The next morning, as the sky was kissed by the first rays of dawn, Amelia awoke to a chorus of strange noises outside her house. Bewildered, she stumbled to the window and opened the curtains to reveal a sight beyond her wildest comprehension.
As far as her eyes could see, a vast army of uniformed guards stood on the streets, their swords unsheathed and their armor gleaming in the early light. Their unwavering gazes were fixed on her house, as if awaiting further instructions. Amelia's heart raced in her chest, and a lump formed in her throat.
Confusion and fear gripped her as she searched for an explanation. How could her simple act of defiance escalate into such a massive response? Had she unknowingly stumbled upon a secret society or a clandestine operation that her husband had somehow become entangled with?
The doorbell interrupted her racing thoughts, causing her to jump. With trembling hands, she opened the door to find a tall, imposing figure standing on her doorstep. He wore a distinguished uniform adorned with medals and insignia, marking him as the leader of this formidable army.
"Madame, we have come to protect our master," he said with a stern yet respectful voice.
Amelia's mind reeled, struggling to process the words. "Protect your master? Who is your master? And how do I fit into all of this?" she stammered, her voice quivering.
The guard's expression softened, and he spoke with a mix of compassion and urgency. "Our master, Lord Harrington, is our esteemed leader, who disappeared ten years ago during a treacherous voyage. But your post, Madame, has given us hope. The broken ring... it belongs to Lord Harrington. You have unknowingly confirmed that he is still alive."
