There were only a few hours until morning after I was shown to my room. It was a nice room, but I didn't look around much since I don't really care. I just sent Zenobia a voice transmission on how to get to the room and sat down to cultivate. Zenobia entered, and I pointed to a door off to the side of the main room with several beds for servants or slaves where she would stay.
I had only been cultivating for about 10 minutes when my divine sense picked up something interesting in Nova's room. Nova finished regenerating, and Lady Nyx immediately started scolding her fiercely for hours.
Contrary to how Nova had been earlier, it was like someone kept pouring cold water on her fiery personality as she knelt in front of her twin with her head hung low. I liked how this ten-thousand-year-old woman was like a little child when getting scolded by Lady Nyx.
I also thought it was cute how Lady Nyx seemed to be struggling to scold her and not just give her a hug. It seems like scolding her twin is not something she can do easily.
Rather than cultivating, I ended up watching this scene. Thankfully, I feel like this won't be the only time this will happen and I will get to watch again.
The sun had just come over the horizon when they went to bed. Lady Nyx made Nova sleep on the floor, while she slept on Nova's bed. I could again tell how Lady Nyx wanted to let her sleep in the bed also, but stayed firm in her resolution to make Nova sleep on the floor.
Anyway, it was morning and I decided to go exploring for a bit. I marched into the servant's room where Zenobia was sleeping and woke her up. She looked really tired, but I needed someone to show me anything good in the city.
"Get up, we are going to see the city in the daytime today."
Rather than complaining, she got up and dressed. I could tell she was unhappy, but she didn't say anything since it wouldn't do her any good.
I walked out of the room, down a few hallways to where the stairs were with the front door at the bottom. There were barely any servants in the hallways, but when I reached the top of the stairs, the butler lady hurried out from around the corner. She looked like she'd just been sleeping but wasn't unprofessional. Someone probably woke and notified her I was walking around and she came to see if I needed anything.
She gave a respectful bow as she spoke, "Mr. Frost, if you are going out, would you like something to eat first?"
"Nope," I took a step with one foot forward towards the door, stretched one hand forward and the other one to the side and slightly behind in a pose I imagined a great explorer might take. As I spoke, I swept the hand in front of me across my field of vision, "I shall have a great adventure to see the city, climb mountains all the way to the stars and visit the great beyond. Fly to the edge of the universe and experience the vacuum of space."
Well, I've actually already been to space, but I'll go again when I devour this world.
I wasn't looking at the butler, but my divine sense picked up a quick flash across her face of "what the actual f*ck," but it was quickly smoothed out, and the signature polite and friendly but neutral and not overly friendly smile was back.
"I wish you luck on your adventures, Mr. Frost."
I walked down the stairs backward while waving to her, "See ya later, Ms. Butler."
As I walked through the gate to exit the estate, I noticed something fun on the edge of my divine sense. A group of 5 individuals who looked like they were up to no good. I walked up behind one of the guards that was hidden from sight amongst the bushes at the side of the driveway.
I looked directly into her eyes and pointed down the estate wall. It's really no fault of her own that I can tell she's there. This world just doesn't know anything about hiding from divine senses or concealing one's breath, "About 230 meters over that way is something we should go check out."
She immediately came out of the bushes started silently moving in the direction I pointed. I grabbed her shoulder, "I'm going first. You don't get to have all the fun young lady."
I moved in front of her and began in the direction of the group who seemed like they were preparing for a raid. They weren't quite human or vampire, so they must be wolves, but they gave off no scent so they must have used something to conceal it.
They were concealed on the edge of the wall in amongst the decorative hedge. They all had silver-plated swords and primitive guns. The stronger beings can dodge bullets easily, so guns are mostly used against the weaker ones.
Silver-plated swords are used because wherever silver touches, the wound heals as slowly as normal humans in either vampires or werewolves. The bullets in the guns were also silver-plated for this reason. In swords though, they are only silver-plated because they would be too weak if it was purely made of silver; for the bullets, it is to save money. Where the silver touches they also feel pain in the normal human way.
The guns were like a revolver with a long barrel and stock, it used percussion caps for igniting the powder. While the barrels were rifled, the bullets were just like large BB's, so they haven't even reached the Minié ball level yet. The cylinder which held the ammunition was removable, so at least they could load more when they ran out quickly, assuming they had more prepared.
I moved silently using magic to suppress even the slightest sound I might make and appeared behind the group who was getting ready to scale the wall.
"Hiyaa!"
They instantly freaked out, spun around and attacked with their swords, not waiting to even see who I was. I think their power was probably a little better than the twins, and there were 5 of them. So it would be a very hard battle even if the twins were prepared, if they were taken by surprise, well... it probably wouldn't go well for the twins.
Lady Nyx gave me a nice place to stay so I'll help her out this time. Besides, they are trying to attack my home now so they have to be punished. And it's a little fun.
I moved out of the way of their swords and pulled out a dagger. If I cut off their hands they won't be able to do any damage when captured. No, they might need to be interrogated so I should leave their hands attached. Hmm hmm hmm, what to do.
I stored the dagger and kept dodging their strikes as I thought about the best way to capture them. The obvious answer is magic, but I shouldn't do that in this world where it would stick out like a sore thumb and people would come after me wanting to know how to do it also. Too much trouble.
Oh, if I shoot them with regular copper-jacketed bullets in the chest, they'll regenerate after a bit, as long as I avoid the heart. I don't know what would happen to wolves shot in the heart, even with copper-jacketed bullets. Vampires it would be fine.
I moved a little away from the lady guard with the wolves in between us and waited for them to attack me again. They really are pretty slow, or maybe I'm just really fast.
They struck out with their swords again, and I ran around behind them, pulling out a gun of my own. I shielded it from the lady guard's sight with my body and pointed at the spine on the first wolf, aiming it off to the right of their chest so as to avoid their heart, pulled the trigger and continued to do the same for the remaining 4.
Baaaannnnggggg!
The shots sounded all merged together, I had to rack the slide manually because it was a little slow and I would have to wait for it to do it on it's own.
The wolves fell to the ground paralyzed, and I stored my gun again after quickly changing the magazine to a full one. The wolves never said anything and appear to have simply accepted their fate.
More guards appeared, and I waved to them, "Ok, I'm done now so you can do whatever you want with them. Tie them up or something before they regenerate if you're not going to kill them."
I walked onto the road and started towards the city to go see some more. I think I'll actually go for a flight overhead rather than a walk. I picked up Zenobia and spread out my feather wings.
"I'm going to fly, show me the interesting things."
I took off from the road and flew towards the middle of the city. I was holding Zenobia with my arms wrapped around her stomach and chest so she could look down as we flew and bound her legs to mine with magic so they wouldn't just flop around.
Her eyes were tightly shut, and she seemed terrified, "Open your eyes so you can tell me where to go."
I know it's a little mean if she's afraid of heights, but I want to know what I should look at, so I need her to open her eyes and point it out.
She seemed to be trying to obey but wasn't trying hard enough. I pinched her nipple hard, "Open them."
They flew open, and her mouth let out a short pained scream. She quickly looked around and pointed to a statue, "That's the previous Lord and Lady of the city. They died fighting the werewolves."
She was shaking in fear but still pointed somewhere else and finally started doing her job properly.
