Chereads / Goddess Of Hidden Light / Chapter 7 - Dream Serum

Chapter 7 - Dream Serum

He wandered the streets of Kemet blindly.

Letting the sound of people around him chattering to each other, the merchants yelling out sales of their goods from their cart and the children running through the chaos of it all laughing stabilize him.

He had thought that Ra abandoning him and Atann's people was the final shock factor of this whole undesirable mess he was trying to fix but it was not, to his despair. There were worse things at hand now. Things he thought were long gone or so forgotten that even those beings forgot their existence were actually right under his nose this whole time.

He had not been the only person who had been trying to grasp a hold of Ramuna's dream. Matter of fact he had been under distress on who he had been in the dream. A long almost forgotten life and to his horror the more he had observed Ramuna's dream the more he realized not only was it somehow part of Ramuna's subconscious but it had in fact been one of his own memories just from another perspective than hers.

How long has it truly been since that incident? It had to have been a little over five thousand years ago. A time that he had tried throughout his life to block out. A time where he failed every attempt to fix his own poor actions that had caused many lives lost. Not as big of a cataclysmic event as Ramuna's but nonetheless it was bad enough that he could never forget no matter how much time had passed.

Even though it was Ramuna he saw at the river from his memory it had been another woman that he met down at the river before the massacre that happened in that field of green beauty. That meant nothing now. There was a huge possibility that Ramuna and that consort were actually the same person reincarnated. How else could he explain that dream that was locked inside of her subconscious? How could another human hold someone else's memories? Was it possible? No. That seemed silly too. It was possible but only possible if you had some wild capabilities with Heka magic. Something Ramuna had a major lack of.

"I thought I was the only one left."

His whole body froze as he felt shivers go throughout him. He felt himself trembling in fear. This really was a day to be had. This was the second time today that something really caught him off guard. No one in the town square had spoken that out loud. That had come within his mind as if someone was there lost in his thoughts as well. He turned around and to his surprise the High Priestess that was a prisoner in the bunker was standing before him in the streets of Kemet.

Somehow she looked younger than her physical form. She was in white robes with a golden sash around her waist and a golden scarf that covered her neck completely. Her ink black hair was in a high braided ponytail that had golden rings woven within. The High Priestess's eyes no longer had wrinkles around them and she looked like she was now around thirties instead of the age he had thought she was. A woman in her seventies.

"How long have you been wandering around, Watcher? And, why have we never crossed paths?" She said with a sly smile.

"How did you get here?" He demanded not letting his form falter. The worst thing that could happen in this situation is if she could see who he was under the mask. He was still worried if she might possibly be an enemy and even if she wasn't he always kept it a secret throughout his time in Atann that he happened to be the same person he always was. Some people would shrug it off and call it a normal coincidence that people were born all the time that looked like people from the past. Or they would say it was reincarnation. But if anyone knew about his immortality he was worried that he would be mistaken as a god or a threat.

"You think you are the only one who can travel into other dimensions? Or have you been so lonely for so long in the real world that you gave up the idea that there was any of your kind left?" The High Priestess was still smiling as she started walking towards him.

He held his ground making sure he showed no fear or surprise on her behalf as she walked over to him till they were only mere inches apart from each other.

"Do you not recognize who I am? I know who you are but I feel if I announce who you are out loud you will surely try to fight me on the spot. Am I wrong?"

This could be a trap to get him to confess who he was. Then again if she was able to telepathically speak to him then she was able to possibly search some of his memories too. His cover was blown.

"Given that the person I once was has not had control of current affairs for about two hundred years now you can understand that I have been good as dead and have not gone by any name for a long time." He said with caution. That should have given her an answer without him having to give up the one piece of himself he did not want to confess too. In his heart he knew what he truly was. A failure.

"Oh, love, you poor thing. You have been out of the game for only two hundred and fifty six years and I have been out of it for three thousand give or take. Give up your shame and be proud you lasted longer than all of us. I am glad I got the chance to come across another one of my kind. I knew what and who you were the moment you brought the woman here. You thought you were being secretive with your snooping yet I have known you were around all along. Now that we both saw what we saw that is going on in that woman's mind I think you and I both know there is something bigger going on than simply the New World wanting to be the only ones left on the map."

His eyes widened. So this woman knew he had been helping the children in the bunker all along? Knew he was watching them and that he pulled Ramuna into this world? Did that make her an ally since she did not react to him being there? Not even that she had been amongst the people in that green field at the tables. Observing the dream as well. He felt foolish to think he was the only one capable of roaming into places that were of the subconscious without anything else noticing his movements. Especially since this High Priestess came from a secret society hidden out in the desert. He thought that's all it was. A village in the sands that was of the old traditions. He had never thought in any way that any of them might have known Heka or that another immortal would have been in their home.

The High Priestess pulled a vial from her scarf containing blue liquid that was glowing. Almost like the bluish glowing light he used to record information in his sanctum. Matter of fact as she handed it to him and he held it in his hand he felt the immense power coming from the vial. It was in fact the same arcane magic he had been using since he was born all the way back when he was a child in Mesot.

"I mean no malicious intent but you and I both are seeking the same answers. Give her this. Surely she won't drink this of her own free will so put it in a drink and make sure she drinks the mixture completely. It's a hex to make her sleep like a normal human in this dimension of Kemet."

"Why do we need her to sleep? How will this solve anything?" He held the vial twirling it in his palm. He was still suspicious of the High Priestess. What if this was a poison of some sorts? Hell, what did it even matter? Did it matter if Ramuna lived now? There were worse things out there now than a human who can build controlled nuclear weapons. There was a possibility that the ancient gods wanted revenge on the people of Atann whether they were dead or alive roaming the living world. That was enough to make him more worried about the world's future, not just Atann.

"Well there are many reasons why we need her to sleep. One of them is so that she can dream and you and I can both watch. I can watch from the living world and you can continue your little experiments here. May I ask, Watcher, do you think the dream we witnessed was one of her past lives? Or was she possibly storing someone else's memories?"

He looked at the High Priestess and stayed silent. Somehow he already knew this woman had the answer.

The High Priestess laughed and shook her head in utter disappointment of his ignorance. "It was neither. You wouldn't let the dream finish because you had been there. Once long ago and like a coward you couldn't bare to see all those people die again. Yet if you let the dream finish you would have learned that a different outcome would have occurred. Her dream was simply something of unspeakable power. It was an alternative ending. And if Ramuna is dreaming of alternate ends of past events it means she has the power somehow to have already or will go back and change the past. Maybe even more than once."

"You're saying-"

"I am saying that Ramuna is testing past events in her subconscious till she comes out with the best possible outcomes to those incidents. I only know one person who is capable of doing that and so do you."
