Being choked after reincarnation wasn't on my to-do list at all. I conjured up envelope energy in my hand a cut across the vampire's hand but it still held me tight. Vampires usually were afraid of the sun and burnt in its Prescence but something was different about these guys. That's when I remembered something from the back of my dumb brain.
Something I wasn't supposed to forget but was made to. In my previous life, I was in love with a vampire and this was way before my marriage with my fiancée was made public. The vampire's name was Calibria. She was a pseudo-vampire so she was unaffected by the sun and she also travelled with me everywhere. I gave her regular doses of my blood and eventually I fell in love with her. As opposed to that she was, I finally managed to start dating her. We spent a lot of time together but then one of the great disasters of the demon kingdom began. War had broken out and all vampires were told to return back to the demon kingdom.
And I had to see her leave with tears in our eyes. By that time, she was pregnant with my child, but orders from the patriarch of the demon family were absolute and defiance was considered equal to treason so she had to leave. I still remember her green eyes, luscious maroon hair with her blue earrings. Her clean white fangs and the tattoo of a bat hanging from a tree on her neck.
But the female vampire currently choking me also had her similarities. Those same green eyes and maroon hair, one of the blue lapis earrings she wore. She resembles her too much but in the nick of time a single word came out of my mouth "Calibria?" and the moment I took her name, the vampires hand tightened and then she let go of me. I didn't realize but by then many of the vampires had gone inside except a few while the werewolves stood watching this scene like there was a drama going on.
"HOW?!! How do you know that name? tell me this instant demon." I had to recatch my breath for a moment. I sat there on the ground with one leg flat on the ground while the other straight and resting my hand on my legs. I said "Calibria was an old friend." Her eyes shone and it resembled that of a cat. I realized that it was truth magic that was used by ancient assassins in interrogation, the 'cat eyes of truth'. Don't ask me how cats are related to the truth but it is what it was called. I was more certain about this idea that was looming inside my head as I called another name now.
"Mertiana?" and she did react to that name. she stepped back. "I had forsaken that cursed name. Mertiana Epitaph, the name my mother gave me." She seemed to have calmed down and finally the bartender werewolf on the stage stood up from his throne/ chair and headed down. He locked eyes with me and I understood what it was. Wolves were beings who lived in packs and those that had some relation to the pack had a thin line tying each other like a thread of destiny and relation. Werewolves had the ability to see said threads and could track evil beings and their underlings.
Werewolf then said to the vampire "He is related to you, Angie. How is that even possible. I see the thread between the two of you but it makes no sense. It's the blood thread symbolizing family and my eyes do not lie." But first let's go inside. Its already high noon and any more reaction with the sun will leave you heavily injured my love".
He carried her. Apparently, she didn't have absolute immunity to the sun so she fainted in the bartender's arms. Before carrying her inside, he covered her in his gray coat which kinda merged with his own gray skin but on Mertiana it was quite contrasting. Before leaving he pointed to one of the houses in the village and said "take rest there, we won't harm you unless you decided to take action first and I promise this in the name of Riot Wolborg." And he left.
I went to the house which was sufficient for a single person to stay. But my mind was still jumbled. Riot Wolborg was the name of the ancestor of werewolves who had insane beef with Dionesium. Something had happened for both these species to be together like this. Then I thought of Calibria. Her sweet smile and her hair that stood out among vampires. Then I thought of our daughter Mertiana Epitaph. I had decided to name her that in my previous life and I never thought Calibria would actually do that since Mertiana was born in the demon kingdom so I never was able to see her.
A single tear streamed down my face so I drank some water to control myself. If you're wondering about the Epitaph part, yes that was the family name given to me and my elder brother in my last life. We carried that name to the peak of the world only to be taken down. There were a lot of things that happened behind our backs leading to our downfall and I didn't know all of them. Now the news that my daughter from my previous life had managed to stay alive had left me with a bunch of mixed emotions.
Vampires usually lived long lives but not as long as elves. Elves could live for more than 1000 years while vampires could also live for that long, that's only if the conditions were fortunate enough to let them live that long. For Mertiana to still survive this long would mean that she's already past her teenage in her 20s in terms of human aging.
My mind pretty jumbled with a lot of thoughts, how did Calibria survive, how did Mertiana survive, what's the deal with that wolf calling Mertiana 'my love', what happened after I died in my previous life, what happened to Dionesium and Wolborg, why was a I betrayed and I could go on and on but then Riot entered the room and seeing him in his normal humane form was pretty weird because he still had tufts of hair hear and there.
He said "I believe we haven't properly introduced ourselves yet have we?"
