Late that night Luke roused from an anxious slumber, having grown weary of aimless worries and imaginings over the impending reunion. His phone lit up with Marina's name flashing across the screen as her flight had undoubtedly now arrived.
Heart racing, Luke answered immediately. "Marina? Have you landed safely?"
"We've just disembarked," Marina confirmed briskly. "I'm gathering my luggage outside baggage claim B."
Even her perpetually cool tones were tinged with an undercurrent of wonder and nervous anticipation now. Luke smiled at the tiny hint of the eager girl he had fallen in love with long ago resurfacing in this daunting time that confounded reason.
