Chapter 5 - Training as a Slime (5)

"Ting! (Hyperthymesia) passive acquired." The contents of the book flowed into Cori's memory.

Feeling motivated by the new skill and anxious about the approaching deadline, Cori decided to consume as many books as possible. However, the pressure to finish everything with such haste felt even more overwhelming with every passing book. Finally, he reached the last page of the final book in the room- titled, "One with Weapons". It was a large book with unusual texture. It was as if it was made from skin. The book felt more alive than the rest. In fact, there was a faint heartbeat sound resting within it. Cori bubble body crawled whenever he flipped the pages, so he was really glad that he finally made it towards the end of the 99,999 pages book.

As Cori began absorbing the details on the last page, a sense of lethargy fell over him. His body felt wobbly and his paws began to tremble ever so little. Never had he felt so sleepy since his transmigration. His eyes began to squint as the words began to dance. He had to activate (Hyperthymesia) several times. Alas, upon reaching the last thousand words, his body gave in and started to melt into a puddle.

The system prompted, "Recovery mode activated, new passive skill (Leftover-fats) detected. Activating. Health recovered 5%, recommend sleep for auto-recovery."

With his last feeble attempt, Cori managed to activate (Hyperthymesia) one last time and managed to reach the end of the page. Finally, after cramming for a week, Cori managed to fit all the details in his non-existent brain. With that, he finally felt a sense of relief. "Squeak, squee..squeeze..squeakzzzz" he squeaked to himself, counting down the number of days left before drifting into deep slumber.

During his deep sleep, the books flew back onto the shelves and the cabinets disappeared into the wall. The carpet swept Cori away like a boat in the ocean and docked him into a small bed. The same fluffy bed that dogs slept in on Earth. The bedroom was heavily ornamented with magic crystals, and unknown minerals that glowed softly in the dark. Small cooling breeze crept through the window, playing with the white curtains. The door swerved as gently as it possibly could and shut itself tight.

A pair of red glowing eyes peered through the window, unable to get in. The leaves in the Wind Forest whispered amongst themselves in the dead of the night. Somehow, a leaf managed to slip under the window and landed itself on the desk. Before it could do anything sinister, a mysterious force transmuted it- leaving a small gold pendant in its place.

The window proceeded to shut itself tight, preventing any further disturbances in the rustling forest.
