Chapter 24 - C23- Searching for the Colossus (2)

Amy booked another room at the inn and started to settle in the room. Corvin went out and searched for someone who worked with glass again, to fix his microscope.

Knock Knock Knock

"Huh? Yes?"

"Uh, it's me, Noah. Can we talk a bit?"

"Why?"

"Can I enter first?"

"Sure, come in."

Noah entered Amy's room, pulled a chair and sat facing her. He squinted his eyes with suspicion while looking at her room and her equipment.

"You aren't just a random person, are you?"

"What do you mean?"

"That guy, Corvin, might be smart. Normally being naive is my thing, but when he accepts someone this easily, it makes me suspicious."

"What are you getting at?", asked Amy, with her emotionless voice.

"You... You aren't a normal person. I would actually believe you fell for him with how you act around him, but for anything other than him, you are completely emotionless. I am asking clearly one more time, who are you and what is your goal in approaching us?"

Noah was seriously impressed with himself. He felt like a detective cleverly finding a criminal right now. That was until Amy reached for her belt. He got scared, thinking she was pulling a dagger or another weapon. Just as he was going to jump and defend himself, he saw a pill box in her hand.

"The reason I don't have emotions right now is because of this. I made these drugs myself before coming here."

"Eh?"

Not expecting something like that, his skeptical face crumbled, leaving an expression of surprise behind.

"What? Why did you make that?"

"So that I can function properly as a human. Currently, I think I developed an addiction, but I won't stop until we end this plague. I don't have another motive, I just want to end this plague."

"Why are you so serious about this?"

"The plague took my everything. You are right, I am not a normal person. At least, I wasn't. Until the plague destroyed everything, I was the next ruler of a city state to the north of here."

Amy explained him how she lost her family, friends and her home. The more Noah listened the more he felt bad about doubting her, but at the same time, some questions popped up in his head.

"I see... The plague did took everything you had. But that doesn't explain how you found us. And if you have your emotions suppressed, then why do you act like that around Corvin?"

"For your first question, I found myself here to find someone who can cure the plague. I don't remember why I came here specifically. And for your second question, I have no answer actually. At times when I would normally feel an emotion, I wouldn't feel it because of this drug. But whenever that emotion is about him, it doesn't work. And I feel like it does the opposite actually. Like, I fall in a daze, looking at his face or whatever..."

At this point, her emotionless face got redder, and Noah understood what she meant. The girl who didn't show any emotion when he questioned her suddenly got meeker just at the thought of Corvin.

"So, did you just fall for him so hard that the drug doesn't work or does the drug take all your emotions away but has to put it somewhere else as exhaust or something... you get what I saying, right?"

"Ye-yeah I do..."

"So? Did you fall for him that hard? You can tell me, it would make me happy to know who my friend might get married in the future. And he is a very good guy you know."

"Marri..."

Amy fell in a daze for a moment before getting up instantly and shouting at Noah's bad joke.

"NO! I am not that easy! This is just the drug's side effect! When I stop taking it, I will turn to normal!"

Noah had a grin on his face as he spoke.

"I wouldn't talk big. You might just fall for him for real, you know."

"Can you shu-"

Smack!

The room's door suddenly flung open. It was Corvin, out of breath. Before Noah or Amy could ask what happened, he opened his mouth.

"Noah! Get ready! We are going to hunt a big rat!"

*****

--Some minutes ago--

"I can do it, but it wont be as good as before. We don't have an alchemist here to make glass as clear as this. But I probably can make a lens like what you want."

"Thank you sir! Here is the payment. How long will it take?"

"It should be ready by tomorrow morning since it is small. Because you are trying to cure the plague, I will prioritise your order, young man."

"Thank you! Also, my friends might come to get this as well. One of them is a boy my age with light grey hair and purple eyes named Noah, and the other is a girl a bit older than me with blonde hair and yellow eyes called Amy. You can give it to them as well."

"Okay, anythi-"

Ding~

"Is Corvin Mundy here!"

Before the craftsmen could ask him something, the shop's door suddenly opened and Ellie, the maid from the town hall, entered and asked for Corvin.

"What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"A patient..."

"Hm?"

"A patient turned into a monster, just as you said, and ran away from the hospital."

"What?!"

"The governor called you to the hospital."

"I see..."

Corvin turned back to the craftsman.

"I am sorry, I have to go. Can we talk later?"

"Go ahead young man, it sounds serious... Monsters, really?"

"Yeah, please don't tell anyone."

"I won't."

"Thank you.", he said and he got on the carriage with Ellie towards the northern hospital.

After arriving there, he ran towards the governor while Ellie talked with the guards to explain who he was.

"Oh! Corvin, you are here already?"

"Yeah. What happened?"

"Look at this."

He showed the map he held to Corvin. It was a large the map of the city and it's surroundings. There were a bunch of lines and circles of different colours on the map. It was the map he used to give advice against the plague. Norman pointed at a red arrow coming out of the hospital and going north.

"This is where the ratman was observed to go. We suspect there is something towards this direction."

"Are you sure it wasn't trying to run away from something?"

"No, it probably didn't, considering it broke through the wall and killed another patient while doing so. It just ran in a straight line."

"Ugh..."

Corvin didn't want to imagine what it would be like to be attacked by one of these monsters. Thankfully, he didn't have to imagine since he was going to fight their boss in the near future.

'I am not committing a stretched out suicide, right?'

"So, there probably is something at that direction. Sigh~ Alright, I am going back to the inn to get Noah."

*****

"The plague already spread to more than half of Piscea. Good job.", said SAM, while patting the giant monster's skinless head and looking at a certain direction.

"He should be on his way by now... I can't wait to watch him fight.", he said with a slight smile.

"But I waited so much already. So much that I lost myself multiple times... I can wait for a couple of days more."

Then a minion appeared out of the forest and walked towards where the other minions slept. He turned towards the monster and moved his hand to pet it's chin this time.

"A new one survived? You have so many minions again already, huh? You also prepared a surprise for him, right?"

The monster growled. He smiled and patted the monster more. He turned towards the same direction again. His smile deepened.

"Good boy. Good boy.", he muttered while patting the monster.

"This way, he won't be bored, right?"
