Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Past

"I deserved that," I said, holding the place Kin landed me a punch

Out of nowhere, Kin landed me another punch this time I bit my cheeks on the inside and spat out blood.

"I deserved that," I said.

I was punched continuously by My friend. I could tell my nose was bleeding. My teeth if care was not taken were soon to fall out.

I did deserve this.

Kin was worried about his only surviving sibling, his world, even though he hides this fact from her, He truly loves and cherishes her. And, I broke my promise to keep her safe.

The punches I received from my friend were categorized by me to be at the same rate as an angry boxer. He punched me like he was stabbing the zombie he had just killed. I spat out something salty and thick, it was blood. My blood.

I kept on repeating the words: "I deserve this " or "I deserved that" when a Kin blow landed on my face.

He was exhausted from punching me, so he grabbed my wet clothes and lifted me off the ground, I didn't struggle one bit. After he lifted me he threw me into another pile of mud. He lifted me again and he threw me again and again until the point he was tired.

"My sister." Kin's face was flushed with anger, he was pointing at the slow zombie, Myloe making its way to us.

I had no words to say, I used my left elbow to clean the blood on my lip. I spat out and my saliva contained blood. I could test the iron of blood in the mouth.

As I felt pain for myself, I also did for Kin and the friend we lost, Myloe. No amount of physical pain Kin inflicted on me can be surmounted and compared to the pain he felt.

Myloe the one I entrusted to keep Diana safe had turned into his worst nightmare. He was the fragile and naive type, always clinging to the strong to protect him. Always afraid of life and it's torn. He feared rejection more than he feared death and sorrow.

The rain reduced to a minimum, only sprinkling a few drops. The dead Zombies' blood had mixed with the mud and water on the ground. They were once humans like me, Imagined. I tried distracting my mind from what was going on.

"I trusted you Dane and see what you have done. You are the only one in this world I consider a brother, the only one I can ever approve my sister for, 'cause I know you love her. But you failed me! And you failed! Her" Kin said with tears dropping from his eyes, he was continuing the process of the rain that fell. The words he said wounded my heart, the pain I felt in my heart and soul was more than the pain I endured physically.

Sorry is a weak word we all use as an excuse for something we do or something someone has done. Sorry changes nothing in some cases, it is just a word used to represent please forgive me.

I couldn't ask Kin to forgive me, he was free to do whatever he wanted with me, if he wanted to Kill me, so be it, If he wanted to feed me to a whole horde of zombies, I was ready, I was ready for anything that came from him, so I can finally say sorry in the end.

My friend carried me from the ground one last time and hugged me, he placed his face on my chest and cried, cried uncrossable.

"She was my only surviving sibling. Dane, you knew that..." Kin went from crying to wailing. I felt his warm tears soaking into my clothes. I hugged him tightly.

Dandali Davies, son of Davies Day, had six children. He was a soldier in the prestige and imperial army, he had status and what you would call a good amount of power, and he was a high-ranking officer who went on peacekeeping missions abroad. But one day all that changed when an inbound war started in their country between the citizens and the government.

The citizens were fed up with Their ruler, who exploited them and corrupted their nation, making the people suffer in silence. A war began when the ruler launched an attack on innocent protestors which were the citizens

The war grew out of hand, it took the lives of thousands, both the citizens who rebelled against the government and the ones who stood with the government. Unfortunately, Dandali Davies was amongst those who lost his life.

His wife, Mania Davies had to find ways to source for her children's needs after his death. Since it was a critical time there were water and food shortages.

Two of her eldest sons, the first and the second joined the army shortly after their father's death to avenge him and support their family. But this was the beginning of sorrow for Dandali's family. Both sons who joined the army tragically lost their lives two months after they joined. Dandali's wife had no choice, she couldn't take the sorrow and the grief she faced anymore, so she decided to flee from the country with her kids.

Since she didn't have enough money for all of them she decided to send her two youngest children, Kingsley Davies and Diana Davies to a safer country where they could be sheltered and taken care of.

Mania's younger sister had enough money to flee, so she found this as an opportunity. Kingsley and Diana were now in the care of their aunty.

They arrived at a more peaceful country, a country free from war, a country rich in history and advancement which was where I was born.

Shortly after Kingsley, his sister, and his aunt arrived. It was shown on the the news that Badler, the city they had just come from was attacked by the rebel citizens and most of the population was dead or severely injured. But Kingsley's family wasn't severely injured they were dead.

Kingsley's aunt found a living and she took good care of her new children. Kingsley was six at the time and his sister was three. They were the perfect family. Years later they moved to where I lived and we became neighbors then me and Kingsley became friends. I never knew the hardship they had faced before before I met them.

My face didn't leave my shoulders, he was crying, he was sad, and was in pure agony.
