Chapter 25 - Book 1: Chapter 24: Conditions and Prices

"Why are we waiting?

We have everything we need to make the ruling on this, 2nd Elder."

"Do we have everything? Because I don't, 5th elder Lu. Do you know something that I don't?"

"What are you trying to say, 2nd Elder?"

"You know exactly what I am speaking about, 5th elder Lu. What we do know and what we don't could be the difference from rising like the sun or the downfall like Midnight or Night Clan."

"Why do you always have to make things hard for me and what I am trying to accomplish in this ordeal?"

"That is simply because you never have good intentions. Your plot and schemes are always something else all together."

While all the rest of the elders were looking at the disagreement between the 2nd elder and 5th elder Lu with eyes of entertainment. However, they all heard footsteps coming from the hallway. Seeing the door slowly open up. Everyone was expecting the young matriarch to come in, but it was Kyri. She calmly walked to the seat where the leader of the clan sat.

"Now, since I am here. The meeting can begin."

Kyri had a smudged grin on her face. Knowing these elders want to have meat and leave no soup for the rest. "Why did the young matriarch want to form a new legion without our consent!?!"

"That is a silly question." Kyri let out a small chuckle. "More power, more say over the clan. That simple."

"Do you think we will let that happen, Kyri?"

"4th elder, it has already happened. Both the Midnight and Night clans have all ready expressed their agreement to form this new legion."

Many of the elders were shocked with this information. Some, like 2nd elder, 5th elder Lu, 7th elder, and 1st elder Style Waves, weren't surprised by least. Because they found out a couple of hours before hand. That they wanted to know is how big their piece of the pie they are going to have in this.

"How many of our young talents will be in this new legion, Kyri? And where is the young Matriarch at?"

"1st elder, Style Waves, as you know, Judah is currently recovering as speak. To answer your other question, we could pull the bottom half of our elite group to give them a chance to have more opportunities to grow. In addition, we could use this to get the branch family's top talent in as well. This could kill two birds with one stone."

"Very interesting, Kyri. How much talent will be in this new legion?"

"I am not sure, to my knowledge, of a thousand talents. Judah has the finer details of how many we are sending to the new legion."

"How many are the Night and Midnight clans sending?"

Kyri put up five fingers with a sly grin. "Five hundred from both clans."

Everyone was surprised hearing this news. Because they knew Midnight and Night clan are very stringy about their talents. They are wondering how Judah made that happen, and she employed to convince them in doing so. 5th elder Lu, jump up with greed in his eyes. Looking around and seeing the rest of the elders still stun. He knew it was time to strike.

"If that is the case, Kyri, the elders counsel will take over this matter and make the final decision on the talent and the leader of this new legion."

The other elders were stunned by the bold statement that elder Lu made. The smarter people caught on to what Elder Lu was trying to do and agreed immediately with his suggestions. Kyri, just look at Elder Lu with asumement. Knowing what he was truly after—the control of this newly formed legion.

"What make you think you have a say in this elder Lu?"

A cold laugh came from Kyri. "I see many of you must be thinking that if I can scheme my way into controlling this new legion, not just influence, but my power in the clan will grow."

Many of the elders didn't look into Kyri's eyes. Feeling like they have been seen through. However, some had no shame in letting it be known that was exactly what they were thinking, including elder Lu. While 1st Elder knew there had to be more to this. This did not simply matter either.

"Do you think other clans in this matter don't have the same ideas? You think just because we have more talents in this legion it will be easier? I think not. Warring ideas and personal agendas will make this very difficult to pull off."

" I agree with Kyri. This is not a simple matter at all. What we need to do is gather those talents that meet our requirements to join this new legion. I suggest that we give the branch family and the lower-tier talents the opportunity for this. In addition, we can allocate some spots for a few lower-tier talents from each elder faction. Let say 10 spots."

"Ten spots are too limited!" Elder Lu yelled with fury. He could not stand a limited spot. He wanted more spots for this ambitious.

"No, Elder Lu. There are twelve elders in this counsel. That makes 120 spots taken away from the thousand spots in this new legion. That only leaves 880 spots left for the rest of the clan, branch family, and clans that are under our influence. Those are not a lot of room for how big our clan is and the influence that it wields."

Kyri looks at 1st elder Style Waves and 2nd elder with a knowing look. 'These old foggies know how to scheme and plot to get what they want like a pro. Since we came this far. Might as well push the envelope a little more.'

"From what I heard from Judah, the majority of the talents are low-tier talents that have unique traits that would usually get overlooked because their overall talents aren't that great."

"Even if that is the case, Kyri. We must think about how we can maximize the most out of this situation. Aint that right, 1st elder?"

"I do, and since we are talking about this new legion. How long has the young matriarch thought about this?"

"I have no ideal. What I do know is that this is going to be bigger than we know. There is something more in play than we know."

"What do you mean, Kyri?" The first elder frowns when hearing that. He has a sneaky feeling that Judah holds the keys to some of the questions he had.

"I told you before 1st Elder, those questions can only be answered by Judah. I, too, want some answers to why this legion is being formed and who we are preparing to engage."

Kyri showed the confusion on her face for the first time in the meeting. The elders saw this and knew this was genuine.

"I see. Since is the case. Then let us finalize the conditions for this new legion." The 7th elder spoke. Many other elders were surprised hearing this from the 7th elder. "Everyone in favor of each elder having 10 spots in the new legion; vote now."

Out of the 12 elders, only five agree on having 10 spots. The other elders wanted more. "I suggested that the based power of the elder faction should have more slots."

The 5th elder had a smud grin on his face. "How many slots are we talking about, 5th elder Lu?" One of the elders spoke. "30 slots to the strongest. The rest will have their own amount according to their strengths. The lowest one should only get five slots.

Everyone looked at each other and had a doubt on their face with this suggestion. Until Kyri spoke up again. "I agree! Since I am the newest grand elder of the clan. That means I would have 30 slots to myself."

"No! Since when!" 5th Elder Lu yelled in rage with this discovery. Many of the elders found this very scary with the old matriarchal power within the clan. Many of their plans could be thrown out of the window.

"I suggest you should take 1st Elder Style Waves opinion on this matter. Unless you want to grant me 30 slots." All the elders knew they could not allow that to happen. They all revoted, with a majority in favor of ten slots for each elder. 5th Elder Lu begrudgingly agreed with these terms and conditions of the formation of the new legion.

The same conversation was being had in the Night and Midnight clan, just on a smaller scale. Since they will only be sending five hundred talents to this new legion. Still, that's a lot of talent they wouldn't have in their care.

"Since this matter is all done. The rest of the elders can gather the rest of the talents to fill out the remaining slot for this new legion. I am taking my leave now."

"Stop! Before you go, Kyri. When is that rebellious brat of yours ready to speak with us?"

Kyri turned back and looked at the 5th elder Lu with a disdainful look on her face. "Even if I have my own grievance with Judah, openly disrespecting the matriarch of our clan comes with serious consequences."

An ugly look washed over the 5th elder. Forgetting that he was in the presence of the other elders. He quickly settled down and regather himself. "Don't play with me, Kyri. Now! Answer my question immediately. When will Judah be able to speak with us?"

Having an intense look in the Elder Lu's eyes. "Hahaha! Your ignorance knows no bounds. Let me tell you something." Kyri pushed her hair to the side and flashed a brilliant smile. She walks over and whispers in Elder Lu's ear.

"Even if Judah did talk to you. You would probably die in the most grudgesome way possible. Hahaha. I would love to see that slight. It is pity I won't. Sigh."

Kyri quickly grabbed 5th elder Lu's throat. "Keep testing my patience, and I will kill you myself. There are a lot of people who would love your position. So, don't think I won't because I will."

Kyri let go of Elder Lu's throat. Breathing hard and grasping for air, look at Kyri with horrible. Moving quickly away from Kyri. Elder Lu looked around to see if anyone knew what happened.

Seeing that couple of elders just shook their heads. Being embarrassed by what just happened. Elder Lu left the room without speaking to anyone else. Kyri clapped her hands together.

"Now, I will take my leave. If you have any questions that I cannot answer, please wait patiently, and Judah will answer them when she can."

Kyri turned around and walked out of the room, leaving the rest of the elders there.

Back in Silver Lake City, Sifir continues to look for unique and unrank skills that could help him in more breakthroughs and merits.

It was only a matter of time until Purple Night saw Sifir in the market. Walking over to see what Sifir was doing at this vendor shop.

"This skill is tier 2, unrank."

"I see. Can I take a quick look over this skill book?"

"No. Either you buy it or you leave it."

"How much does this skill cost?"

"Since this is a Tier 2 skill and it is unrank at that. You are looking for 50 thousand purple coins."

Sifir narrows his eyes and securitizes the owner of this vendor."I am only spending 20 thousand purple coins on this unranked skill book."

"Have to be 50 thousands."

"I am fine with leaving this book here. I have other things to do."

"Wait!" The owner of the vendor really wants to get rid of this book. Gritting his teeth. "I can only do 30 thousand." "25 thousand is the most."

"Fine!"

Both the owner and Sifir make the exchange. The owner went to busy himself, feeling like he won the exchange on this deal. Sifir opened up the book and quickly slimmed the book and skill. Finding that skill can increase reaction speed.

"Very interesting."

"Yes, it is a very interesting skill, Fall Night." Being scared at who was talking. Seeing it was Purple Night, who was over his shoulder and looking at the skill book. Remembering what happened last time, Sifir, quick put it away.

"I already saw most of the skill. Too bad it is a low-tier 2 skill, and it is unranked as well. That skill is useless to me."

"Right. Rite." Sifir has a doubtful look.

"Anyways, do you need something Purple Night?"

"No, I don't. Are you giving me orders for fall night?" Having mischief look in her eyes.

"Sigh." 'Why does she have to make everything so difficult? Maybe she needs some.'

"What are you thinking about, Fall Night?"

"Absolutely nothing. I need to find a few more items before we leave tomorrow afternoon, Purple Night."

Just as Sifir turned around to walk off, Purple Night grabbed his shoulder. "Not so fast. Answer my question first."

"What do you really want to know, Purple Night?"

"Smart. What did you and the City Lord of Silver Lake talk about?"

"Oh? Nothing much. Just some conditions to allow Jagged to leave the city tomorrow. That's all."

"You make it sound so simple. However, I know that City Lord isn't a simply man by no means."

"He is not. However, the conditions are straight forward. That being said, I can't really go into details. Because we are bound by the soul contract."

"You did what? Why would you sign a soul contract?"

"Well, it was my standard soul contract." Sifir said that was too casual like this; like, wasn't the first time doing this.

"Your standard soul contract? I really don't believe you and your nonsense."

Sifir started to walk deeper into the market while Purple Night followed him. Purple Night looks at Sifir with more interest than before. 'Fall Night, who are you really? Because you are acting more mature than your age. Expected for not wanting to take loss. I guess that his immaturity is coming through—hard to tell.'

As Purple Night, just watch Sifir going through different shops and vendors. Sifir had an eye for unique items that had no use for her.

"How can you find these in a sea of junk?"

"What do you mean?"

"I just saw you pick up that skill scroll that could double your power for one-time use."

"Oh, that skill scroll? I am taking that back to my clan so they can determine the formation of the skill."

"Why did you say that?" A shock in Purple Night's eyes when Sifir said about the scroll

"Yeah, most of this scroll is a formation. The skill itself is rather unique, I guess. I am more interested in the merit I can get from this."

"Merits?"

"Yes. The more merit I can get. The better resources I can gain from my clan."

"Is that why you always look at unranked skills and techniques?"

"It has something to do with it. I cannot go into the specifics. What I can tell you is this: all our skills or techniques start from unranked, and we have to modify them ourselves."

This revelation shocked Purple Night to the core. "Have you modified any of your skills yet?"

"No. I haven't. However, there are certain conditions to be met before one can modify or change a skill or technique. That is what one elder in my clan told me.

"Why is that?"

"I am not sure, but it must be rooted in the skill or technique and element you are trying to infused with. I also believe it could be a test as well."

"That does make sense. Have you woken up your elementary affinity yet?"

"No," Sifir thought to himself, 'even if I did. I won't tell you this.'

"Mhmmm... There must be a reason. Have anyone woken their affinity early?"

"What do you mean early?" Sifir had a hint of caution in his voice.

"Well, there are some clans that have their kinsmen wait until a certain age. So, when they do awaken their affinity, they would grow quickly."

"I see. Well, I don't much about this. It seems like we are at the inn. I guess this is where part aways?"

"That is cute. Unfortunately, we are in the same room. You should have expected this arrangement by now."

Sifir could only let out a sigh of helplessness.

"Come, Fall Night. We need to prepare for our departure tomorrow afternoon." Purple Night gave out soft chuckles as she entered the room, followed by Sifir.
