Chapter 28 - Tomb of the Dead (7) - Hard

Alex's heart raced, and the palms of his hands were sweaty. It was finally time! The door to the last boss was right before him.

'I hope this is the last boss, that is…'

All the others were soon coming to the dungeon, and the Tomb of the Dead was destined to become a hot spot for a while. Therefore, Alex wanted to clear it and end that place as fast as possible, using his time to explore new things while the others occupied themselves with the dungeon.

He pushed the door open, revealing something different. While the boss' arenas were closed rooms the last time, the one before him was an open coliseum-type arena, with rows for people to sit and watch. Of course, no one was there watching, not even skeletons.

'That would be funny.'

Alex looked around and found nothing. The arena was empty. He looked down, kicking the sand on his feet.

'Sand… A different type of floor compared to the other areas.'

Then, suddenly, the coliseum door on the other side of the arena opened, revealing a creature.

A knight! The creature was a skeleton wearing full plate armor, its color resembling the night, the darkness. The knight's armor was robust, making the skeleton look massive, and its height was around 3 meters.

Now, that was not the only thing! In fact, what caught Alex's attention first was what the knight was riding.

A black horse with red eyes! Not a normal horse; its size was much greater. The horse was not skeletal or anything related, which was strange, but Alex paid no attention to it.

[Lich's Knight (Dungeon Boss, LVL 15)]

The creature wielded a two handed sword with one hand, making it look even more intimidating. Alex did not know what to expect.

Before he tried anything, though, the knight dashed toward him in a rapid manner, the benefit of having a horse.

Alex grasped his weapon, and focused all of his attention on the boss coming his way. The knight swung its sword toward him!

The attack itself wasn't that fast, but Alex barely dodged it by ducking. He felt the wind move his hair, and his life flashed through his eyes.

'That was close.'

Alex turned around to face the knight after dodging its attack. The boss turned too, and it instantly cast a spell. Two balls of fire appeared on the air, and then they flew toward Alex!

Everything happened so fast Alex did not have the time to strike back, only having the time to dodge, jumping away from the fireballs.

He dodged, but the ground where the fireballs hit was on fire, making it a place Alex did not want to travel through.

'This attack diminished the amount of space in the arena for me to dodge. Not good.'

Despite the current situation, Alex was still focused on the battle, not wanting to back down after seeing the first part of the boss' mechanics. He had to endure and see everything to have a chance of completing it.

The boss moved to follow Alex, circling around the ring of fire on the ground. It wanted to strike using its sword once again, not giving much time for Alex to think.

It was hard to face a boss alone. Usually, someone would tank the boss, giving the DPS members of the party a chance to attack.

Alex? He had to avoid the boss' attacks, tank the ones he could not dodge, and find an opportunity to strike, all alone. That was demanding, and sometimes, impossible.

But he was someone with the mentality of, 'If the game developers said it's a boss one could do solo, then I just have to find out how!'

The Tomb of the Dead, be it solo or in a party, was the same dungeon. Alex knew for certain it was possible to clear it solo, or else the game would not have a ranking just for it.

So, instead of crying because the fight was hard, he tried to find a way to make it easier.

While doing his best to avoid the boss' attacks, Alex thought of the possibilities at hand, and there was one thing that did not leave his mind once.

'The ring of fire...'

There was something strange. The boss, for some reason, avoided the fire on the ground. Alex would certainly take damage by standing on it, but what about the boss?

Others might think the boss is immune, as it was the one who cast the skill, but was it? Alex thought it looked strange the knight circled around the fire, not stepping on it.

An idea crossed his mind, and seeing how the arena was diminishing in space with fire all over it, there was no hurt in trying.

"Doppelganger!"

A clone looking the same as Alex appeared close to him. The knight stared at the two of them, as if it was thinking of whom it should attack.

The Doppelganger moved closer to the knight, luring it. Then, Alex's Doppelganger walked over the fire!

[Sustaining Burns]

[-30 HP per Second]

Alex's clone had the same amount of HP as his, but if it died, then nothing would happen to him, like a debuff or something. So, everything was fine.

The knight, seeing how a weak human was daring to walk over the fire, did the same. Not to prove anything, but because it thought Alex would die first than him, so why avoid the fire?

'Got you!'

The boss was taking the same damage as Alex's clone was taking, diminishing its HP. Not only that, but Alex made sure not to lure the boss too far!

It was just near the edge of the ring of fire, meaning Alex could circled around, and attack it from behind.

"Shadow Strike!"

His Umbra Blade, a legendary weapon, was using the form of a great axe. The boss wasn't aiming its attacks on him, so there was no need for a faster weapon. He wanted damage.

[486 Damage Dealt]

The damage was quite good! It differed each time because enemies had different defense values, so it was hard to estimate the damage.

But the boss' HP bar got down by a few numbers! Sadly, the Doppelganger could not last long, and after it was dead, the boss aimed its attacks on Alex again.

The arena was getting tighter. Alex knew one thing.

'I might die here...'
