"I can't believe that I am here," Akiko said in a hollow voice six hours later. "What exactly am I doing here? My father is going to break my legs."
"Aish, what is the big deal?" Midori gathered Akiko's long hair and styled it into an elaborate bun. "It's not like we are serving the men on the bed."
Akiko looked at Midori's reflection in the mirror in front of her, her gaze laced with terror.
"Wait, you are not trying to set me up, right?" She asked in a panic. "I never actively tried to harm you!"
Midori rolled with her eyes. "Oh, please. Why would I do that? Come on, relax. I am going to speak to him, not you. All you need to do is accompany me."
Akiko pulled a grimace.
She wanted to bang her head against the next pillar so badly.
Maybe then she would feel a lot better about coming to the gambler's den that evening.
