"Master, it seems she has changed her mind."
"Doesn't matter Seb I gave her a chance but she was too conceited, one slap and her will broke she isn't worth saving, search her memories forcefully I know you can do it" listening to his words Seb's eyes lit up and with a grin he praised in his mind.
"Excellent he is smart and ruthless, it will be fun to work under him" he turned to see Melinda visibly terrified with the mention of searching her memories. Interfering with the soul and memories came at the price of one's life as the soul core breaks when intruded by someone.
Moreover, soul searching abilities were as rare as phoenix in the middle world, only demons from the nether or gods from the heavenly planes possessed these abilities.
she could see the glint in Sebastian's eyes as he telekinetically lifted her from her previous position and sent her to a wooden chair.
The rope that previously tied her feet was now grappling almost every inch of her body leaving only her forehead.
She wasn't even getting a chance to move even an inch. Seb stood behind her and held the area near her forehead.
A red glow shimmered from his hands as he activated dream-haunt.
At the same time Shane activated Sight of genesis.
[SKILL- DREAMHAUNT(S)]
[Invade the target's brain and look through the targets memories]
[Memories can be erased and manipulated] [Puts the target in a dream-like state ]
[Only works on target weaker than the host]
[Upgradable]
Just as he was looking at the information about this skill.
[DING!! SKILL DETECTED-DREAM HAUNT(SS) ]
[Do you want the possession of Dream-haunt YES/NO]
"Yes"
[DING!! skill acquired Dream haunt(S)]
The notification rang in his ears and he felt a wave of relief wash over him as information about his skill flooded his mind.
He felt amazed by his talent's ability that just by using his sight of genesis he could now copy skills of opponents and individuals with such terrifying ability and he had gotten so easily. He really felt amazed by this.
Looking forward he saw the dream haunt process still going on the target-Melinda was sleeping while Seb extracted her memories.
after a few minutes Seb released Melinda from the black rope as she fell to the ground with a thud from the chair her eyes red and blood oozed out from l broken jaw. She looked pathetic.
Seb broke the silence, his tone steady and respectful. "Apologies, Master. Her memories were protected by a barrier, which delayed the process slightly."
Shane gave a slight nod, towards Seb's reason. He remained calm, though his mind was already analyzing what this situation means. "It's fine. Just tell me what you discovered."
Seb straightened his posture, his face looked serious as he began his detailed report.
"Master the assisination attempt was the third prince of this empire. He and his brothers are fight for the throne since it was found out that the Emperor's health was declining over the past few years, it has now left a power vacuum on who will take on the mantle of the throne master."
Last year the Prince personally came to the residence for the Duke to ally with him, he demanded that the Duke should be a part of his faction but when the he refused it hurted the prince's ego to the point that he relied on underhanded tactics to get back at the Duke and to weaken his authority.
His first move was to manipulate the imperial court into sending the Duke to the eastern area which led to the Duke not being in his residence to know what was about to be transpired. He had sent Melinda there as a spy disguised as a teacher to aid in the assassins to infiltrate the compound to eliminate you.
As Shane was listening to the information his brain processed the words Seb had just said. It confirmed what he already had guessed. The prince is in a desperate need for allies but whoever doesn't ally with him he uses cowardly underhanded tactics to achieve his goals.
"How Pathetic for a prince of an empire."
"If this is the strength of the people vying for the throne then they are hardly worthy for its position. In Fact I could have taken over this empire if I wanted to." But Shane shook his head quickly to dismiss the idea. He didn't have a need for the throne at least not yet. The desire to rule an empire seems pretty more troublesome than it is worth. From the beginning he wanted peace and simplicity , nothing else. The Freedom from politics and shackles of power plays, that what he wanted.
He looked at Melinda's body lying on the ground as her breath was faint. Her face, battered and bruised, her haughty and arrogant look that she held all this while has been gone from her face. She had dared to be a part of a plot to kill him. "How is her condition?" Shane asked his voice of indifference to her apperance.
"She will live, Master," Seb replied, standing beside her weakened body. "I have refrained from causing any permanent harm to her soul. She think may still be use to you in the future."
Shane considered for a moment about Seb's words before he nodded his head." Good in that case I'll have you deal with her but we have more important things to handle namely the third prince who wanted me dead. Melinda is just a pawn who was used and would probably be killed later by the prince so that nothing would of been trace back to him.
Shane summoned a vial of a red liquid from his inventory and handed it to Seb. The glass glowed in the dim light that encased the room. It was a health potion that was known to be remarkable to heal severe injuries.
"Feed it to her and erase her memories of everything that has transpired here also create an excuse for her current state."
"As you wish, master."
As Shane watches Seb carefully feed her the potion, He realizes this world has really influenced him in a different way. Back on earth he wouldn't hesitate to utilize someone as strong as Seb to do anything on his behalf. Yet now he was neutral as if he had no care for desires of power or the abuse of it. He viewed Seb as a strong subordinate as if this was how it was for them instinctively, he felt like they have a master and subordinate bond that was built a long time ago.
This feeling felt unsettling, yet he also feels gratefulness. For the first time in his life he felt in control of his own life. His mind was filled with clarity and understanding of his goals, his emotion more colder and detach, it was both scary but exhilarating at the same time.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Melinda awoke groggily, her head felt like a drum was beating loudly. Her eye fluttered open for a second as she came to realise she wasn't in her room but on the floor in the hallway. She sat up and held her head as pieces of memories came back to her about what she was doing before.
"Where am I?" she muttered to herself, her voice weak and slurred
Seb stood nearby watching her as she tried to come to think what happened. "Are you ok Miss Milinda?" He asks, his tone polite and respectful far from the cold voice he always has as a ruthless demon. "I found you on the floor, I guess you fainted from exhaustion."
"l fainted?" Melinda repeated as if wondering how she could have fainted. She was trying to find the memory of what could have caused her to faint. The Last memory she had was walking towards Shane's room.
Seb nodded, "Yes the Young Master also found out you were here and requested you take some days off to recover you health he deeply cares for your wellbeing. Though today's lesson will be missed he doesn't want to see you overworked yourself. You were unconscious for an hour now and I agree with the young master's request, It is best if you get some rest.
Melinda still felt uneasy, but she did feel exhausted for some reason. She got up slowly, she felt like her body was hit with something."I see, I guess you're right, I'll take my leave for now then." she mumbled, as she treated her fainting to side effects of being stressed.
Seb watched her as she retreated with a small smirk on his face. Shane's plans were in motion and it will bear fruit in the future. Poor Melinda didn't have the slightest idea that she was a pawn in a much larger game.
As she disappeared down the hallway, Seb returned back to his master room, his master was deeply thinking about something as he sat on the couch.
"Master, please give me any further orders." Shane looked up at the individual before him that had the capability to take down the empire if he ordered it, with a sharp glint in his eyes he said "Good. The real game begins now."
