Chapter 56 - The Guardian (6)

Alex's experiences with falling from high places only increased with each passing day in Tevia. None of those moments occurred during the day when you can clearly see where you're going.

Below the monster was a floor leading to the city hall's stairs. No one was close enough to them, which only heightened Alex's impression of the fall's size. It all took only three seconds, but it was at least a whole minute in Alex's mind.

As soon as the monster fell from the parapet, the elf followed it, raising his blade and aiming for the creature's neck. Not a single drop of fear or fatigue was in his mind at that moment—only the task he had set for himself.

He swung the blade down, and the monster deflected it with its gauntleted hand. The beast made a fist with his other hand, and Alex knew it was summoning its mistblade. The werewolf brought it close to Alex's chest, and the young elf knew he would be doomed if the blade completed its summoning.
