It was a dark and stormy night in the small town of Riverton. The streets were empty, and the only sound was the rain falling heavily on the roofs of the houses.
Inside the library, two young women were working. Sarah, a 25-year-old librarian, stood at the front desk, sorting books. Next to her was Emily, a 27-year-old college student, shelving books on history.
"Sarah, have you seen any books on the French Revolution?" Emily said, looking around for something to read.
"I think there may be some in the history section," Sarah replied, pointing to the back of the library, "But I'm not sure."
Suddenly, a loud bang sounded from the entrance to the library. The two women turned and saw a man standing there, soaking wet from the rain. He was wearing a long black coat and a wide-brimmed hat, shielding his face from view.
"Excuse me," the man said in a deep, raspy voice. "I was wondering if I could use your library for a while. I need to shelter from the storm."
"Of course," Sarah said, gesturing for the man to come in. "You can take a seat over there."
The man walked over to a chair in the corner and sat down, nodding his thanks. Emily and Sarah exchanged a curious glance before continuing their work.
But their curiosity turned to concern when they heard a muffled groan and saw the man slumped over in his chair. Emily rushed over to him and shook him, but he didn't respond. She let out a scream, and Sarah rushed over to see what was wrong.
Together, they found that the man had been stabbed through the heart and was already dead. They were both in shock, unable to comprehend what had happened.
As they waited for the police to arrive, they realized that they had just discovered the body of a murder victim. The investigation was just beginning, and the murder mystery of the library was about to uncover a web of secrets and lies.
