Chapter 1 - Ground Zero

Long ago, there was once a godless reality. There was no magic, no peace, and society was always teetering on the verge of collapse. The world was chaotic, inhumane, and scientific. You were lucky if you had a home at all, much less make it through the day alive. It was like someone just said, "A dash of chaos here, a sprinkle of crime there, oh what more could this world need? Oh, I know! An abundance of selfish greed everywhere else."

Now imagine this. In this world, as though stricken with an ironic twist. Religion ran rampant like the verdant weeds of an unmanaged garden. There wasn't even a deity in sight. It was like they just took a shot in the dark and hoped it would work out. Though, don't get it twisted. This wasn't a case of making do with what you got. The masses were manipulated by those with more influence and power than you can imagine.

But the humans in charge wanted something more. There were fringe groups who tirelessly sought the creation of a true god. Let's call them 'the Cult of the Nameless God.' These bozos sought the dawn of a new age and the creation of a true god. Their reason? They wanted a scapegoat, someone to blame, someone to guide them and answer their prayers. So, naturally, they turned to human experimentation. Anyway, they had countless failures along the way until one day, they discovered a pair of twins. Can you guess who those lucky winners were?

You nailed it! It was me, Izunami, and my brainy partner in crime, Historia. Our backstory? It's like a forgotten melody, the tune lost to the endless passage of time. Not unlike the time I tried teaching a star to waltz, who knew that would be so hard anyway! But I digress, life was not well for us, and it only got worse.

As for our parents? We only recall vague glimpses of them, enough to know they were kind and gentle figures. They passed away while we were still toddlers, leaving us to wander the streets. Fortune just so happened to favor us at least, with my creative edge and my beloved twin sis's brilliance. We became a dynamic duo for the ages, stealing food, going on grand escapes, and doing parkour as we fled from law enforcement. We did what we had to survive. We were an unusual pair even as far back as I can remember. I mean, who ever heard of kids doing crazy shit like that? I was the creative mischief-maker while my sister was the baby genius, we were total outliers that probably had real potential at one point. That all changed when we encountered the organization.

Thanks to the org that swept us off the streets, we went from an acrobatic duo dancing on a chaotic stage to refined pupils; erm well, as refined as I could become at least. We gained a roof over our heads. Food and education were served up on a silver platter for crying out loud. We were livin' the dream. At least until our sweet sixteen shindig, where our cake held the bitter truth about our situation.

But hey, can you blame us for not seeing it coming? We were too busy living it up, savoring the perks of our sheltered life. Of course, we grew complacent. We were oblivious to the subtle leads; the strings of fate guiding us to what would become ground zero for the end of the world.

As I observed these two young girls reveling in their cake, my mind drifted back to the past. I had nurtured them for this very moment, and while I had no regrets about my actions, an unmistakable sense of guilt gnawed at me. The day I stumbled upon them played like a haunting melody in my memory. They were but five or six, fleeing from the police after a daring food theft. Despite their tender age, their mischievous grins painted chaos around them. Identical in appearance, save for the way they carried themselves and the hues of their outfits, both adorned with dark dirty blonde hair and emerald, green eyes.

The mischievous one, a virtuoso of chaos, led the brainy girl with a playful pull. Invisible strings seemed to dance at her command, toppling obstacles in their pursuit. The brainy one, in turn, glanced back and pressed a button on a makeshift device, unleashing a wide EMP that plunged an already chaotic scene into further madness.

At that moment, I recognized their extraordinary potential and knew we needed them for our experiments. Their escape, a breathtaking ballet through skyscrapers and across rooftops, left a trail of chaos and casualties. Throughout the ordeal, their smiles remained unyielding, revealing a singular determination to survive at any cost. And so, my plan took shape.

From that day onward, I raised them, molding them for this very juncture. Today marks the culmination of my grand design. If their will to live proves resolute, today will usher in a new era—a dawn where they ascend to become our true gods. As they succumbed to sleep, the drug's effects taking a bit longer than anticipated, I issued orders to the concealed figures behind the doors.

"Take them away. Let us be the architects of reality. I86 and H87 are in slumber," I commanded.

"Yes, sir! May this be the dawn of a new age!" the men chorused in unison as they ushered the girls toward the surgical tables.

Seeking solace, I decided to calm my nerves with a drink. It troubled me that, for a fleeting moment, I saw I86 and H87 as more than subjects—almost as humans. I contemplated calling off the test. "Ahhhh, that's better. Nothing like some refreshing wine to take the edge off things."

In the surgical chambers, a delicate ballet unfolded as the girls were securely fastened to the tables. The hustle of doctors scurrying about created a symphony of footsteps and the clatter of metallic instruments. Guards stoically stationed themselves outside, while the director, now with a subtle buzz clouding his thoughts, settled into a room with a one-way glass wall for keen observation.

A voice rang out amidst the controlled chaos, seeking guidance. "What do I do with the corpses? There are high elves, kitsune, elves, various fae, angel-like entities, and dragonkin we can use."

The director pondered for a moment, realizing that this was the opportune moment. A surge of optimism flooded his thoughts. We won't have a better chance than this. I have a good feeling that this will work. So, let's make use of them all. He issued his decisive command, "Use them all. If this doesn't work this time, it will never work."

"Sir, yes, sir!"

The surgery unfolded, marked by the intricate dance of interspecies organ transplants. Blood spilled and coated the tables as the experiment pushed forward, oblivious to the risk of subjects succumbing to blood loss. Hours turned into a blur, extending well into the next day.

During the process, the girls' once dirty blond hair transformed into a striking silver, and their human ears disappeared. In their place, the twins now possessed the ability to alternate between the elegant ears of a high elf and those of a kitsune. Additionally, they sprouted retractable angelic wings, a manifestation of their evolving form.

As dawn painted the sky with the silvery hues of the morning sun, the final steps unfolded—an arcane ritual to seal the deal. The organization gathered around the blood-stained tables, engaging in an ancient chant. Upon completion, the brilliance of the sun burst into the room, incinerating all but the two subjects, Izunami and Historia, who had developed immunity. The world around them dissolved like disintegrating particles, leaving the sisters suspended in a boundless and empty dimension—a space that once cradled their old reality, now forgotten to the girls.

This was the day when two gods were born, and the world met its end. The twins opened their eyes, revealing a transformation. Their once pure emerald-green eyes now bore a mesmerizing heterochromatic gaze—red and green, with small argent crescents glowing on their irises. The two sisters would eventually go on to create their new reality, but that's a tale to be continued at another time.
