This night just isn't going o'l Scorchy's way. He was having the loveliest dream he's had in ages, just to be rudely awaken by Viper blaring into his comms. Not only were they ambushed by a bunch of hacks, the cargo they were guarding turned out to be a person! Better yet, the person they turned out to be guarding was kidnaped in the chaos! Captains gonna give us all an earful for this one if we can't get her back.
As they were walking Scorch saunters up to Rain and brushes shoulders with her.
"So boss, what's the likelihood of making out of this one?"
Rain rubs her chin and thinks for a bit.
"If there isn't any complications, we have a decent chance of success without casualties. If we get spotted too early, or the enemy is stronger than suspected, it would be lucky if even one of us makes it out alive."
Tech chimes in.
"Well that isn't very surprising is it? Seems like most of our missions has some sort of complications."
"Ain't that the truth! I'm more concerned about the newbie though. I wonder if he can keep up with the kind of missions were given, he was wounded in his first fight after all."
Rain moves a few paces forward and scans the area before responding.
"He may be young, but Viper is more competent than you think Ralph. Besides, if you can't trust Viper, trust the Captain's judgement for putting him in our squad."
"Tch. Whatever you say boss."
'I hate it when she uses my real name! It's so lame!'
...
After fifteen minutes they make there way to the east side of the compound just outside of range of the watchtowers lights. Hiding behind a small embankment Rain speaks over the comms.
"Were in position, Viper."
"Copy that, move on my signal."
Looking at the watchtowers Scorch notices that the guards are focused on the outside perimeter rather than inside the compound. Great for when they get inside, but it means if they get their timing wrong, they could be spotted right away. A few minutes pass and Scorch starts to feel anxious. Another few go by, and his palms are starting to sweat while he shifts in place. He has seen at least two good chances to run for the wall with no signal from Viper.
'Why are we waiting so long? Surely he knows the longer we take-'
"Move now."
With the signal from Viper cutting off his thoughts, Scorch jumps up and rushes for the wall along side Rain, and Tech. Running as fast as possible without making too much noise, the three of them weave past the watchtower searchlights, eventually making it to the base of the wall.
"On the other side of the wall is the supply depot with three cameras, and four guards monitoring the area."
On Vipers signal, the three of them scale over the decrepit wall and duck behind a few crates out of sight of the cameras. Tech then pulled out a unique vambrace from his bag and put it on his right forearm. The vambrace has a small screen and keyboard, as well as an assortment of needles poking out of the it.
Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Tech stood up from behind the crates and fired a needle at each of the cameras. Crouching back behind the crates Tech started tapping away at the small keyboard. After a minute of work Tech gives Rain a nod who then jumps over the crates and disappears from view.
There was no sounds of movement, or any signs of a struggle. Thirty seconds after Rain left she speaks over comms.
"Area's clear. We'll cover you Scorch, so make it quick."
Standing up, Scorch cracks his neck and stretches a little. "Time to get to work!"
Reaching into his satchel bag of goodies, Scorch pulls out a number of small C4 charges. While the explosions from each charge is nothing to write home about, if strategically placed, he can easily destroy all the supplies with just four or five charges.
As Scorch is rigging up the place he notices that one of the crates has boxes of ammo and grenades in it, while another was filled with booze. Seeing these crates makes the smile on his face reach both his ears.
'Well i'll be damned, If you give me this much to work with, I just can't help myself!'
With a little enginuity, elbow grease, and an extra few wires in places they shouldn't be, his masterpiece was complete.
'I think you've outdone yourself this time Scorchy! This will probably be the biggest boom you've made in a while!'
As he was admiring his work Rain spoke over the comms, ruined the moment.
"Hurry it up Scorch, were burning moonlight."
"Just finished up Boss, on my way now."
Scorch joins up with the other two hiding between two large storage containers overlooking the parking lot.
There are twelve cars in various states of disrepair in the center of the parking lot. Most of them were used in raiding their caravan, so a lot of them were filled with bullet holes. The worst looking one is a bright orange buggy that looks like it's on the verge of falling apart.
Scorch's next task is to hot wire one of the trucks to use as a get-away car, and place charges on the rest so they can't pursue them. The problem is that there are three guys actively working on the trucks, and buggies. Can't kill them either as their absence might alert the guards on the watchtowers unlike the four goons in the supply depot which is relatively out of the way.
As he spent a few minutes to stretch, they came up with a path that weaved through the cars while avoiding the eyesight of the workers. Viper will help guide him along the path while focuses on working as quietly as possible.
"Move now."
On Vipers signal Scorch made his way to the first car as quietly as possible. Once he got there without being spotted, he hid a charge in a nook underneath the car to make it hard to spot. He would then wait for Viper to give him the 'all clear' before slowly moving to the next one. Fifteen minutes of tense car hopping later and they finally make it to the last truck.
"Don't move Scorch!"
Hearing Vipers warning, Scorch freezes just as he was about to open the passenger side door. A man sits up from sleeping in the driver's seat and yawns loudly. Getting out of the truck he stretches a little while looking at the sky.
"Yaawwn~ How long was I asleep for? Huh-Shit the sun already went down! Gonna get your ass chewed out for this one Mike!"
Grabbing his coat from the truck and quickly throwing it on, he ran off towards the barracks.
Scorch wipes some sweat from his brow before slowly opening the door, and crawling inside the truck. As he goes to pull off the panel under the steering wheel, he spots something shiny laying on the ground. It was a set of keys. Taking the keys he tried to slot them into the ignition one at a time, and sure enough it fit.
"No fucking way. Must of fell out his coat pocket."
Holding in a laugh, he took the truck key from the set, and left the rest on the floor of the truck in case that guy came back for them. Scorch slowly crawled out of the truck making as little noise as possible, and carefully starts making it back to the others.
After another ten minutes Scorch triumphantly crouch walks back and shows them the keys.
"We're all set."
Rain nods.
"Now for the hard part, lets make our way to the central building."
The three of them backtracked through the supply depot and from there made their way to the back of the main building opposite the side the sniper is watching. The back of the building has a stack of wood, and other building materials that they hide behind.
"What's the snipers status Viper?" Rain says over comms.
"The sniper is still watching the front entrance, but they'll be repositioning any minute now."
"Understood, everyone get into position."
Scorch and Tech look at eachother and nod. They squat down and link their hands together to make a foothold for Rain.
"Alright boss, were ready. Goodluck."
Taking a deep breath Rain runs at the two of them and with their help, vaults up the wall of the two story building, and out of Scorches view.
