lifestyle," Isa continued, her tone turning slightly somber. "We've never had any girlfriends; it's always just been Natalia and me."
"If you two promise not to tackle me, I think we'll get along just fine," I said laughing. The twins both linked arms with me as we continued walking.
As we walked through the garden, the twins told me about their lives growing up. They were homeschooled and stayed indoors for most of their childhood to avoid having their names on the recurring death threats that plagued their family. Since they were constantly indoors, they found ways to keep themselves entertained.
Apparently, they were little hellions as children, always finding ways to make homemade bombs. As a form of rebellion, they would blow up different parts of the house as jokes. Surprisingly enough, they were both active members of the Mafia, both specializing in explosives and weaponry. They were crazy pink-haired pyromaniacs, but I enjoyed hearing their stories, especially the one where they blew up Dante's bathtub while he was sleeping in the middle of the night.
Realizing that we've been talking for hours, we started to make our way back to the mansion. As we were walking into the living room, Dante was sitting on the couch, awaiting our arrival. One ankle was resting on his knee, his arm resting on the armrest. He was running a hand through his dirty blonde hair with a scowl on his face.
I was thrown out of my thoughts by the sounds of shuffling outside my door. I walked closer to the door to hear faint whispers from more than one person. The doorknob jiggled slightly...Someone was trying to get it. I cautiously grabbed my makeshift lock pick from the desk drawer and hesitantly unlocked the door.
I swung it open to reveal the twins, who were attaching what looked like small explosives to the hinges of the doors. The wide-eyed twins both stopped mid-movement. Isa was on her toes to reach the top hinge while Natalia was sitting on the floor attaching a wire to the explosive on the bottom hinge.
"What are you two up to?" I laughed, taking in the scene before me. The twins looked like a pair of mad scientists. Natalia was wearing a silk long-sleeve collared shirt and pants, all pink of course, while Isa wore a black tank top and grey joggers.
"We came to secretly break you out of here," Isa said smiling widely.
"By blowing my door off the hinges? Very discrete," I said smirking, looking up at their explosives attached to my door.
"That and we wanted to make sure Dante didn't kill our new friend," Natalia said as she dusted off her silk pink pajamas.
The twins quickly gathered their equipment and scurried into my room, laying the explosives on the coffee table in the corner of my bedroom.
"I can't believe our idiot brother really locked you in your room," Natalia said annoyed as she flopped onto my bed.
"What a prick," Isa added as she sat on the chair in the corner.
"Agreed," Natalia and I said in unison.
"Why don't we even out the score?" I said after a moment of contemplation.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Natalia said, sitting up.
"Fuck yes I am!" Isa exclaimed, standing up from the plush chair. They looked at me with mischievous looks on their faces before standing up and quickly walking towards the door.
"You coming?" Natalia asked as she turned around and looked at me with a wide smile on her face. I simply nodded, feeling grateful to call these insane bombers my friends.
