Lua sighed in relief silently as the deathly footsteps rapidly departed, leaving him to think about what to do next. As he peeked into the hole, he surprisingly saw that he could no longer see the match. He could chalk it up to it burning out when it hit the bottom, but he didn't hear any sound to back that up.
Maybe one could claim that Lua had simply not heard it as he was focused on Ars' footsteps, and while that may be true, it was also true that the hole echoed any sounds of whatever happened inside. He heard Ars' footing shift from above thanks to the dirt under his feet very clearly, so it didn't make sense that he wouldn't hear something as simple as a match hitting the ground. Not to mention, he would also hear a hiss… to signify that the fire had gone out.
