But in that critical moment, an unusual noise suddenly wafted from another direction.
Angora turned towards that direction by reflex, and found that a strange caravan had appeared out of nowhere not far from the town.
Though it looked like a normal merchant caravan, it was barreling through the skeletons and quickly approaching them.
It was only then that Angora noticed that the merchant caravan members had white names hovering above their heads just like himself.
There was no mistaking it. They were the Players the System was talking about!
At once, Angora's heart that was hanging in the air was finally relieved. Even as he thought to himself that the System wasn't lying to him, he shouted happily, "Our reinforcements are here! Keep it up, we'll hold on until the end!"
But he soon realized that not only did the townsfolk not relax, the despair on their faces had deepened instead.
"My lord, are these the reinforcements you were talking about?" Vela couldn't help asking.
Angora paused for a moment at her question.
That's right. The Players looked to be around twenty. Could they really win against an army of over eight hundred skeletons with superior skeletal knights?
Angora had never thought about that before, and had only hoped that the Players would come to his rescue. But now, he could not help but doubt the Players' ability to fight when he saw their messy formation … After all, he himself was a Player who could only fight five times as much …
What puzzled him even more was the Players' attitude towards the sea of skeletons around them.
It was neither fear nor contempt, but a more incomprehensible feeling, as if they were looking at a walking gold coin.
"There are so many monsters here! This feels good! "
"The monsters in the forest are avoiding us. Finally, I can try out my new skill."
"Hurry up, hurry up!"
"EXP! So much EXP! "
"That big guy on the horse must be the Boss. I wonder if it would drop anything good."
"That horse is so cool, I wonder if I could steal it and ride it …"
"Can we complete the 'Rescue the Newbie Village' quest after we kill these monsters?"
"Yahaha! So many monsters! I, Marni, finally have a chance to reach level three!"
"[Frost Bomb]!"
"Don't kill steal, hey —!"
Be that as it may, what happened when the Players' party ran into the skeleton army was completely out of Angora's expectations.
The skeletons were slaughtered by the reinforcements of the Players.
It wasn't that the players were so powerful that they weren't afraid of skeletons at all. After all, some superior skeletons could still deal considerable damage to the players.
For example, the Player who called himself Marni who was dressed like a merchant had several swords sticking out of his back after he fought three skeletal warriors head-on with his battlefield swordsmanship, yelling 'Ah, I'm dead' as he dropped dead.
However, none of the players backed down because of this. Instead, they fought even more fiercely.
It was as if they didn't feel pain. Their flesh and bones were flying everywhere because of the fierce battle.
Even Angora, who had been hiding behind a wooden crate felt his blood boil at the sight of the bloody and heroic sight. He raised his longsword that had long since been chipped and warped, shouting loudly, "Our allies are fighting a bloody battle! If we don't fight now, when are we going to!"
The other townsfolk were clearly stunned by the Players' appearance as well. The bloody battle and the skeletons that kept falling were not fake (they didn't notice that the fallen skeletons were gone due to the chaos), and they were completely moved by the 'reinforcements' who were risking their lives to save them. As such, they heeded Angora's call to raise their weapons and charge out of the shelter, starting a counterattack against the skeletons around them.
Caught off guard by the commotion caused by the Players in the distance, the skeletons were promptly cut down by the townsfolk!
When the Players saw that the townsfolk had pulled themselves together and started to attack the skeleton army on their own, the Players all cried out in gratitude.
"Damn it, don't fight! That's my EXP!"
"It's useless even if you fight! Just let them go. I might get something from them! "
"Damn it! We're here to save you, and you're stealing our kills?! That's not right! "
"Marni's dead again! How inhumane!"
Even if he couldn't understand what they were saying, they must be praising him for the order he issued in a moment of inspiration. Angora thought inwardly.
Both sides were working together to take down more and more skeletons. It was a pity that neither side had enough manpower, and so the battle became a little tense.
Vela dodged the skeleton warrior's sword with a nimble movement, before using the hilt of her sword as a blunt weapon to viciously strike the skeleton warrior's exposed spine. In no time at all, the skeleton warrior's spine was hammered out of place, and a chain reaction soon caused its body to fall apart.
The girl's battle was smooth and fluid, and she finished off the skeleton warrior in the blink of an eye. The entire process did not take more than three seconds.
Her graceful movements that looked as if she was dancing left Angora in a daze.
"Vela, so you're actually that strong …"
"Didn't I tell you, my lord?" Vela took the chance to catch her breath, and smiled like a little fox. "I'm the best hunter in this town."
Angora couldn't help feeling fortunate that he did not do anything rude after getting to know her. It was great.
"This can't go on," Vela yelled at Angora after cutting down several more skeletons with her own hands.
"We have to take down their leader, the skeleton knight, if we want to disperse the skeletons." Angora tried to guess. "Look, the reinforcements are doing everything they can to get to the skeleton knight!"
Vela took a moment to look at the reinforcements, and realized that the messy party had indeed given up on defense, and were relying entirely on the two clergy girls who were protected at the center to keep them alive with their healing spells. They were barely holding on as they charged towards the skeleton knight!
"Vela, let's go help them!"
"Yes, my lord!"
Hence, under the cover of the townsfolk, Vela led Angora towards the skeleton knight from another direction.
After much difficulty, both parties finally reached the skeleton knight. Although Angora was a little curious as to why the faces of the Players were as foul as if they had eaten shit, he did not think too much about it as he was overwhelmed by passion, and simply attacked the skeleton knight with Vela and the other Players!
"I won't let you steal the Boss even if I'm out of mana!" The youth who was slightly smaller than Angora and had the word 'Edward' floating over his head sheathed his wooden club back at his hip and drew out his longsword.
"I'll protect my fief!" Angora recalled the knight novels he read before, his blood boiling as he prepared to fight the revenant chieftain invading his land alongside the Players.
But in the split second that their weapons were about to touch the skeleton knight, Vela suddenly noticed that the silver-haired twin-ponytailed girl who had been casting healing spells at the center of the reinforcements suddenly raised her crude magic wand.
"[Spear of Victory]."
