Chapter 26 - Monster of the Sea (3)

Morvain swiftly took cover behind the closed walls of the deck cabin and peeked through. The spear guy moved as if he owned the Kraken, at a deliberate and unhurried pace. Although Morvain couldn't discern his expression, he was willing to bet his left nut that the guy was smiling.

"What an arrogant jerk!" Morvain mumbled.

The spear guy acted as if he'd already won, like the Kraken was just playing along with him.

The Kraken unleashed another sweeping attack, but the spear guy effortlessly dodged it with a single jump. Morvain couldn't help but notice the guy's hair flowing and dancing in the process.

"What an extra jerk!"

It wasn't just the spear guy; most of the warriors seemed to have caught on to the pattern in the Kraken's attacks. The moves were slow enough for them to anticipate, but powerful enough to shatter human bones like eggshells.

With a collective strategy, they patiently waited until the tentacle drew near and then executed well-timed jumps, effortlessly clearing the danger.

For a few individuals not blessed with sufficient height, their leap fell a bit short, leading to collisions with the upper part of the tentacle. Despite sustaining some injuries, they still managed to touch down safely on the decks.

Lumiere, showcasing her magical prowess, conjured ice from her hands. She skillfully crafted two ice poles that swiftly elevated her into the air, just in the nick of time before the tentacles could sweep over her.

Morvain couldn't help but curse under his breath at their remarkable displays.

"They're just showing off! Arrogant pricks!"

Yet, the spear guy stood out among them all. He executed a jaw-dropping move, jumping and performing a front flip while striking the tentacle with his spear. The slash was deep enough to draw blood.

This marked Morvain's first time witnessing a true battle with Awakened warriors at the forefront. The last time he caught even a glimpse of this, he was nearly at death's door.

However, this was on a whole different level compared to Eldric's and Hound's scuffle. Eldric's fight felt more like an adult bullying two kids, but what unfolded before Morvain's eyes now was nothing short of phenomenal.

The clash between a mythical creature and the bests of the future generation was simply awe-inspiring.

It was a sight to behold, and Morvain found himself unable to tear his eyes away from the spectacle.

"Darn it, why can't I have abilities?" he grumbled inwardly.

The spear guy emerged as a true force, standing out as the best among the warriors. The Kraken seemed fixated on him.

There's just something oddly amusing about watching a fight to the death rather than being in one. Morvain couldn't help but find pure joy in his newfound role as the audience.

It's like scoring front-row seats to the chaos without having to dodge tentacles and risk becoming Kraken sushi. Life's a lot funnier when you're not the one being chased by mythical creatures, after all!

The spear guy made a beeline for Lumiere, chatting her up. They were too far for eavesdropping, but nods were thrown around like a secret handshake, and they split in opposite directions like they'd just sealed a deal.

Meanwhile, the Kraken, still holding a grudge against the spear guy, whipped its tentacle back into action. It looked ready to bring the hammer down, or rather, the tentacle, to squash the irritating pest that had the audacity to poke it.

Morvain, feeling a sudden dryness in his throat, kept a close eye on the spear guy. The tentacle, armed with the wrath of an annoyed Kraken, crashed down with a force that could make anyone gulp.

"Damn! This guy's dead," Morvain muttered to himself. The spear guy stood there, cool as a cucumber, spear at his side, while the tentacle made its ominous descent. The air was practically buzzing with the impending doom, but watching the scene unfold added an extra dash of adrenaline.

"He's not gonna make it!" Morvain couldn't help but repeat, a mix of fear and fascination gripping him.

Once more, the thought of death raced through Morvain's mind as the tentacle inched perilously close to squashing the spear guy. Morvain held his breath, eyes fixed on the impending collision.

But then, in a move that blended style and sheer audacity, the spear guy whipped his weapon around and slammed its flat end into the wooden floor. Now, for your average Joe, spearing through wood with the flat end might sound as plausible as flying pigs. Yet, for someone who's awakened, it was a walk in the park.

The spear punctured the wood, lodging itself firmly, and with a burst of momentum, the spear guy catapulted backward, defying gravity and gracefully avoiding the tentacle's deadly swipe. Morvain, slack-jawed, had to physically close his mouth to stifle any involuntary sounds. Witnessing the spectacle unfold live was nothing short of breathtaking.

'Fuck, that was epic!' Morvain thought, awestruck, as he witnessed the Kraken's colossal miss, the tentacle smashing into the spear planted on the ground. The force was so immense that it skewered through the spear as effortlessly as a fork through well-buttered meat.

The Kraken, betrayed by its own attack, let out a howl of pain as the spear sliced through its tentacle like it was nothing more than softened butter.

Morvain's eyes followed the spear guy's landing a few meters behind Lumiere.

"Phew! That was a close call," Morvain exhaled, relief washing over him as he watched the spear guy touch down on the deck. The Kraken, now in a symphony of howls, raised its tentacle from the wood. However, the pointed and barbed end of the spear had already sunk deep into its flesh, refusing to budge easily.

As the Kraken struggled, Morvain realized that the more it fought, the deeper the spear went, causing a steady flow of blood. Meanwhile, Lumiere's eyes widened, and she shouted back in surprise.

"The spear! The blue spear is there! I can see it."

The battlefield had shifted, and the tide seemed to be turning in their favor.
