Moving Out

20 year old Jennette Layne sat on the chair next to the window whilst brushing her short auburn hair out of her face and tucking it behind her ears, her dull brown eyes watching the street below her.A knock was heard at the door, coming!, she responded as she quickly put on an old , plain white t-shirt and a pair of faded blue jeans shorts. Yes?, it's just the mail ma'am replied Herbert the local mailman, his shirt looking as ruffled up as usual. Tough day today?", She asked in her usual nonchalant tone of voice ."yeah just got here since this is my last delivery of the day seems important seeing as how it's labelled fragile". She just plastered a fake smile across her face since she was never the type to enjoy small talk. Thanks she waved slightly at him as he made his way out of the building. She hurriedly opened up the package to find the new one-piece suit she ordered."Thank goodness it came just in time for my trip now to get the rest of these ready" she thought turning to face the boxes and clothes and shoes and what-not scattered across the floor.

Jenette quickly began gathering her belongings together into well labelled boxes as she did so she kept turning her gaze to the time on her phone screen. 3:57pm:"just three more minutes till the taxi arrives I'm making good time if i do say so myself,"she grinned. She bent down to pick up a box labelled junk when a picture fell out of it, it was a picture of her smiling and she had her arm wrapped around someone's shoulder but their face was torn out of the picture. "Well this's nothing but junk from the past now ain't it?. Honk! The taxi had arrived.she got up dusted herself down and went straight outside to the taxi."My load's over there please if you can help carry someover" she said pointing to the remaining boxes , "sure thing ma'am" urgh he grunted heavily, the taxi driver appeared to be middle aged so it's no wonder he was struggling . "The goods are quite heavy but nothing i can't handle", she tried to lend a helping hand but he refused. "It's okay,he finally got them into the back of the car and ready to go." So where are we headed "?,he heaved now getting into the car himself whilst lighting a cigarette. "want one?", He offered but she blatantly refused under the guise of disliking the smell but deep down she knew that was a lie she just didn't want to get tempted back into smoking after being a heavy smoker for the seven years she stayed at that house. He turned back to the stirring wheel, started the engine and as the car made it's way out of the street she snuck one last glimpse of what had been her home for seven years.

The trip was particularly quiet just the way she liked but it was going to be a long one, spending over 24 hours on the road was no easy feat having to constantly take bathroom breaks at gas stations along the way wasn't easy either and soon night came but she couldn't sleep she kept thinking about how much she missed her home but stirring out the window was a great distraction, the beautiful shiny lights that gimmered and ran by the car and the sound of rain drops hitting the car and the ground outside the car she soon found herself drifting off to sleep.
