As Chloe regained her composure, she quickly tried to fix her disheveled hair. As her hands were occupied against Lucas's chest, she blew strands of her hair out of her face.
When he took her for a spin just now, she envisioned the classic scene from a Korean drama where the male lead heroically rescues the female lead in the same way. Expectantly, she anticipated to see a handsome face once her hair was out of the way.
With her anticipation spiked up, she elegantly blew he hair aside, hoping for a dashing sight. As some strands still blocked her path, she blew a few more times before all strands were out of her sight. However, instead of a romantic and sophisticated hero, her eyes met with the sight of Lucas swiftly chewing the remains of the last bite of his hamburger.
Before pulling her away from the falling object, he decisively stuffed the last bite of his hamburger into his mouth.
Chloe was caught off guard as she stared at him, finishing his food. Her expression shifted from anticipation to shock and amusement as she gazed at him. His cheeks were slightly puffed from the hastily devoured food.
'Ahhh, And there he is, my hamburger charming HERO. Why are Korean dramas so different from reality? Just one second...ALL I ASK FOR - Is that too much? I guess it is better than ending up on the news from getting struck by a foreign object,' Chloe silently thought to herself as she patiently waited for him to swallow the rest of his burger.
Lucas, totally clueless of Chloe's brief moment of hopeful anticipation, flashed her a sheepish grin while swallowing the last bite of his burger. "Saved you just in time before you became meat patty, didn't I?" he said with a hint of a grin, oblivious to Chloe's fleeting expectation of a romantic moment.
"Yeah...Thanks for saving me, Mr. Hamburger Hero." Chloe couldn't help but chuckle at the unexpected turn of events, shaking her head playfully. Both of them burst into laughter, turning what could have been a dramatic moment into a humorous memory between friends.
"Oh right, that object that fell. Which distinguished guest of ours dared to disobey our VIP rules? Littering is one of the bankruptcy fees we make hefty charges for. I wonder who-" With her cellphone in hand, she intended to capture photo evidence of the incident for documentation.
However, a puzzling realization struck her as she continued examining the object.
The unknown object that dropped from the sky showed visible signs of damage and distortion. However, it was not difficult for her to recognize Ivy's slipper. The once recognizable features of the angry pig's face were now misshapen, looking crushed compared to its original chubby cheeks. Similarly, the bunny ears, originally perky and distinct, are now bent out of shape due to the force of the fall.
"This-" Chloe snapped out of her trance and raised her binoculars, continuing her action from earlier. When she caught sight of the specific room she was looking for and the evidence she needed of an opened window, she quickly collected the battered slipper and pulled Lucas into the hotel.
Ding
The elevator opened. Chloe rushed out of the elevator the second the doors opened, forgetting Lucas.
"Wait for me!" Lucas called out to her, hoping to slow her down to a certain extent.
"SHHHHH! Don't alert the enemy!" She silenced him with her finger against his lip.
As they reached the designated room, they heard agonizing screams coming from the room.
"Aren't we going in?" Lucas questioned her when her anxiousness suddenly dissipated in a matter of seconds.
"Lucas, when we head in later, stay behind my back. Oh, and wear this!" Chloe rummaged through her bag and took out two pairs of sunglasses. She stuffed the pair of binoculars in her purse and combed her hair. After checking her lipstick, she cleared her throat and announced, "Let's go."
She swiftly inserted the universal key card into the lock, and with a click, she opened the door to the suite.
Chloe sauntered towards the room's entrance with serene confidence, her strides echoing a dramatic flair inspired by Korean drama CEO entrances. Lucas watched her, bemused by her sudden change in demeanor.
As they stepped into the suite, Chloe assumed a poised stance, her expression shifting from concern to nonchalance. Lucas followed her lead and slipped on the sunglasses as instructed while trying to mirror her calm demeanor.
With a subtle toss of her hair and a perfectly timed side glance, she portrayed a sense of enigmatic mystery.
Though confused, Lucas tried his best to adapt to the situation. He adjusted his sunglasses and attempted to strike a similar pose to hers. However, this made him appear more bewildered than mysterious.
The agonizing screams became more audible as they approached the living room, causing shivers to run down Lucas's spine. Despite the faint echoes, Chloe managed to maintain her composure.
To prevent any possible danger, Chloe raised a finger to her lips, signaling for silence as they continued sneaking their way around the suite.
The room was dimly lit, casting eerie shadows across the walls. Chloe's eyes darted around, scanning the scene cautiously. She spotted a familiar figure—Roland—standing in the center of the room, flailing his arms wildly and screeching at the top of his lungs.
His exaggerated reactions resembled someone who had just seen a ghost rather than experiencing a typical hotel mishap. He looked like a flapping chicken that realized its eggs had gone missing.
Chloe chuckled, realizing that the agonizing screams were just Roland's theatrical antics. She turned to Lucas, motioning for him to stay put as she stealthily approached the scene.
